Is altruism selfish?

  • This is how I feel about altruism. Might sound a bit negative but I try to be objective. Doing something good for others is sometimes so easy and if you know you're going to feel amazing after, isn't that selfish?

    Dead on. I totally agree with you. Wether we like it or not, a selfless act will in most cases have some sort of selfish motive behind it. That is not a bad thing, it’s human. One important truth though, speaking for myself and my experience. Karma is real - you reap what you sow.

      I believe in that as well. I don't really call it karma though. If you do good it comes back in one form or another. You feel better for sure. And maybe you don't get rewarded in your lifetime but in some other time, who knows.

      I tend to believe that behind any event is intent or lack of awareness (accident). Karma, good or bad, is cast upon you. Intently.
      Admittedly a pessimist at heart.
