Man, I found this song in 2013, everytime I hear it now I am transported back to that time, it's scary how fast time moves
Riight
Awesome how J. Cole, Oddisee and Consequence have all sampled the same song, and all made masterpieces with the sample.
***** Damn I hadn't heard that song for 5 years.
what was that song that he used of the sample Consequence
RapShort4me disperse
WBiP ok thanks
***** Sideline Story
I've been listening to this song since 2013. Periodically, i come back experiencing it. You've written an immortal piece man. Never forget it. Peace, from Italy.
³
Same here, although I discovered it back in 2014. Still come back to watch and listen to this masterpiece.
Still listening in 2023…timeless 👌
The pure poetry and talent this man paints with his lyrics, is just inspiring. Everytime I hear this track it makes me think...
"With the attitude of wealth and the gratitude of the poor"
Just the right mindset for a balanced and healthy life
Thats the best way to live
Right on brother all the best
"Underdog mentality with champion composure"
exactly what jumped out at me!
Real MCs will always be appreciated.
Trill Gates Always
best hip hop song of the decade underrated af
Odd is wise beyond his years. Timeless poetry indeed.
that "93 till infinity" line !! dope shit.
heard it as I read your comment
I support artists like this because he has passion for his music.
who woudn't ?
fools who enjoy dumb down music like chief keef, YG, etc.
john jackson i used to listen to them now i cant understand what the fuck keef says half the time he mumbles
I see you listen to STEEZ because your profile pic
john jackson chief is not dumb, i love chief keef's music, don't get me wrong, i also love oddisees music so much, it gives me so manny chill vibes!
peace!!
"I never asked to be born."
"My thoughts like meals, I'm a sucker for the seconds."
"This a new beginning, I'm climbing out of the other one."
"How you grade yourself is the mark that matters most"
y'all complain that he is not as known as Iggy azealia and so on, but in my opinion, the fact that he has not gone there is more authentic and cool. it's like he perceives his music as art and not business, which is laudable
Awesome point. This is why I love underground artists. They are usually very genuine and very talented. You make an amazing point.
Thank you! Real hip hop is underground, people! Support your local artists!
+Josune Nieves bottled up thoughts by linoskiii check it out
Well said man big up !!
I may not be local to y'all, but can I get some support?
I had never heard of Oddisee before, I randomly stumbled upon this 5 minutes ago... but I've heard enough for me to go and buy this album, how is this not playing everywhere?!
thats what i'm saying!
keepitmoving Lol everybody with half a brain knows they aren't going to find quality music on the radio. The radio doesn't play anybody from TDE but that doesn't mean they aren't taking over the genre. I consider myself as someone who knows a lot about hip hop, and ive never even heard of BET. Basically the only reason Pato hasn't heard of this guy is because he's not famous yet, and its not at all because of sony and universal studios.
I ask that question a lot myself, Oddisee should be more known.
Pato Galindo because there's crap like Lil Wayne and Wakka clogging up the airwaves
Pato Galindo Because Clear Channel.
Original sample by The Rhythm - The World Is A Place. Also sampled by Marcelo d2 -1967 and J cole - Sideline Story
Thanks for this! 👌
Verdade.
it was also sampled by Cru - Just Another Case, who oddisee references in the song.
Chino XL- Be Here also used this sample
And of course the really good Disperse by Consequence.

I'm pissed off at myself for discovering this so late...better late than never, though...
same here. I stopped paying as much attention to new hip-hop because I am always let down. This dude is super talented

