I was at the Strokes concert he's talking about (Nashville River Stages in 2004) - has to be one of the drunkest performances I've ever seen. But still good! The stage was a barge anchored on the river downtown, and at one point during the set he and one of the other guys went to the back of the barge to relieve themselves. At another point he asked if anybody had a lighter and got pelted with them by the crowd.
agreed! It annoys me when bands completely disregard what we love about the source material altogether. I was hoping they'd include that fade-in for the main riff and they did. they get it
@@AndrewsArchives yeah most people just "dumb down" or simplify a song cause they don't want to deal with a certain level of difficulty. Find the top covers on youtube for 5 of your favorite songs and i'll bet 4 out of 5 will be slowed down so much it's barely recognizable.
Thank you for reposting this. I adore this cover so much. I watched the AV Club video SO many times years ago, and was heartbroken a few years back when I looked for it and it was gone. I feel like I have to be at least 1000 of the views here hahaha (okay, slight exaggeration). I'll forget about the video for a bit, and then I remember it and come back to watch it and it just fills me with such joy. I love it so much.
Wow these guys are so good , they are one to themselves, nobody has there original sound , they deserved the Edwin r murrow genius award, good for them
thank you SO much for posting all of these, they have never explained why they took down these videos and this has been my favorite covers ever to watch. seriously, I really appreciate it :)
Wow, first time hearing this and also discovering that Chris Thile plays mando/sings for them lol. My parents are huge Nickel Creek fans and that voice is absolutely unmistakable
Thank you keeping these. It's so sad that they all got taken down. I loved these covers back when they came out.
His impression of Julian’s MC work was hilarious

made it their own while capturing what makes the original so good. most covers seem to lose what makes the original good. well done
Its the tempo. 'Slowing down' this song would be a crime.

Still one of the best covers
Honestly these guys are a super team of talent. Punch Brothers have been kicking ass for a couple years now keep it up guys!
You just made my life complete again.
When you and the boys are supposed to be serenading the dead and dying in a civil war hospital, but first you want to play one from the new album.
Got to see these guys live...amazing

Twice as good as the original, and I love the original!
@@jimmytightlips I *totally* agree.
that fiddle (guitar) solo was incendiary!
Fiddle and banjo were actually playing that solo in unison

This keeps blowing my mind
Thank you for saving this
Thank you so much. I thought I'd never see this again. You are awesome.
Thank you, I'm very glad I stumbled upon this again
This is one of my favourite songs and Chris is one of my mothers favourite musicians.
This is a friggin godsend!
Absolutely freakin incredible holy shit
Thank you! This one and Andrew Jackson Jihad's cover from Plush are my favorites!
this is criminally under viewed
This is a great cover of a great song.
Great job! Regards from São Paulo! Brasil!
So good!
FINALLY, AFTER ALL THIS YEARS
The fact that Chris can sing like that with braces/retainer is all the more impressive
absolutely nailed the violin lick at 3:00 ! Class
I really like this style. It fits weirdly well! :D
This is it chief
...thank you
Fantastic ! Thanks ;)
Extraordinary
any possibility of Wang Chung doing Modest Mouse '3rd Planet' from the 2013 season.? it was so damn fun...doesnt seem to exist anymore anywhere
Seriously. That one is great.
Holy crap this was good.
Also i was at that show.
This is fucking beautiful
Thank you!!
YESSSSSS
That sucks that they took this down. Now, if I could just find the Ben Sollee cover of Henry Rollins "Low Self Opinion".
Is it just me or are Punch Brothers covers better than their original songs?
No, but yeah.
Not just you!
I love their original songs but their covers are definitely fantastic too.
Trying to find the one where Field Report did a cover of Chicago by Surjan Stevens. Can anyone help me?
GENIAL
hewre we go again
we are on the road again
Cool
INCREDIBLE COVER!!! I think this actually *ROCKS* more than the original...Why the "Strings" is my favourite music Family.
At least the singer knew not to touch the microphone and pretend to hold one instead. That things worth more than the band combined
it is amazing>?
I T S B A C K
are you ok who put their foot up your ass
sounds like someone just Bleu themselves
This is fantastic! And I don't even know the original song
: Julian Casablancas has joined the chat.
Chris just wanted to be one of the strokes
Please, try to find the cover of Trampled By turtles Owner of a lonely life...
Fiddle, y'all 💖
People who play fretless instruments are in a different league.
Vocalist Kinda looks like Finneas Oconnel.
Thought it was him in the thumbnail lol
I said this to my gf the other day. Hard to see a difference tbh. FINNEAS looks kinda over 30
I wanna get into like folk rock or whatever you would call this and cover shit this way.
If someone could re-up Justin Townes Earle's AV Undercover version of Atlantic City, I will wish you all the good karma in perpetuity.
Someone added it- search “Atlantic City av” and enjoy!!!
That solo sounds better on fiddle than it ever could on a guitar
He sings better in live that Julian Casablancas
Bill Hader
If I may dare say this, it's better than the original!
Very close to it, but definitely not better

@@lOvesucks003 Disagreed. Much better than the original.
Better than the original and I haven't even gotten half way through
4.3/10
someone mash this up with "worst reptilia cover"
Wow. This is terrible.
He got the lyrics mixed up
