  • Guylines are often overlooked but critical part of tent setup. In this video I share how my tent guylines are setup to improve tent storm worthiness and flexibility, allowing site locations which can't use of stakes by attaching to rocks or other unmovable objects.

    Do you use guy lines? Have you customized them at all? Tell me about your guy lines.

      Yes, I use guy lines, and I have often used rocks, but I have not yet customized any of my lines. I liked your use of dyneema lines that you showed in this video.

    What is your setup to adjust the length on the door tie-outs at 8:25? Just a slip-knot or also a LineLoc V right at the doors?

    • @MountainsCallingMe
      @MountainsCallingMe  Před 9 měsíci +1

      One of the doors has an existing piece of hardware to adjust the length of the line. I run my line thru that.
      On the other door I attached a line lock with webbing on it thru a tiny loop that is there. Here is the piece I used to do that zpacks.com/products/lineloc-v-with-loop - i keep a bunch of these on hand and use them to customize all my tents.

      @@MountainsCallingMe thanks! my tent has the larger Linelocs that don't work with 1.5mm rope. Hopefully I can get the Lineloc V's in Europe.

    Useful video. Thanks. So for the Lineloc it looks like you thread it up thru the square hole closest to the V, then over and down across the bridge of the buckle. And you've never had these loosen during a rain or wind storm, except for tent fabric/staking issues?

    • @MountainsCallingMe
      @MountainsCallingMe  Před rokem +1

      That is correct. Using 2.0mm dyneema line I have never had one loosen itself during weather. I believe the thicker the line the less likely it is to loosen. I would imagine the line cannot be too slick as well. They say you can use a line-loc V with 1.3mm line but I have never tried because I think the 1.3mm line is too thin for long trips attaching to jagged sharp rocks.

      @@MountainsCallingMe And I like how you used the ring for two tie out points and only one line. Going to order some lineloks and the 2mm line. Thinking too of MSR groundhog stakes and I did order a Gossamer Gear footprint ($15 with shipping) vs. the Durston Gear footprint. Light weight but $48!

    How is this tent for taller people? I am 6'2 with 13 feet and use a large neoair and 20 deg quilt.

    • @MountainsCallingMe
      @MountainsCallingMe  Před rokem

      I am about 5'9" & size 12 feet and I have lots of room at the head and foot end. I believe you would be ok. The geometry of the tent gives lots of headroom (compared to the Zpacks Duplex). Not sure if you saw, but I also have a one year review of the Portal 2 on my channel if your looking for more insights. 🤓👍

    Using a criss-cross staking setup for the door.... how do you get out the door? Or is that only for the door you don't use?

    • @MountainsCallingMe
      @MountainsCallingMe  Před rokem

      With the line loc adjuster right there at the corner edge of the door I am able to loosen the tension on one door enough to get out. There is extra length on the line there the door has lots of slack then with enough room to get out comfortably.
