  • In today's video, we will go over the Squale 1521 dive watch, their most iconic diver. This is the case that Charles Von Buren designed decades ago, and is the quintessential dive watch case. Your choice of dial colors and case finishes, they certainly deserve a spot in every collection.

      Michael, you describe my situation exactly … until I bought a Squale from Marc in 2021. All I can say is, “Go for it!” I no longer wear any of my Seiko dive watches. The Squale divers punch so far above their cost.

    Bought my 1521 matte blue dial w/ blasted case from LIW a little less than a year ago... it remains the favorite watch in my collection, and I love wearing it as often as I can. Perfect fit and comfort on my 7.5" wrists, and I still stare at it way too long when it's on my arm. Only minor complaint is that while I like the tucked away 4-o'clock crown, it is a little tough to pull out when setting date/time. But it's worth it for the look and beautiful assymetric case design. Love the Squales, Marc! Hope the blue Matic becomes available again at some point!

    Really like your videos. The new camera is an improvement, and especially shifting the background from the awful white to wood (or anything else). But all of these are just improvement upon the main theme which has always been good: Your good natured explanations have always been interesting and great. That is why we are coming back. Keep being you!

    Really enjoyed the video. It’s nice to see some of the other brands sprinkled in with the Islanders. Also, really liked the cedar background. Cedar has a natural embossed look with grain and texture and with it’s rich color it compliments the watches well and does not reflect allowing the watches to stand on there own. It also allowed the camera to focus better and color saturation was better. Best regards.

    I firmly believe that leather straps are more water tolerant than people realize. In fact I'm testing that with one of my straps by wetting and drying once a day long term to see how many cycles it takes for it to fall apart because I want to have proof.

  • @ryanthomas9306
    @ryanthomas9306 Před 2 lety

    Hi Marc, the blue with silver bezel is my choice
    For video, you need indirect defused light. I have a white wall, so it makes things easier, but I use a soft box to shine light downward at a 45 degree angle. It disperses the light in a more balanced way. When you watch teddy b’s b-roll, that’s what gives the watches the 3d look.
    From years of getting into video, lighting is your most important friend.

  • @thenexthobby
    @thenexthobby Před 2 lety

    Any day there's a 1521 video is a good day. That pink model is amazing. Not my color scheme at all but ya gotta acknowledge great design execution.
    Re: the setup. So if it was not an issue before it could just be that the new cam is uncovering issues elsewhere in the system. You can easily engineer out the weakest link: Your lights.
    The only way the camera is involved here is if you've chosen a setting that's increasing contrast compared to the old one, which will impact exposure of SOME areas, making shadows and highlights both exaggerated. (Although I didn't really see an issue with shadows here.) When I last commented on this I might have implied it was an exposure problem. It's really not.
    The fix: Some of it might be glare (angles) but most of it is harsh light. Try some parchment paper or other diffuser (a white kitchen trash bag might also work) over your light and view the result. If everything is too dark ignore that for the moment. You're looking to verify if the light's now softer, more even. Amplitude or exposure is easier to adjust.
    You can do the above experiment without recording any video. Just put a plastic box or anything a little reflective on that table and look at it while you play with the diffuser or light distance or light strength from a couple feet away.
    There are many videos on photog channels here that demonstrate this effect, using a soft box. I used to think large (diameter) lights meant lots of light but there's no relation. It has to do with harsh vs soft light.
    Re-watch the beginning for another example ... the top of your forehead has harsh light, making it appear overexposed. That's more a lighting issue, less so a camera one.
    I hope you know my comments well enough by now that my goal is feedback, not criticism.