@@discoprotection As a teen I was obsessed with finding new music. I would go to thrift stores, Hastings, and FYE to buy CDs, spend hours listening to music here on CZcams, on my cd player or ipod, SoundCloud, and Bandcamp, and downloading music off Bandcamp and SoundCloud and deleting music on my ipod to make room for new stuff I had a Nano I would load up with new music and a 128gb ipod I would keep the best stuff on and have playlists on. Now that I'm older I just don't make time for it anymore and I find myself listening to playlists I've made on SoundCloud and old CDs in my car. Idk it sucks too because some places make it harder to find the new stuff here on CZcams it's almost impossible to find new stuff since CZcams likes to only loop popular vids at you, SoundCloud likes to just play the most popular stuff unless you mess with it by listening to smaller artists, Bandcamp the GOAT at showing new stuff but the site is trash at actually playing tracks since it takes forever to load. My taste also moved away from hip hop since now that I'm in my mid 20s I feel so depressed and hip hop makes me feel so good and idk sometimes I wanna stew in it or go back to old music for comfort but idk maybe I should get back into music since it makes me happy maybe get an ipod again just for music.
The Windy City is looking good! Oddisee needs to have another show in Chicago!
Thank you dead end HipHop for opening me up to this guy. Damn this shit is dope afffff
+Braeden Hysuick there's no dead end hip hop when Oddisee is in the game Bro!
+Only Nun On The Internet unless you are being sarcastic, Braeden is referring to the youtube channel DeadEndHipHop which is a group of 4 guys who sit down and review albums, and Braeden is thankful they reviewed one of Oddisee's albums because thats how he learned of him
+wasa naa Bro I wasn't being sarcastic, my bad.
Oh cool, I'll check these DeadEndHipHop guys out
+Braeden Hysuick you probably mean dead end mainstream Hip Hop. Underground has always brought this kind up, but this obviously top class!
+wayne shamba Do you mind checking out my music?
Been pumping every era of hip hop for 14 years now, am 28 in January and this song is absolutely classic 10 years later, one of the most utterly timeless tracks.
still in my playlist after all these years. Classic.
I appreciate what Oddisee is doing for hip hop music. Much love from South Africa.
more love from South Africa
Even more love to South Africa.
Respek from SA
Shout out from Los Angeles.
Mzansi YEaaaaah!!!
song deserves atleast 500 k. mainstream can't understand real raw hip hop like this.
thats the beauty of it, this way it keeps the charm of a treasure u have to discover.
hanspenis3000 I know but think if mainstream music was like this. The world would be a better place
Judda Kooda the world would be a better place if people were greedy and had better morals.
well that was rude... :(
TheJuggernauter love you guys
I'm back as usual, yearly for 9. That last verse is ridiculous, etched in my brain.
"Everything you want ain't always good for your soul"
What rap is meant to sound like. Keeping hip hop alive. Thank you.
🙏
Man this shit is so refreshing.
I wish America would give young hip-hop artists like this and Clear Soul Forces, more media coverage. Then the tastes of our young African people would be influenced by something more positive and progressive. I'm encouraged that this kind of music is still being made. Shout out, straight from Jozi, South Africa!!!
Real music exist its just the lack of intake on the masses
Not only in Amercia, worldwide.
People think J. Cole is the only artist making honest rap shit makes me so mad, I be naming the exact artists you just did but since they aren't on the radio or tv people just shrug.
Napo Tsubane
real talk fam no jk
colonization was good idiot, it brought better technology to africa, the africans didnt really know how to utilize it afterwards, capitalism is a good economic policy, it got germany out of the great depression in the 30s
I can’t explain how this song moves me. Every time I play it. It’s deep, poetic and prophetic. I’ll just keep playing it.
Masterpiece.
This song is incredible, one of my favourite hip-hop tracks of all time. Hands down.
2013 was a good year for underground hiphop
I agree.
all of the good underground rappers haven't put out shit this year, i'm hoping 2017 is a good year.
room Maybe there giving space for the "new school".
Cory Craver Do you?
Cory Craver IKR
Still one of the best hiphop songs ever made, the life-lessons you share won't be understood if you didn't lived life through these experiences that give these lessons. Beautyfull depth.
6 years later and I still gravitate towards this tune. 🔥
I might be too young to ever really know tupac, biggie, nas, or any other rappers from back then, but man I'm happy to have rappers like this guys that can give a good taste of those days, I can still lisen to music that aint trash.
Tupac, Biggie, and Nas took Hip Hop in a certain direction...Oddi brings it back to the roots. Props from home homie. DMV reps
More of a Rakim than those you mentioned
One of my favorite MCs at the moment. Digging the positive vibes and the Biggie sample.
I'm 38 and this is the Chicago sound I grew up with not that Drill shit! Blessings to this real MC, notice I said MC not rapper!
Whats the names other artists with this sound from Chicago, por favor?

Hell yeah man I feel you
I cant believe people in the US are listening to Trap when you literally have talent like this launching classics.
Much love from the UK 🔥
Damn shame.
Now you know how a lot of people feel in the US
Trap is the new generations music. This is more of the beats of millennial
Lunch gen x , homie
There's lots of good trap, too. Don't generalise an entire genre, lol. //
Oddisee is one of the greatest talents in music. Nothing but respect for who he is and what he represents as an artist.
the real hip-hop classic
That jacket is mad nice
dude, this cat is dope, his beat is dope, his lyrics are flowing n you focusing on his jacket?!?! c'mon son
Tony Clifton It ain't like that brother. I've been listening to Oddisee for a long time and I must have played this song a thousand times. I just never saw the video, so when I did I noticed that he had a dope jacket on. Nothing wrong with that.
I was thinking the same thing, hahaha. I want it.
AjaxNoord i spent an hour trying to find it aahaha

