Thanks !

This is such an underrated movie. Truly one of a kind. RIP Shep, the guy who literally sacrificed his life so his girlfriend's band could have creative freedom.
Shep forever, man
Shep sounds like the final boss of all cucks.
How is it underrated, what are you talking about? Who have rated this lower than it should be rated?
His name was already saying, the 'sheep' of sacrifice for a greater good.
Shep was a fanboy and Stella was probably his celebrity crush (In my opinion)
This movie told a story with nothing but music.
That’s the genius of it.
and pictures
Techno opera
Yeah men 😊
And an animation team of probably 100+ people..
By forgoing dialogue yet capturing the most intense emotions, this has to be one of the most impressive films I’ve ever seen.
There is dialogue. Just not the kind you're used to.
masterpiece
Yes I watch this every New Years Day. It fuggin resonates. RIP Daft Punk
Same you seeing my pfp and be like "yo its a gacha kid" im not because thats my little sister who made this for me anyways daft punk hits hard and i have all of there songs in my playlist so yuh
I don’t know if it’s nostalgia from crying as a teen, but I can’t watch something about us without crying. I’ve seen it so many times but it absolutely conducts my soul to tears
Same
I'm with you😢. I just started tearing up watching One More Time
Yeah. I didn't watch this as a kid but it gives a very sad and nostalgic feeling.
Same just finished watching this and I cannot lie when I said I flooded my room with tears at the end 😅
I watched Interestella 5555 as a kid but I didn't remember much. I have just finished watching it maybe 10 years later and I am in love with the film. Something About Us has always been my favourite song and I really believe it will always be. Now I also have a favourite movie (I never knew what to respond when people asked me which was my favourite). I love Daft Punk more and more and their separation is now like the death of Shep - it's the saddest event, but at least we have a star to look at (Daft Punk), and their music will always be with us, and we'll just keep playing back these fragments of time.
Love to every soul!!!
Aerodynamic is one of the best instrumentals ever, fight me
Bah.
I would have, 15 years ago, when i first got the Album on CD (imagine that).
It was my least favorite on Discovery.
Today i completely agree with you.
I think they were slightly ahead of their time, with this one, and a few others.
Aerodynamite is the bomb.
The Guitar part in Aerodynamic goes hard.
@@yuseeme90 It does.
Happy 20th Anniversary Interstella 5555!
Im 32 and this is the first time I watched the full movie. Not gonna lie Im feeling emotional right now. Also theres something about the artstyle that I really like. I cant even say what exactly it is.
34 where and the same
@@andrefncduarte 34 turning 35 this year and this is my first time watching this too...Just amazing
that's the nostalgic artstyle
true, maybe something to do with the old 'cell animation' way of making them. It makes it feel more.....organic, real......idk
Late 90's and early 2000's Toei animation was on another level
This movie was literally my childhood. I cried when I watched it again.
Wait it's an actual movie and daft punk just put music over it???
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wait, you are an alien ?
Omg, you lied that time, but now you say the truth !
@@NynnaOnYT No, its a movie made for the music. All the music videos from the album, put together create this movie
Less a movie more a spiritual experience, love this joint!
Whewwwww! So much truth in this! I’m catching things I never noticed before! They have been awake for awhile!
Just watched it toasted for the first time, and i can confirm.
speeking of joint I'm high and it slaps
So basically this man was taking the alien’s memories, turning them into discs and disguises the aliens as human while he mind controls them to do his “dirty work” so he could win the Gold Rewards to do a ritual to become a “god”. Wow, that is actually some interesting lore there.
And all because he was bitter and hurt too! I never realized that he was the little boy in the flashback they showed when they read through the book during Veridis Quo. It looked like a meteor (3 actually) killed his parents and he was super attached to his father. Now it makes sense he was abducting aliens. He probably blamed them along with everything out in space for his parents’ deaths.
It’s an allegory
Music industry
I’d don’t think I’ve been so captivated by the lore of a fictional band since my Gorillaz phase.
