There is an alternate reality where Soos’ dad is just extremely busy with work, not partying in New Orleans, and while he still doesn’t make it to Soos’ birthday party, he uses his 8 hours of free time to travel half way around the world to see his son and give him his birthday present right before Soos was going to bed. It was a green donkey plushie and it becomes one of Soos’ most treasured possessions. It meant more than words can describe to Soos that his father was able to wish him happy birthday in person for once.

I like that soos' obsession with stan isn't shown as creepy or used to make him the butt of a joke. (I guess the soos shirtless in stan's car scene is an exception) he wants to earn stan's approval because he sees him as a father figure, because he's never had a father. I've always loved that little detail about soos. They don't throw it in your face either, which is another thing I like. Add that amazing subtle detail to the list of reasons why soos is iconic.
I guess, in a way, Soos wasn't trying to be 'creepy' in that scene. He could be trying too hard and it came off that way (to both us and Stan). That's my take on it because it was kinda a weird moment.
