I like Malachi but I do not agree with the local approach he's taking here. The government love when the protest goes NIMBY. Look at what happened in Oughterard years ago and how the momentum was stolen. Now look at how worse off we are now! The rhetoric needs to change to reflect the nationwide problem that this is. Oh, almost all government parties support the open door immigration policy.
It's because as we are signed up to the Geneva Convention, any foreign person who makes it to Ireland and who already has been assigned refugee status by the UN (all Ukrainian citizens) or who claims to be an asylum seeker (everyone else) has to be given international protection by the State, we are legally obliged to do so and we'll be hauled up in front of the European Court of Human Rights and heavily fined if we fail to do so. There are no such protections for Irish citizens, this, in short, is why the State does diddly squat to help Irish homeless while it goes to extraordinary lengths to accommodate refugees and supposed asylum seekers, the vast majority of whom are of course fraudulent.