Daft Punk will always be one of the greatest
Para siempre
It'd be so crazy if daft punk did one last performance at the next Superbowl. Just imagine they keep it a secret until the halftime show and when they appear then play One more time. Man I could only wish. It'd be so perfect.
That would be awesome
Greatest concert of all time right there if they do it
I don’t think there has been a house artist to do the Super Bowl. And that would be so awesome
That’s been my prediction since they broke up. What I think is that Pharrell is going to release a new album and get a Super Bowl performance out of it. During his performance Daft Punk comes out and performed with him and then turns the last 5-8 minutes of halftime into their own daft punk house set. It won’t be next year but I see it in our future
If any house artist was to ever perform at the Super Bowl it would be daft punk
bruh, it gave me chills :´(
Rip blue dude
True legend of the cause
After all these years and multiple watches I just realized Shep (blue dude) saved them twice
You can sure tell this is Leiji Matsumoto's work! The character designs are unmistakable and highly reminiscent of classic animes like "Captain Harlock" and "Galaxy Express 999."
Well, he always draws the same girl as main character or main female character.
His inspiration for the female characters he drew is Marianne Hold.
Star Blazers/Space Cruiser Yamato.
No wonder the Gamalons were pissed off. We stole their music!
YESSS THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THEN VIEWING IT WITH STUPID ADS
I know Daft Punk is arguably the greatest EDM band of all time but they are still underrated.
How are they underrated? Who have rated them lower than they should be?
@jmw8403 Google literally has Swedish House Mafia and The Chainsmokers rated higher than them.
Make it make sense
@@ChaseDizzie the chainsmokers?…. What halfwit made that list? They need to take some reeducation courses on EDM and house artist😂
Daft Punk is not EDM , so swedish house mafia can have it. i can only associate the term EDM with boring all registers open in a tune and then a drop and then the next. Calvin Harris, David Guetta sort of thing. Daft Punk came from the french filterhouse scene . Motorbass, Alex Gopher , Etienne De crecy , Cassius . Check those out instead.
@@izaakimagery1978 I second that statement
OMG NO WAY!! I been waiting for a long time for someone to upload the High quality one
Your the first comment on this video
Your pfp say a lot. You are a big fan ! Love it
i can't help but cry over this movie. Not just because of the nostalgia i get when rewatching it, but also feeling emotional over Shep. I love this movie as much as I love Discovery.
Shep died way too early 😢
I remember my dad showed me the Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger portion of this movie when I was a kid. We had no concept of this movie or what was going on in the plot, but I was instantly in love. That song has stayed my favorite Daft Punk song to this day.
Maybe a year later, my dad discovered a video with the One More Time scene and showed it to me as well. That was when I started to realize that there was an actual story being told here, not just funny aliens singing and getting turned into humans. I went searching on my own and was able to track down the individual videos that made up this whole movie. And I love it to death. The process of finding Interstella 5555 is just as nostalgic for me as the movie itself. It's all just so good. I'll never stop loving it.
Sounds like a magical experience. Powerful weapon nostalgia.
It was pure magic ✨ that night 🌉 on Toonami
never forget it. RIP Romanthany.
This song still brings me back to that magical night.

Wow you just made me tear up because I saw this on Toonami many years ago and I didn't think anyone else would remember it. All the best to you!
I didnt saw this in toonami tho. Way back 2011 i was watching this ms on youtube and had the whole movie downloaded in like 2012/2013 on ps4 by my brother. I didnt know it was a movie with sequence. Brings back memories watching this now. Forever remains in my heart ❤
I had no idea they had a whole movie 😭
Neither did we, back when they were showing 1-2 videos of it at a time on Toonami.
Then one magical night they streamed the thing in its entirety. I took a large combo dose of MDA and 2-CB that night, we taped it - and watched it again when it finished.
