- I always find film photography to be interesting. I grew up with it. My childhood photos are all developed from film. There is this sense of warmth that the digital can only come as close.
And because the market in film photography has been restarting, I tried to get my hands into film myself and join the fun!
NOTE: If you are not satisfied with my review and if you are not convinced yet to start film photography with this camera, then let me tell you that I have been playing with an old vintage film camera which I will review once I'm fully satisfied with it!

A good tip for using this camera: even without the battery in, if you turn the flash switch on, it opens up the aperture a bit, letting in more light, which can be useful for outdoor shooting without good sunlight.
thank you for this fruitful review! I'm a newbie in film photography and I'm in the process of finding a perfect film cam for beginners which is also affordable. kodak m38 was one of my choices and its very helpful watching this kind of guide, so far the best I've watched. plus the editing, music even the photos are relaxing!
Thaankks!! 😻 In full disclosure, I've recently tried a vintage cam I bought in the marketplace that has better clarity and light exposure (3500 pesos only). Reason why I'm still keeping this is because 1. It's brand new.. meaning, the vintage cams you can get can die anytime while this one is fresh from the box and 2. Since I go out of town often pre-pandemic (e.g. going to beaches and mountains), I would be confident to use this in extreme conditions (e.g. boat transfers or falls trekking). So yeah.. for a cam that's less than 2k pesos, this is already a good deal 😸 hope my additional feedback helps!! And yes, I'm also planning to review the vintage cam I got but the current lockdown situation ain't helping so I couldn't go out to shoot 🥺
@@rinatriesstuff the word "vintage" always gave me a nostalgic feeling most especially when talking about photography. Its just magical
Thank you for this! This is one of the best short reviews i've watch so far. No talking just the simple instructions and the calming background music. Thank you, i've been thinking of buying this film camera and i surely will. 📷🥺
Thank you so much 😻
I truly appreciate this review, it was honest, direct and pretty nostalgic, this was the first video i came upon while wondering if i should buy it, i definitely will now 💛✨ thank you
Thank you so much 😻
I remember the last time (high school days) I have used this type of camera. Hooh, nostalgic. The photos are crisp.
Thank you! Ah, I'm loving the mystery and charm in film photos ❤️
Best review ive watched. Thanks
This is so helpful! ❤
super vodeo was super chilled and informative thanks for your time and content❤️
that's the most beautiful review of anything I ever saw
Thank you sooo much 😻 it means a lot to me 🥹
Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but i want to get this cam , but how do i render the photos?
is the flash still working? I have seen many complaints about the flash not working after a while
hello! do you leave your battery inside the camera? does removing the battery affect the pictures taken?
Hi. How do you transfer the film photos to your phone?
what's the difference between ultramax 400 and the gold 200 film?
How do i upload the picture on my phone
Aaa what a nice review. Thanks!
Thank you 😻
hi, are this camera silent when take a picture?? Bcs im scared my camera was broke bcs no sound 😭. How i want to know if this cam already snap or not? Pls help me 😭
Hello, thanks for the reivew :D I did actually go get one for myself after watching your review :> I just have one question though, you can replace another film roll after finishing one right? Online research really give me a headache with confusing terms like disposable but also reusable camera :,>
Yes this is a reusable camera 😻 you can use any 35mm film with it. Thanks for the kind words 😸
hi sorry i have a question. does it have settings pa ba for the filter or just good to go na mag take ng pictures and rely to flash na lang? huhu
I have the same one in white and one thing I've noticed about this camera is that it tends to flare on very bright lights, so you always should use ISO 400 or 800, less then that it's kinda harsh. Great review! thanks
Hello !
I want to ask you how can I transfer photos to my phone?
@@Megustastu- Hi! well you can't, this is a real film camera: first you develop it at a proper place, then take the pictures home and scan it, that's how you transfer them to your phone
@@kauseyes oh !
Thank you so much!
may i know how do i set the iso
thx for letting us know which kind of film would work best for this! been planning to buy film rolls but never knew which kind was the best.
How do you get the pictures ?
do you use flash outdoors?
