Yes the overall design was at its peak here, especially sound. The upgraded hardware here allowed Dan Forden to use compressed versions of a CD-quality soundtrack with spectacular results. The voices were simultaneously scary and hilarious, striking the perfect balance of dark, serious violence and silliness- my favorites being the over-the-top “Oooooohhh!”s and Liu Kang’s cartoony Bruce Lee parody.😂 MK2 introduced the iconic Fatality moan to the soundtrack, which was sadly missing from the otherwise spectacular SNES port.

mk2 is best fighting game ever made imo, just has that mysterious dark atmosphere never again duplicated quite the same. the limited info pre-internet added to the mystique. The only things i'd change is remove the friendships and babalities and added 1 more fatality per character and another stage fatality, probably. And (in retrospect) balanced the game pvp-wise so it remained as popular and relevant for tournaments for years and decades after it was released. the balance is laughable as Liu Kang, Jax and Mileena are tiers above the rest of the fighters.
I want to go back to these times....

The bonecrunching bass will always stand out. Could hear this game from outside the arcade & when you stepped in there, a buncha kids were gathered around it having fun. Good memories
IMO, Jax's projectile attack was one of thee loudest sound effects for the game. That and the howling, LIVING FOREST stage.. 🤝
I remember lines formed around the corner with people waiting to play MK2. MK 2 still holds up and paved the way for the introduction to blood and gore in video games. Moreover, the infamous ESRB rating system was enacted by Congress to regulate what children were exposed to for the fear that games such as MK 2 were too violent for children to view. It was a fallacy!

@@marknewton3765 - I didn't get to play the arcade very often as it was always packed & we lived out of town, but just watching people play I think helped me to pick it up quick once I did play & then once I got the SNES version, I was in MK heaven. The one thing I really missed with the early home versions was Dan Forden's awesome music

MK3 is where the laziness of design started to show.
Thank you for uploading this in its correct aspect ratio. A lot of people upload classic MK videos stretched to fill the screen and it's not made to look like that. It looks much better in it's original form. Great quality.

Go with the arcade kollection on the newer consoles.. On old consoles I think the Saturn version is as close as it got, but the sound took a hit..
There are lots of ways to get the Arcade MK2 on modern console now.
i have the arcade collection on my ps3 and i still play it.😂i even have an arcade cabinet. 💪

Nossa você é um monstro mesmo. Pra vencer essa IA trapaceira desse jogo é foda. Em 12:04 você claramente acertou o upercut e ainda assim o jogo não registrou e te deu uma logo depois.
The was such an amazing leap from MK 1 when I was a kid. Was the greatest sequel cast backgrounds move sets fatalities. Incredible game in arcade!
Loved it when they did the tournament list in Mortal Mountain with Kahn at the top. The console versions were cut down quite a lot because of the limitations even in MK3. Some of the level designs were trimmed back like the portal level it didnt move at all and the flying hooded men didnt move either

This game had been talked about for its violence at the time, fortunately it had not been banned.
I remember at some arcades the blood was turned off. Then no one played. I cannot think of anything more idiotic than turning the blood off for this game, I guess they don't like getting paid.
@@lancepage1914I forgot you CAN turn off the blood in the arcade. But, yeah, taking that away ruins the game altogether.

My fave MK 2. Here’s to the great times in the random delis around town, Even when outta quarters you’re watching with a bunch of other kids. “Let’s go to that deli or video store I think they have a street fighter 2 machine” etc. and just loiter with our bikes and have fun. Ah good stuff. 👍🏻

I’ve played this video game nearly 30 years ago as a young adult because this game was then very popular back then because there were several new fighters plus a couple of new fatalities involved because I’ve played against the computer and human players and won some & lost some .

Many versions of MK, but I find this the best.

Still a great looking game, MK2 is my favourite MK! Back then, I was amazed how good the SNES port was, on difficulty medium upwards it even had the arcade's AI. The CD ports were rather dissapointing, even the 32X version was less accurate with graphics, music and feeling.

First time to see the Arcade version and having played only the Megadrive version, I am actually shocked how close the console port is.

sega and megadrive is NOT even comparable to the arcade version at all. I loved the sega version for years until I really put the arcade and console ports next to each other. The 32X version is the best for the sega era and the SNES is probably the closet to the arcade version.

Is there anybody reading these comments on here because Jax Says , I Gotcha' followed by back breaking & a gotcha throat grab & multiple punches to the face because I used to watch other players perform this combination attack was playing as Jax which is very cool to see but you would have to be quick about it here .

This port had the best graphics.
Could hardly call this a port because the arcade is the first and original format, and it's always the best. That's why when they were brand new they cost as much as a brand new car.

Lol the A.I was always BS in this game because the game reads your inputs. Then the arcade owners would crank up the difficulty to make you pump in more coins too which made it a chore. The main way to win without getting good as we see here is A.I manipulation where it responds to an input that leads into a trap but it gets repetitive.
You ran the gauntlet... i didn't see you lose a single match and you only lost against Shao Kahn, I gotta try this one-go playthrough on the SNES version

Watching the new mk1 it’s cool and all but it doesn’t give out that nightmarish vibe these old games use to. The evil laughs, the crowd noises, hell even the round 1 fight! It just became a regular ass game will better graphics lol