They've got two 👁👁
There's also Electroma

Just in case anyone is wondering what Matsumoto San is saying:
Fragment 1
"A musician is like a magician - this is my favorite saying, you know."
He plays with the similarity of the words 'musician' and 'magician' when pronounced with a Japanese accent.
Fragment 2
"To the dream, that is, aspiration, that I always yearned for from when I was a child, err..."
Fragment 3
The dream, rather than...from like...it comes closer like this..."
Fragment 4
Err...how shall I put it?...in my head, various, err...lights flash on and off, you know."
Thank you for sharing this! I was wondering what he was saying! They made a masterpiece together and we’ll be forever grateful because of this!
@@MasqueradeDiva You are welcome! And I agree, an hour and a few minutes is nothing compared to everything you get from these classics.
Watching this with my 6 year old daughter for the second time in the last 24hours.
The art in this is soo good the colours the fashion it perfectly depicts the retro futurist vibe that Daft Punks music had I also love how it perfectly shows the peronality of all the characters. Also the bagkgrounds in the aliene world are realy beautiful.
It's such a shame that Daft Punk only kept these characters for one album because I would love to see them in there other mv also sad that they aren't a band anymore because I would love a TV show of these guys.
Also I love little details like how shep's ship is shaped like a guitar that is soo creative and cool
God damn this is amazing. The moment they make their re-appearance in “Too Long” is so anime and over the top but also gives me the chills and makes me want to be their biggest fan lol. Such a cool concept, such great music, such great animation.
Also, did anyone find the fact that the soccer match is Japan vs. France amusing? Definitely an intentional nod to the collaboration between them
Yes, that soccer match had me cracking up! There’s so much detail in this film, I love it!
I too enjoyed that detail@@MasqueradeDiva
I always thought to myself that wow so cool that a movie studio lets Daft Punk use their footage.. but I was wrong this whole time..
I had no clue that this movie is actually in collaboration with Daft Punk and not the other way around
Back in the day I could never watch the full thing because we never knew when MTV would air it. Life was tough without the internet lol
2001 - Daft Punk's album _Discovery,_ the one we just heard, is released
2003 - Interstella 5555 is released to accompany _Discovery_
20 years later
2021 - Daft Punk allows the sun to set on their beautiful career
2023 - They aren't returning. There won't be _One More Time._ As with many phenomenons, a sequel or reboot would take away from the magic of the original
And yet somehow, I can see Netflix attempting a live action 8 part series based on this film.
This is why Discovery is my favorite album. This movie encapsulates a lot of indescribable emotions in me. A feeling of nostalgia, high and raw emotion, mystery and reality, depression and romanticism, fake and human. Probably more. It's not a world that necessarily makes realistic sense, but it comes from an era just before the world became so reliant on pessimistic, "realistic" views. Fantasy and sci-fi stories could no longer be presented without some kind of "explanation" for why it works. (Notice this with the MCU. Super Heroes have to have some made up scientific explanation for their powers, etc.) Why is this alien planet just like the Earth with human instruments except blue people? Why does a ancient sorcerer kidnap aliens in particular for their musical talent? Why does he need the talent in the first place if all he wants is the golden discs that he could just as easily steal like he steal aliens?
Doesn't matter. It's a story of real human emotions, set to music that makes you *feel* those emotions too. Beautiful animation, touching music from lots of spectrums like dance, fun, sadness, heroism, tragedy, mystery and intrigue.
I'm overstaying my welcome, but you get the point. This movie takes me back to a different time and place, experience emotions I haven't felt since I was a kid. That kind of thing.
Interesting observation about the need to explain things in modern sci-fi stories.
I found myself thinking "realistically" out of habit when re-watching this, yet the movie is so well done that the lack of explanation does not detract from the experience.
What a beautiful comment
That's so Dumb what you just said 🆗🆗🆗🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦😒😒

Had no idea all these videos were part of one movie. I am blown away lol
Just bought a copy of this movie on DVD from Discogs! Glad to finally have it in my collection, as it's kind of a rare find due to it being out of print.
