    There should be a "Declare Emergency" signal from you to all nearby stations and the nearest will respond with all the information needed for you to reach safety asap including a clear access into the station (no ship going in or out until you reach the nearest landing pad). ;-)

    • @TheByQQ
      @TheByQQ Před 7 lety +51

      This. This makes a lot of sense, especially if I'm using docking computer because I suck at using lateral thrusters and finding the entrance/correct pad. I'm about to die and the docking computer is like "waiting in queue"! Well yeah, sure, it's ok, I have all the time in the world.
      Also, running out of oxygen within a few hundred metres from the station while in emergency should result in getting towed into the station, not blowing up to pieces.

    • @Danspy501st
      @Danspy501st Před 7 lety +18

      I will say the same. I mean we see signals for NPCs that had ran out of fuel, or a emergency ships to come. But again, Elite does it's best to not care about you as a player XD

    • @IronMan-kt1lb
      @IronMan-kt1lb Před 3 lety +1

      @@TairnKA the issue is how too tell if it’s abuse. They obviously cannot survey everyone who is to use this new system, and automating it, for example if you do it within 5 minutes of each distress signal, leaves room for errors, such as multiple people “trolling” a station like Jameson with extreme traffic. Or the person doing it again as soon as the timer runs out. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but the payout for the effort and testing that will no doubt occur on the open sever is negligible, thus rendering it impractical to undertake a feat such as this. regardless this oops one reason a commander should always fly with rebuy.

  • @eugenbold3174
    @eugenbold3174 Před 7 lety +201

    Wanna hear a scary story?
    "Cabin pressure alert." But really though...
    Getting your canopy smashed is one of those areas where Elite really shines. The moment your canopy flies out into the void, you are given a very sudden and very rude reminder that you are in space, and space has no feelings or cares for what happens to you. It is only an open grave for the careless. Instantly, you go from being in a fight with another ship (which is where 99%-100% of all canopy breaches occur, right?) to being in a fight for your life. It's a race against the clock.
    Not only that, but you lose your primary navigation tool - *no HUD!* Now you have to resort to using ship panels and dashboard utilities. No point-and-select targets. The fact that you are flying a ship suddenly becomes very real as you have to rely on the compass and the front-left side of the dashboard, both to determine where your destination is relative to you, and how far away it is.
    Finally getting back into a space station is probably one of the most rewarding feelings. I've had this experience, and I can say for a fact that it was both scary and thrilling at the same time. Fun to experience, but you never want it to happen again, for sure!

      +Eugen Bold I know, I had been in the same before. But I had tried one thing out, that I think anyone should know. If your canopy explodes... Then get to the nearest starport. No outpost, a starport
      The reason I tried it was because I was curious about it (And we talking about some weeks ago, maybe a month) Like, would I be safe to land on an outpost if my canopy is gone? And I tried to turn off my life support before I landed and turned it back on. I landed. It didnt told me that it was refreshed (Like it does in a station) then I tried to turn it off while I was landed. It didnt work. I just thinking that it is nice to know that

    My scariest moment was when I was testing out my then new Imperial clipper and flew to an navigationbeacon near a sun. Suddenly I got atacked by an pirate wing, a powerplay agent, lost my shield and 99% hull. Of cousre I derpped out hard and forgot to rectract my weapons and didnt understand why I couldnt jump out, after I managed that they were still hunting me and I had to hurry to find the nearest station. I targeted an planet and barely escaped another interdiction. Then when I finally reached my destination I realiesed this was probably the most busy ground installation I ever had seen and had to dodge those
    crazy npcs before finally with around 1 m/s I landed on the landing pad.
    I litterally held my breath while landing because from smuggling I knew, one bump onto the pad and I would probably be dead.

      That entire time you were docking I was just thinking to myself, "I hope this noob just eats it. Maybe it'll teach him a lesson." But alas you managed to kick your way through it.
      So here's the lessons to learn from this. Don't continue in a extraction site with less than 70% hull. Less than that, and you can be pretty sure you have module damage. And if you die. You lose all your bounties. Approach stations in the throttle sweet spot. The blue section. It's designed to make that the perfect place to be. Using two different types of fixed weapons at the same time. YOU CANT AIM MORE THAN ONE AT A TIME! not to mention the fact that you barely even use your small lasers. Those are two guns that you just let go to waste during the fight. You engaged a stronger ship that's also in a wing. And you did it without backup.
      Point being made here is that you did almost everything wrong and didn't even learn a lesson from it. Do better in the future or it will happen again.

    Hehe, experienced that some times too and I oh so love how they implemented the broken canopy. It's just such a great detail how the sound gets all muffled, since no atmosphere = no sound waves from your environmental audio simulator (always bugs me when there is sound in a vacuum and no explanation) and all you can hear is _you_ breathing heavily and some sound vibrations travelling through your ships hull, your chair, your body, your helmet, very distant, very faint. Even tho I experienced it quite alot (my Clipper got a huge canopy that pops all the time), it still scares me to the point of shaking every time the canopy goes bye-bye.