Eu andava pelas ruas vestindo o meu bate bola
Kool and the Gang, Gap Band
Outro mestre, James Brown
Carlos Peixe, meu camarada
Calote no ônibus pra ir à praia no verão
Sempre no Maraca vendo o Mengão jogar
Meu avô Peixoto deixou meu sangue rubro-negro
Campo Grande, Norte Shopping, Street no Méier
À noite Circo Voador, show do De Falla e um Domec
Vender Camisa na 13 de Maio
Na situação show no Garage
Skunk, diversão de irmão
Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaata, Planet Rock
Rap, break, graffiti
Chegou o hip hop
Eu vim pra zoar, fazer barulho
Falar um pouco de mulher
Skate, som, bagulho
Sempre ligado, sempre sabendo o que quer
Sempre bom da cabeça, nunca doente do pé
Eu vou levando a vida

This song is undervalued, and the artist underrated. Good sh*t.
I remember hearing this song 10 years ago when I met Oddisee searching for hip hop on YT, from that moment I knew I had found a great musician, two years later he released The Good Fight and it became my favorite album.

dudes a knowledge prophet
1. Oddisee does not want to be Mainstream. It calms the fire you once had for Hip Hop in the first place.
2. He loves where he's at, he doesn't complain.
3. The fans of the Underground will never go away. They will never "Change The Song" if you will. On ANY dope rappers.
Instead, our fanbase grows stronger each and everyday.

Same bro love yall
Hey I wish I could reach you out from somewhere and could say how much this song means to me. I was big on backpack rap years ago, but this new wave got me at the end of it as well. I remember listening to this song when I was younger and my English wasn't this advanced to understand what you're trying to say and what your message is but I was headbopping still. Sometimes I'm lost inside of my head and need a voice to say to me "Yo you got this", and for a while this one is my go to because how authentic and real and well structured it is. This song touched me, and I just wanted to say, thank you Oddisee. You a real MC
that's dope I hope he can see this one day

first time hearing this. flow is flawless. this is real hip hop. big respect to Oddisee. super dope

This song is deep
One of the best songs of all time
Definitely that nice 90's hip hop vibe.
Does anyone else hear the flying lotus/ Nujabes type influence in his production? I love it its a softer style of hip hop that is very condusive to alternative rappers like substantial. Mad props to Odisee for killing it as a producer and a rapper.
Awesome sauce
"With the attitude of wealth and the gratitude of the poor"
I wish that gratitude is what me, and my wheelchair bound brother, saw when we waited (in the cold) behind the Knitt at Treefort to thank Amir (Oddisee), and his band, for such an incredible show, as well as express just how much his music has helped guide me through a lot of really trying times, particularly when our mom unexpectedly passed away..
Unfortunately, what we saw was the attitude of wealth... no signatures, no pictures, no words...
his bandmates seemed very appreciative, but Amir basically just strolled off to the hotel, and the band followed.
I never even bothered trying to talk to him the way I watched him essentially ignore a girl that was also fan that was trying to talk with him.
I play music, I've played sets, I know it's more often than not, long, hard, and tedious work to give an astounding set.. but he just walked on by totally unphased.
I wasn't necessarily insulted, or anything like that, I was just really disappointed... disappointed that he was nothing like how his music made me think he would be in person.
I still enjoy his music, Afterthoughts will always be particularly sentimental to me. I suppose I just hear his non instrumental stuff differently now.. this isn't any kind of dig, it just is what it is..
-
(for comparison, after Dave Chappelle's stand up set, while his motorcade was ready to roll out behind the Morrison, and his security already gave us a firm "No" to a quick thank you, Dave walked right out some 50 feet to my brother and I in the parking lot to talk to us, actually thanked us, and took a picture... that's the guy that turned down 50,000,000$ showing some genuine gratitude to the people he realizes he gets to inspire, as well as make laugh, & think. No one gets a second chance at a first impression.)
Years of listening to this song and just realized you recorded in my beautiful city Chicago and on the corner in broadway and Lawrence ave , uptown baby. Years later I still

This is gold man, this is pure gold
Always proud to see a brother making it happen, love and respect from a fellow Sudani
That 2nd verse is full of goosebumps.
And the third verse is more dangerous than a radioactive chemicals.
This track has always been so dope
I've never heard a producer speak exactly how I feel about what I make in the same way he does. Really makes me respect Oddisee a whole lot more.