This movie holds a special place in my heart ❤ A legendary piece of music and animation history that often gets overlooked. Directed by a manga and animation legend in Japan, Leiji Matsumoto. The animation in this movie is stunning and the story melds prefectly with the Discovery album. The fact that they got me to cry over Shep's death without any dialogue is storytelling at its finest.
Congratulations 👍
I'd like this one too for sure 😃
The movie has very good quality, thanks for uploading it. I have the original DVD with the interactive game and other extra stuff like character sketches, animation and karaoke. Thanks to you I can watch the movie and at the same time take care of the material I have, avoiding its damage. Sorry my English is not so good.... Greetings from Argentina!
There's a game for this movie!?
@user-saraswatidevi its just a dvd game. look it up on youtube. Dvd menu games
I'm trying to imagine what it would be like to see this film in an IMAX theater❤❤🎉🎉
fun fact: arpegius from superheroes to the beginning of too long was like awake for 100+ hours straight, considering he would not fall asleep while Shep was dying, drove everywhere, did not fall asleep while paying respects, had to drive to the manor, go into it for like 3 hours, drive back to the city, have people help him get back, and get into the ship, so if he slept at all it was while paying respects to Shep.
Can't tell if this is a joke but this didn't happen over a few days lol. It probably took them weeks to figure out how to send them back and fix the ship much less Shep and the others making plans, finding hideouts etc. They're obviously not gonna show every single thing that happened.
This was a sick watch. Something about us & Verdis Quo are godlike w the visuals 😮💨
Got this on disc for Christmas 2021. Those were the good times. Just when I had discovered Berserk and Daft Punk.
Both Berserk and Daft Punk are GOATED
@@sebastianc2077 My man of culture.
Man of culture. We are here to celebrate Daft Punk and Berserk 🍻🥂🍾🎉
I was a little child during the early 2000s, and didn't have much of an interest in this kind of stuff back in the day. Watching this now, I must say this was the best musically and emotionally animated film of all time.
A film only explained through music is basically just a poem that shows, but doesn't tell. This was an interesting concept
Great video! For obvious reasons I get a real "Captain Harlock" and "Galaxy Express 999" vibe from this. Which is not surprising as Toei Animation produced them.
The director is actually the guy who made Captain Harlock (forgot his name), he sadly passed away recently.
@@UltraFicus Matsumoto San. The guy in the intro.
Toei Also Made Transformers: The Movie
My first ever album and still one of my favourite of all time. Randomly in the UK around the time dvd’s became a thing we used to have a local guy knock on our doors and ask if we wanted to buy pirate films, my sister who studying in Paris saw this on the list and bought it. I’d kinda just scratched the surface of anime and I liked the design. As soon as I saved enough I went to HMV and bought the actual movie. Still own it now!
My little 9yo girl just finish the movie. She enjoyed it too much.
The best movie I ever seen. I love you, Daft Punk.
The only way to listen to Discovery properly.
20 years late but this masterpiece brought me to TEARS. I recently started to listen to Daft Punk albums and I suddenly remebered this had a film attached to it. When the movie ended and cut to credits I found myself crying because this masterpiece was the perfect attachment to the album. I really reccomend telling people who love the Discovery album to watch the film (if they haven't) because this had way more emotions and thought put into it than other movies I've seen recently! Anways, sorry for my ramble and I hope this movie will live on for it's great storytelling and cinematography!
DAFT PUNK FOREVER ❤
P.S
1:02:28 I'd like to buy everything in this kid's room 😅
It’s such a good film and the album is amazing! Also, yes, I need everything in that kid’s room!
Ima cry😭 I never knew it was a full film
Cartoon Network never told us it was a full film, either. They'd stream maybe 1-2 videos at the time kinda randomly.
Then one night they played the whole thing. I had friends messaging me on AOL Instant Messenger telling me to turn it on.