Hello! Hope you reply po, pano po kaya pag hindi naalis sa 's' kahit naka ilang shots na po?
im 41 years old this took me to the 80s such good times
Try watching my latest videos 😻 thank you so much for appreciating 😸
Can we add picture in our mobile after shooting
hi! thanks for this review:) just wanted to ask if the kodak m38 can work without the battery(if i don't use flash) and how long approximately does the AAA battery last?
Were the indoor photos taken with flashlight on?
Hi! Would you know if in checking the m38 point and shoot camera is actually working (without film), the shutter must “open” and “close” when shutter button is clicked? Because that’s what I watched in few videos but the model is the m35 and the other on is an Olympus one. So I’m wondering if it’s same with m38?
hello! i actl have the kodak m38 for a while now and I realised no it doesn't do that unless film is loaded (that's the sad part abt this cam). w/o film the shutter would be "soft" or easily pressed which means no film is being taken
how can i convert photos into digital?
Super cool vidéo thank you 😊
This is awesome thank you!
Thank you sooo much 😻
I love everything about this
Thaank yoouu 😻
This was a very good video
Hello! Hear me out. I accidentally pressed the release/rewind button of my Kodak M38. What should I do? Can I still take pictures with it?
Send help!!😭😭😭
Did you hear any rewinding/strange sound from the inside? I think you're still good for as long as you don't accidentally turn the rewind wheel 🙂
Hi, where do you store unused films po? Is it okay lang ba sa room temp??
Hi! May i ask after ba nagamit lahat ng film instore mo ba muna sa loob? or meron kang container na pag lalagyan? how do you take the film out in the camera?like paano mo sya ilabas ng hindi ito maeexpose? also pwede ba syang istore muna na hindi pa naipapadevelop?
Hey! I have found an interesting to but a kodak M35 a film camera... but I am a little bit lost (I have no knowledge about film cameras)
How can we scan and develop the film to pictures? When I was young my father used to own a film camera but he stopped using it cause the photo shops around here do not have the technology to develop anymore.
Can you tell me how that works with these cameras? How do you develop the film?
Hiii!! There is a lab here in Metro Manila that develops and scans the film... then they send your scanned film photos via email 😄 check out sunny16lab dot com! They're the best around 📷🎞
@@rinatriesstuff ohh Thank you!
Hi, what does the dot, which rolled past each number on the counter mean? Do shots taken on the dot after each number develop into films as well? Thanksss
the camera only shows numbers like 3, 6, 9.. 36 so the in between can be the numbers between those printed on camera (eg one dot after 3 means it's gg to be the 4th shot) hope this helps!
Hello , I want to ask. how to transfer pictures from the camera to a personal phone? sorry I'm a new user and don't understand how to do it
I hope you notice me
From the film camera? I have my film rolls scanned and developed at sunny16lab dot com 🙂 (they also have IG account @sunny16lab). They will email you directly your photos 😊 their developing and scanning starts at 250php (but I usually add 100php to enlarge the photos). Hope this helps!
Love !
Thank you 😻
just saw this vid after i bought one. is the film take up stool supposed to turn to the left and not the right? mine is turning to the right
I think it should be turning to the right 🤔
hi just a question if you already placed the film inside and you weren’t able to use the 36 shots is it okay to store it inside the camera ? or no coz it’ll be exposed ?
it's fine.. happens to me a lot ^^ just don't open the back cover and you'll be good. hope this helps!
@@rinatriesstuff do you just keep the battery inside the camera when with the film inside when u dont use it or you remove it ??
@@toddlehyt I remove the battery once I’m done using the flash 😸
kalau outdoor lebih bagus open flash atau tidak ? , sugg me , colour pluss or kodak gold ?
From my experience, once it gets darker outdoors (eg sunrise or sunset), flash is recommended or it will make the photos muddy. I have used both Ultramax and Gold and I prefer Ultramax better because it gives more accurate color. I find Gold a bit warmer (my thumbnail here is shot with Gold). Hope this helps!
How did u convert it to digital? Like from film to your computer
Hi! sunny16lab does it for me from processing the film to scanning. They are amazing check their services here: www.sunny16lab.com/
They also have a very detailed video of their process here: czcams.com/video/84SqBAXkl4s/video.html
how I wish I saw this video before taking photos on my m38 some precious moments were not captured properly :
How did you get the soft copy of the photos?
