    Can you just imagine how the dad must’ve felt waking up? He was asleep one minute, in his eyes, and his daughter was still small. Then he wakes up and it’s actually 6 years later and his daughter is all grown up and he missed all of those years and she had to fight and survive by herself, apart from Tuk Tuk.

      It started off when Walt Disney bought his father and mom a new house . In that house , something is off as there is a furniture that leak a deadly gas . Well what came afterward is a pure tragedy . Walt father and mother succumb to these deadly gas . His father survived but his mother did not . Walt refused to talk anything about his mother and say it was his fault that has made his mother died . This is most likely why Disney always kill their character parent in the movie . It also why we rarely see disney character having a mother figure

    Really happy that Disney did this movie! Hopefully we get a Latina princess soon BC I don’t think we have one yet (Elena doesn’t count BC it’s a show), also another Native American princess but done right this time, and another black princess that isn’t a frog for 80% of the movie. However I am so grateful that RAYA became a great disney film! Some princess movies actually need the singing but this one was better without. From her almost getting stoned in Talon, to her and Raya getting kidnapped in spine, to her getting shot in Fang for being TOO trusting. The main message is that we all have to come together and meat common ground, or else we're not gonna get anywhere.

However, Disney really dropped the ball by 1) not making it accessible to Southeast Asians, who would've come in droves to watch it, since it was limited only to Disney+ and 2) casting more East Asians than SEAsians in a movie specifically about SEAsians.

      @Slo426 Před 3 lety +37

      Yeah...It didnt feel like she did anything to earn their forgiveness. They just gave it too her, which might have been the point. They had to stop fighting and just learn to forgive and take the first step, even when it may feel impossible.
      But I totally get it. I didnt love how she didnt have to apologize or anything to ANY of them. Virana too! she;s the main one who caused all of this.

    • @PantsuMaster
      @PantsuMaster Před 3 lety +14

      @@Slo426 Exactly! The definition of trust is: firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.
      Someone could’ve proven themselves trustworthy, but only the person themselves can actually give that trust at the end of the day. It’s an unconditional thing because it’s always a choice. That’s why it was so important for Raya to have taken that leap of faith.

      But she wasn't really a villain of the story to me. Or at least, she had her own reasons. She did what was told to her and what she thought was good for her tribe (like every other tribe at the time).
      And i've seen the misconception a lot of people make-that the movie is teaching you about forgiving those who hurt you in the past (which sometimes isn't possible and might even be bad for you, i agree) but to me, it was about learning how to trust again after your trust has been failed before. Otherwise you'd just close yourself up and it wouldn't really be good for you :(
      I understand why people think the message is forgiving those who hurt you though, the movie didn't really make it clear enough.

    Billy: She’s into you, yeah.
    Me: You caught that, too?
    Seriously, Raya and the Last Dragon easily became one of my favorite Disney movies. I grew up loving Disney princesses and action movies, so I loved seeing those come together. Raya and Namaari are two of my favorite Disney princesses. I love that Raya is allowed to give into her rage instead of always being rational. She’s reasonably hurt. And I love that Namaari’s trying to do what’s best for her people and she feels the weight of all of her actions on her shoulders. The shot of her back to Raya before their final showdown is the perfect physical depiction. And even still, she has one more moment of weakness when she’s left to save the world. This movie is great. I want more of these characters. Fun fact: Dep La means “beautiful”, so they spend the entire movie calling each other beautiful. Some enemies.
    Definitely down to see you do Cruella. I’ve seen it twice, so I’m curious to see your thoughts. #bingers

    Raya and The Last Dragon has its own flaws. I’m still very conflicted about the fact that Raya and her former friend have been able to reconcile so quickly towards the very end of the film, even though they had been mortal enemies ever since the incident tore apart their nation. The former friend hasn’t done anything to regain Raya’s trust back, and I find that undeserving of any type of forgiveness since let’s be honest around here…she has caused quite a lot of damage that drove Raya to restore everything in its original order once again. I think that part was way too rushed for me. And also, Raya hadn’t been able to venture out a lot more per se, that felt a little bit rushed too. Also I think the water dragon could’ve been voiced by a different Southeast Asian/Asian actor. I mean, I have nothing against Awkwafina here as a voice actress, but let’s just say that she sounds a bit annoying from time to time especially when she tells jokes here and there throughout the duration of the entire film. At least the little boy who is Raya’s companion is pretty good as a character in the film and so is the baby. Anyways, the graphics, the visuals are just amazingly outstanding especially towards the ending part where there’s this majestic rainbow overhead. And so I was like Oh My Gosh. Disney definitely took that into serious consideration. Maybe the water dragon could’ve been animated a bit more differently as well, and it’s clear that Disney hasn’t moved past like the googley eyes phase for any of their animated characters, really. Overall, Raya and the Last Dragon is phenomenal, although, like I said, she’s got her own minor blemishes on the surface. At least us Southeast Asians feel represented in movies like this more often than usual. So yeah. Thanks Disney. Gonna be watching more of your movies. They’ve been a part of my childhood since.
