- Eliud Kipchoge is a once in a lifetime kind of runner. He is the only human to ever run a marathon under two hours. His progression over the years has been one of a kind and if he continues the way he has we might be in store for the first ever sub two hour marathon on a record eligible course.

He defenetly is not the greatest Long distance runner this title belongs to haile Gebresalassie or KENENISA BEKELE. kenny already has 3 olympic golds one silver. Lost only one 10k in his career got 16 world championship golds whereas Kipchoge has 2

When Eliud K. breaks the 2 hour mark in an official race whether next year or in the next Olympics in 2024 he'll just be racing against himself.

He is the greatest athlete of all time already. Update he just ran Boston, poor conditions, rainy second half 2:09 for 6th place. I do not think Kipchoge is done yet though.

Greatest in the Marathon discipline yes but "All Time" that is subjective at best there are many other great distance runners out there who get no recognition let alone respect and their records STILL STAND aka Daniel Komen.
if he can win the Paris 2024 Olympic marathon, making him the only person to win three Olympic gold medals in the marathon, then were would you put him all-time?

love your argument and info. Bolt, Lewis, and Phelps are all worthy of the greatest athlete ever.
Phelps has 28 Olympic medals with 23 of them being gold which is ridiculous!
One of the biggest arguments I would say that could make Kipchoge the greatest ever is that he won his first world champion gold at 18 years old in 2003. Fast forward to 2024 and if he wins gold in Paris making it his third marathon gold, his longevity is much greater then those three athletes that you named.
Not to mention the first man ever to run under two hours and he continues to lower the official marathon world record closer to that 2 hour mark.