I thought it would be easy pickings when i spotted an adder, despite it being escorted by two eagles. I go in for the kill, and with my ship outfitted for shield tanking, i thought i had a clear upper hand. My shields got shredded quickly when they started firing railguns and plasma accelerators, and as i ran to recover my shields, they kept whittling down my hull. I was constantly thinking "shitshitshitshitshitshit-" as i charged my FSD. eventually i did jump and escape to Ohm city, but by then my Cruscader was held together by a singular bit of scrap metal (it was indicating i was at 0% hull). what really terrified me is that i didnt have the credits to rebuy at that time.

    Based on my experience, basic life support is barely enough for an emergency landing, you'll need to optimize the flight to make your way home; and in some cases, you're screwed regardless of how hard you try, because some random stupid cop may think it would be fun to interdict you for a "routine check". 10-minute life support is almost mandatory for a safe returning. And if you operate in a distant area or expect rough escape, it's usually in your best interest to bring as much oxygen as possible.
    This combining some other shenanigans are the main reason I started to run mission assessment before each flight. Even the most basic briefing would turn idiots into passable pilots, since they would know what they were doing.

I remember when I was bounty hunting and got my canopy destroyed, I was literally right next to the station when the timer reached 0. And it was because some dumb NPC tried interdicting me on my way back so I lost the most valuable 10-20 seconds of my entire life.

    I once did an auto dock in this and apparently clear to go in, just as I entered this gigantic ship came out, wedging my ship between his and the wall, it was getting crushed, alarms were going off everywhere, there was nothing I could do but pull the plug on my PS4. Sheer panic.

    Can confirm, canopy breach is the scariest shit ever. I remember my first time clearly. Got intercepted by some pirates (I was just messing around in my eagle), they f***ed me up big time, I barely escaped. Headed back to station, got intercepted a second time (this was pretty early when they had this bug where you can't fight an intercept), first shot broke my canopy. I was so shocked this could even happen! My brain just went "WHAT The f- wait, is that hud actually projected on the canop- WAIT, I need oxygen" and I just made it with 20 seconds left xD

    My experience was even worse
    I was in a cargo ship delivering to a planet when suddenly I get interdicted, I'm in a type 6 so I cant fight back at all and I dont have the engine to run
    I slowly get whittled down and the charge of the FSD takes forever
    A second bandit jumps in and my hull goes down to 15%, Feeling helpless
    Finally, my canopy starts to crack
    It breaks and I'm sure I'm done for.
    I just run, full power to engines and just go.
    I realize that security ships have jumped in and are fighting off the attackers, I have 10% hull and 4 minutes of air
    I get into super cruise and target the nearest station, its planetary
    Barely see where the planet is and slam into it too hard, knocking me out of supercruise, I only have a bit of time to get back to supercruise and down to the surface.
    As i finish charging up a whole ass anaconda jumps in right in front of me, another second and I would've been dead.
    Jump back to supercriuse and start heading down to the planet, right above the station, 2 minutes and dropping fast
    Glide engaged, 1:20 left
    get to the station and que my landing pad, 40 seconds left
    get to the pad with less than 20 seconds of air
    touchdown, 16 seconds left
    its still going down
    unlike spaceports the planetary ones dont have atmosphere
    Rush into the menus and click "canopy repair" with 6 seconds left
    it finally stops.
    Finally safe.

    Can you imagine going into supercruise and some random tiny pebble came flying at you beyond the speed of light and just perforated you like a BB to a soggy sheet of paper, good thing you had shields
    I had a scary experience sorta like this too just yesterday, I'm still fairly new to the game and I was taking my type10 out for bounties, I got all full of myself having a space galleon armed to the teeth I didn't realize I attacked a master rank corvette until it did one pass of me and shredded my shields and mist of my hull. I dumped a heatsink and slid into SC and got back to a station with 4% hull, narutally most my modules were fried so I got to take it in manually... for the first time ever. The type10 is so fukin huge it takes up the entire mail slot going in and out so that was fun, hoping I didn't smack into anything hard enough to pierce my shields and sneeze the remaining hull plates off my ass before I could land. Thankfully all went well and I learned a couple mportant lessons that day, one is that you should definitely at least practice manually docking and cruising, if not dump flight assist altogether, and two, it costs... SO much to repair a Type10 from the brink, half a mil if I remember right.

As the old saying goes and as someone else already stated here in the comments, it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I've never gotten why people throw a fuss about it. Not like you can't just sell it whenever you choose.

    Don't do that in a Cobra. Read the labels of combat skills, it said "Dangerous", even if that's an ASP the ship could still pack a punch, you shouldn't have engaged with your haul at 43%. Just go to repair to a station and come back. When you're in a Python, Anaconda or Imperial Cutter then you can have the luxury of engaging multiple ships at 43% as you have more haul-enhanced compartments and bigger shields.

I just kept getting dominated by seeker missiles (I didn't have any counters on my old viper MK3

    Yeah mostly caution is the thing you need in this game. That and knowing how not to panic. Best to not get into dumb situations but when shit hits the fan you need a sense of: fuck it, run. At that moment, all power needs to immediately go to your engines, and begin boosting. You want 4 power in engine and the rest going system to restore your shields. Useful if you fsd is a bit way. My personal HOLY FUCK, moment was an interdiction sending me into the tail of a neutron stars tail. Canopy gone, ship at half everything, but I boosted away to super cruise after 2 minutes of: HOW DO I EVEN LEAVE?!? Canopy failures are common, so ensure you have a life support that can keep you alive for at least 10 minutes.