I have my film rolls developed and scanned at sunny16lab dot com 🙂 (they also have IG account @sunny16lab). They will email you directly your photos 😊 their developing and scanning starts at 250php (but I usually add 100php to enlarge the photos). Hope this helps!
hi i have a question! how do you know when the film is fully wound back into the canister after you've finished taking all the shots? i'm worried i'll open the back when it hasn't actually finished rewinding:')
After the last length of film goes fully into the canister, you will feel less tension and more slack when spinning.
@@FWIKNOW hi Can i know how to do to have the final result in image once the film is completed I can't find any tutorial on it, I'm looking for the after photo shoot lol
@@moussahassan9621 Ah well I haven't used a film camera since early 2000's. This was during a photography class I had to do for design school. We would develop the film ourselves in dark rooms but in your case, unless if you have access to a lab, I would take it to a local camera shop or other shop which develops films for you.
Hi ano po end number dun sa shot number ng m38?
do you need to rewind the rewind crank after every shot?? i got the same camera hahahaha and im afraid i might have a blank film when i finished the whole film😅
Ah yes! 😸 that's my first fear too 🥺
@@rinatriesstuff omggg😊 thanks for confirming it! i was really afraid that i may be doing it wrong kaya di nag aauto wind after each shot😅
Hi, do you have any tips on how to store the camera when I'm out? I'm afraid I might accidentally pressing the shutter button when its in my bag. Thank you :)
one tip is not to wind it again right after taking a shot; instead, when you find something you want to take a picture of, wind it then, then take the picture
Shutter button won't be accidentally pressed if the film is not advanced. Problem tho is with the flash -- it gets turned on very easily. I only make sure to remove the battery at all times then just put it back on whenever necessary. Hope this helps!
Hello! I have a question. I hope you reply. Should I advance the film even though I am not going to use it for a long time or no need? I just got mine today and I don't know what to do regarding that matter hehehe.
Yes you can 😸 some people do that so they can immediately take photos whenever needed. Enjoy your new camera 📷 🌟
@@rinatriesstuff thank you for the fast reply really appreciate it!
May I ask what the background music is? It's beautiful
It's A Boy and a Man and a Satellite by N. Kerbin 😻 thank you for appreciating ❤
How did you edit the video like this with the pictures on top? I love it! Thanks for the review!
I use Adobe Premiere 😸 thanks for appreciating 🖤
Is there a difference between the M35 & the M38? Other than the exterior design
the m38 is marketed to have a better flash and is about 20g heavier for "stability"
Flash is just a bit better but no huge difference 😸
Can I used cinestill 800t on this? I really love those film or filter?
Yes you can use any 35mm film with this camera 😸 but tbh now that the price of the film has soared higher, you may want to consider other 2nd hand camera options out there that can perform better in taking photos 😸
Did you use flash when shooting outside? Nice vid, btw!
Thank yooouu 😻 For landscape photos, I don't use flash at all. In the darkest hours (outside 7am - 4pm timeframe), the camera flash wouldn't really be helpful in providing enough light 🥺. However, if the subject is closer to the camera (outside the sweet spot hours 7am-4pm) then I use flash 🙂 Hope this helps!
Hello I have a question , how are you able to digitally get your film pictures ? I want to start film photography but I want to learn first . This video was useful I’m thinking about getting this camera on amazon
I also wanna know!
I think if you send the film to photo processing shop, you can ask if they can give digital copy of the photos
I got mine from photoline shop. They gave me a CD then I asked them if they could transfer it to my device since I don't have any sort of CD reader/player. Then they did! I posted my photos without hassle online~
Would you say this is better than the kodak f9?
I haven't used an F9 yet but IMO it depends on your preference. The feel that comes with it is somewhat very vintage so if you are aiming for a sharper look, any 2nd hand film cameras would beat M38. Hope this helps!
hi! is the first shot (the shutter release) counted in the film or no? :)
Nope it’s not 😺
@@rinatriesstuff alright thank u so much! super helpful vid! ☺️💗
do you need to use the film agad?