BARYL IS SO ADORABLE! He's The Best Character Is Interstella 5555
Of all the musical movies that try to tell a story, this one is by far the best. At least, it makes sense and as a logic. It's not like Moonwalker, The Yellow Submarine or even Fantasia. Those movies have some merits if taken piece by piece, but as a whole, they are a mess. Thanks to all the team behind this piece of work. You did a great job!
Ah man I lost my DVD of this. So glad to see it here
Who wants to bet they somehow turn this into a Netflix eight part series in the next 10 years?
One of the best albums ever, especially because of this movie!
What a film! What a soundtrack!
Thanks for posting mate.
The first and last time I watched the complete film was in the middle of the night at Lowlands Festival in 2003. Pure magic.
Thanks for putting it on youtube so I can relive those memories.
This entire movie played on Toonami a very long time ago and got me to buy the album Discovery at a young age, been a fan since.
A true masterpiece. Absolutely beautiful and transcendent
Greatest album of all time.
whats your favorite anime? "daft punk" what? "daft punk"
I would watch this every Friday on toonami aftermath, that was 8 years ago. And it still showing..
I feel like we should have more anime like this one the music is spot on at every scene and you can understand the plot so well. The aniamtion is so well drawn and there isn’t much gap between the changes of flashbacks and current timelines I would really like it if this got a sequal somehow.
Vaya sueño tan asombroso que tuvo el chico. Con primado negativo y simbología en cada una de las escenas y canciones. Simplemente increíble...
A masterpiece in art. Period.
Thank you, for taking me back to my 20's, I have this mix of nostalgia, memories and gladly I realize that this musical and spiritual experience never gets old, it always sounds perfect
I saw this long time ago, but this is the first time I see the full movie, a masterpiece in anime
Any other true 90s kids remember first seeing and hearing this "One more time" on Cartoon Network back in the day?
Woke up on christmas to watch this before everyone else got up. Great way to start christmas IMO

Voyager and Face to Face are by far my favorite segments. Everything else is depicted as something dark and malicious, but only in these two songs is it easy to remember that humans are also capable of good. We're also capable of kindness and our world is lovely and worth living/fighting for. Much too often we focus on the negative but simple things like people smiling or hugging are really wonderful.
This movie brings back so many memories for me. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life
DECADES OLD AND THIS WORK IS STILL BEAUTIFUL
This is one of the best films I've ever seen omg Shep and the Record Company Owner are real ones
Right? I love Shep so much and the Record Company Owner came thru for them! I love that he had a picture of them all together (in their natural form, blue) on his desk! So cute! 💖✨🦋
It may just be an extremely long music video but it freaking rocks
Watching this for the second time because I told my bf about it and I just had to watch this masterpiece again
Probably one of my favorite audio visual piece of art i discovered, back in the days, as a teenager, thx to MCM these days.
Rewatching it now, that melancholy and even the animations, still working like a charm on me !

Rip a Daft Punk.
Watching this, there's so much period tech just about in the background. Mini disks, VCR, cassette tapes & medium format film SLR's. Obviously the film itself is in 4:3 for CRT TV's of the time as well.
R.I.P To the legend Leiji Matsumoto who was the mastermind behind these gorgeous music videos

When the 2000s began I was like 4 years old. I didn’t had the consciousness of a teen or adult, but watching and listening this kind of music just make me go into another world, I can’t describe it. It’s just about a vibe and well there was issues in the world too but all that I can say is that social media and smartphones ruined everything the world gave to us 25 years ago

So beautiful song and animation from Leiji Matsumoto. A classic.
truly one of the best pieces of media ever made ❤🔥
Watching this whole movie gives me hope
Humanity is capable of very cruel acts like what happened to the Crescendolls in this movie
But we also have the collective power to make everything right
It's why when Face to Face comes on, it feels like the happy ending and we end it on the credits with Too Long
I just love that late 70s/early 80s anime aesthetic.
