  • I Built My Own Golf Simulator - Part 2 | Garden Room Build | DIY Golf Studio | Fold Away Golf Sim
In the previous episode I shared an insight into my home build golf simulator / studio. Originally I started with a simple hitting net, then progressed to purchase my first launch monitor, a SkyTrak. It needed to be one that had multiple functions for all the family to enjoy and so “Oscars” was the result. Oscars is a golf studio, entertainment area & home cinema. To do all of these things, the golf sim had to be something that would be hidden away when not in use. In Part 1, you see how I achieved that with some clever design & a lot of hard labour. We now have a fantastic venue for parties, cinema & enjoying my love of golf.
In this episode / Part 2, follow lots of interest, I'm going to take you through how I build the garden room itself:
Firstly get rid of the huge trees, get planning permission, dig out the area for foundations and determine maximum size.
Concrete steel reinforced slab. 10” deep, hardcore, blinding sand, DPM, then concrete and mesh. Approx £5k including excavation. Contractor was www.srlgoundworks.co.uk.
Found www.nodigging.co.uk and decided on Steel build. 1.5mm thick pre galv steel. Formed channel, so light weight and easy to handle. Tek screw the panels to one another and large anchor bolts to the slab. Approx £5.5k for panel frames.
The external is made up of 12mm OSB, tyvek breathable membrane, 2x2 vertical and horizontal battens, then vertical Trespa Pura composite cladding. This was just under £10k supply and fitted by www.mcroofing.co.uk.
The roof, is an insulated roof, so that’s plywood, VCL, 4” thick PIR insulation tapered to give a fall, then fully sealed with a 1.5mm thick rubber membrane. Then the facias and gutters. This was just under £6k supply and fitted by www.mcroofing.co.uk.
5 door bi-fold doors 4m x 2.3m high. with integrated blinds, plus the 3x slot windows, all in aluminium, powder coated in anthracite grey. Supply only approx. £5k. Supply only by www.northeastbifold.co.uk. Fitted by www.ramagewindows.com.
I then pulled in 30m of 10mm armoured cable, from the house consumer unit under the ground and up into the wall cavity around to the new consumer unit in this building. Then the first fix cabling, excluding terminations. I did get a qualified electrician in to do the terminations of plugs, lights and underfloor heating.
Rockwool insulation, 100mm thick in slab form. 55m2 of the stuff, £500.
Vapour plasterboard 12.5mm thick. Approx, £400. Walls and ceiling.
On the floor we then fitted large 600 x 600 light grey ceramic tiles. Sourced from www.stonesuperstore.co.uk.
    Underfloor heating sourced from www.theunderfloorheatingstore.com
At this point it’s a watertight building ready for plastering and fit out.
That’s it for this video, I’ll follow this one up with the internal fit out.

I reckon you may have potential to set up a chipping range from your mat out through the bifolds to a padding pool target

@TheGeordieGolfer keep up the good work on the channel. It's really interesting what you are doing for your golf journey. Could you have a look at the tempo trainer o made on my channel and maybe you could feature it in one of your episodes. It basically does the same as the tempo training apps that you can buy only its better cos you can see the sounds before you hear them and it's FREE!

how about noise when you are hitting - does this piss off your nieghbours?

    • @TheGeordieGolfer
      @TheGeordieGolfer  Před 3 měsíci

Good question. No, that’s why I went with the rockwool insulation, in truth, more for sound than heat retention for this reason (although it does both, but PIR which is better for heat is poor for sound) 👍🏻

Awesome vid. Wonder what total cost is until internal fit?

Hi Derek. Thanks so much for the positive comment, much appreciated. I’ve not stated the total cost, as the intention is to cover the essential things needed to construct the room & show what’s involved & how much I spent on the essentials. Things like the underfloor heating, tiles etc, I’ve not stated in the video, however I have added more costs into the description 👍🏻