Song name?
is this the same camera na ginagamit nung 90's? coz i still have one here
Not really as these cameras are made of all plastic (even the lens). Cameras from wayback are still so much better in terms of sharpness and light exposure 😄
Hiii! What app po gamit niyo sa thumbnail? Yung parang sticker po na “kodak m38 review”. Thank youuu 🤗
actually di ko na makita yung ginamit ko ^^; pero dito pwede -- acme.com/labelmaker/
kak ini bisa masuk memori tidak??
Excusme, I want to ask. What the tittle of this song? I hope u respond me
A Boy and a Man and a Satellite by N. Kerbin 😻
wait, do u have to keep changing the film? or is it a one time thing?
it depends cuz most films last for two weeks- so they need to be changed from time to time. depends on when you plan to take pics and stuff (so you don't need to change them the whole time) - cuz they can't be in the camera the whole time (cuz that will affect the quality of the film) so you need to finish the rolls and develop it :)) hope this helps!
Is there a tendency of overexposed shot po, like when you shot outside daylight tapos with flash?
And where do you store unopened unused film po?
@@youcouldbemyonlystar5604 you could rarely overexpose a shot on film, which is why I have come to appreciate it 😄 like you can take a photo of the sky in broad daylight and still getting good result 🙂 as for using a flash outdoors, no it doesn't overexpose your photo but your subject will just illuminate more while the background will become darker
I just store my film with its original packaging stored inside a cabinet 🙂
@@rinatriesstuff Okay thank you so much! I'm new to film camera and just had my m38 cam and di ko pa ginagamit so i thought i reref pa yung films since may nabasa ako na ganun. Haha Thank you!
@@youcouldbemyonlystar5604 yeah that helps for longevity pero ubos sakin agad 🙊 pag expired film bibilhin mo oks sya but you'll get there once you get the hang of it 😅 (fyi wala pa ko sa stage na yun lol). Enjoy the rabbit hole 😸
Music? Please
Hello po! I just bought a new reto 35mm film camera. My question is it ok to not use all the film after taking 5 photos and just take other photos next time? Or kung nasa loob na ung film kelangan ubusin lahat in one day?
Yup need to consume everything before replacing the film or your film will be exposed to light na 🥲 hope this helps!
Aww thank you for replying. But I can keep the film inside the camera right? It wouldnt expose the pictures right? Like for example today I took 5 pictures and after 1 week I use it again.
@@roronere2038 ah yes you can naman 😸 enjoy!!
Kelangam po ubusin sya in one day? Or pwede naman whenever I want as long as hindi ko buksan?
Thank you so much po!
Hi Rina.. are these pictures from 1:46 until 2:12 using flash or nah ?
No flash 🙂
im so confused on you you upload lik the photos from the camera to the computer ToT
Do you ever had troubles loading your film roll?? If so, any tips?? I have the m38 and ayaw kumapit ng film 😩
Minsan nakak-stress sya 😩 make sure before you close the film door mag-roll sya kahit 1 notch lang.
how you digital ur photos
I have a separate content for that 😸 sunny16lab processes and scans the photos, doing this difficult job for us haha czcams.com/video/VTmgoS3_RBA/video.html
How to save photo ?
We have a local film laboratory here that processes and scans film photos for us 😸 check out their services here www.sunny16lab.com/
@@rinatriesstuff Thank you for share big big😆 ☺️
How much photos can we usually take for one film?
Depends on which film you buy
I use kodak colourplus 200 , this film takes 35 photos

based from my experience, I don't see any difference between both 🙂

Bagusan kodak m38 apa m35 ka?
I actually have both M35 and M38 🤭 there's no much difference as when I developed both photos, they just look similar. It's good that they are reviving the film industry again and that they are selling film cameras again, but if you have access to working vintage old cameras, I think any of them could easily beat both M35 and M38. I actually recently bought one (for only 70 USD vs M38 at 30 USD) and I'm still testing it but so far, I'm loving the look and feel of old vintage cameras 😊 I will post my final review maybe next month! Hope this helps 😃
btw my thumbnail photo was taken using m35 😃
