- In honour of "RGG Studio's Japanese Twitter account make up fake days I swear" day, we will honour our fallen mechanics and minigames of the Yakuza series that will never again see the light of day. Probably. I mean Lao Ka Long's back so who even knows anymore.

Jokingly, I will smash my face into the door, only to find it slide wide open. Hesitantly, I shall walk down the stairs, only to hear the familiar sounds of an object with considerable mass collide with 10 smaller objects, creating an unforgettable sound resulting from their collision. The nostalgia. The peace of familiarity.
“Hell yeah!” Ichiban will shout, as Nanba and Adachi cheer for yet another one of his strikes. His third, in fact. That’s a turkey. They will rush excitedly to the desk to inform the lady there of their accomplishments. They are to be rewarded with none other than a chicken… Nugget, my old friend. Not an atom of your small, feathered body will have felt the sands of time. It will be good to see you again.

One mechanic I miss is being able to keep your heat if you end a fight with a heat action

It was probably a bug. You can do that as well in Y0 but just for a couple heat actions: it seems the fight ending screen appears just a little before the game takes the heat for the heat action.
I did it consistently in the colosseum with Majima’s HA in thug style that triggers once the enemy is getting free from your grab.
I do remember keeping the heat if I ended the fight with the DoD stun heat action in Kiwami 1

The removal of the shortcuts bothers me the most tbh. Oh and you forgot the verticality of Y4.
More accessible rooftops, the underground shopping street and stuff like that would've been nice to keep.
Yakuza 4 Kamurocho was something special
I actually found the Y4 Kamuro underground to be quite forgettable. I do feel like they could've made it more interesting and kept it in Y5 and onwards to expand kamurocho.
@@kingwexler7473 That's my point. Kamuro is small. Adding a little space is neat thing. So you don't have every third substory play out at Childrens Park or Public Park Nb.3 for example.
Honestly? Thank god they forgot about the rooftops trying to navigate the city through the rooftops was a nightmare. The underground mall was cool though

One of the few instances where RGG Studios doesn't reuse assets.
Disco was another thing I wish RGG had kept for the franchise, sure it kinda died out after the 80s. But for them to make an entire mini game that's as good and fun as disco only to ditch it, is kinda sad in my eyes. Rest in peace Maharaja, I'll always remember the fun times I had at those Friday nights
The disco was the best minigame too. I freaking loved everything about it.
I know 😩 I played Yakuza 0 first and realising that disco never comes back with more and more games I played was heartbreaking. It was my favourite too

Actually that helicopter had auto pilot which gave Kiryu the ability to shoot it down and not kill anyone. Even as the destroyed parts of the helicopter landed on the streets of Kamurocho Kiryu made sure no one was hurt. What a hero.

Also the Dragon Engine was a clear evolution for the series. They couldn't keep pumping out games in a PS3 engine that would probably all play similarly to Y0.
To me it sounds like you started the series with Yakuza 0 and is mad the rest of the franchise doesn't play exactly the same, or in the words of Smashlord 3: sounds like bitchin to me 😎
Yakuza before just had lots of activities to do and the pocket tissues thing was nothing but a detail for realism. Sure is a shame we've lost lots, karaoke especially

@@horizonmage_o1839 cause tanimura’s model is based on an actor. They can’t use actors faces in newer games without signing a contract. And there is also a tendency in yakuza games where characters based on actors only appear in a single game, exluding yagami and namba.
I don't mind letting Shinada go if it means he's having happy life somewhere out there.

They are great fun if you have an upgraded character. The last one is the best fight in the whole series. Though I agree, having 3 levels for each was unnecessary.
all the 'forgotten' characters make me wish we'd see a return of them in the ichiban arc. Shinada could be an optional recruitable after some baseball minigame storyline for instance, but one character i thought would make the most sense in this 'new era' that would really carry the torch nicely would be... Taichi.
Dude's already got a unique style (as he wanted to be a wrestler), he would be perfect in Y7 as someone who doesn't believe Kiryu died and would add more meat to the whole reason Kiryu appears in that game to begin with and on top of that you could have a great support conversations with him about how his life looked like prior, which could maybe have some new information for long-time fans.
I honestly hope that Ichiban battles the Fixer for Kiryu’s freedom and then Kiryu becomes his sort of second surrogate-yakuza-dad and mentor. I think Kiryu having a relationship with Ichiban like he did with Nishiki would be really wholesome and could finally make Kiryu happy again.
If one of the sequels to 7 (hopefully 8 or 9) have the Fixer as an antagonist, I want to have it full of substories with characters from other games. Imagine bringing in Haruka, Ryuji, Nishida, Shinada, Date, Gary Buster Holmes, Makoto, Kaoru, and everyone else to support Ichiban throughout the substories and at the end having everyone you met again as Ichiban come in at the end to help defeat the Fixer and save Kiryu with the new Sotenbori security company backing Ichiban and his crew led by Daigo, Watase, Majima, and Saejima leading the combined forces of the Tojo and Omi gone legit. That’d be an epic battle.

The guy who written the plot that make her goes overseas and just forget what she and Kiryu have been through in yakuza 2/kiwami 2 freaking absurd.
She is a damn fine character that ryu ga gotoku studio forgot.
Her never returning and the Ryudo family from Okinawa never returning as well are the 2 that really puzzle me. Kaoru at least has the excuse of being overseas but the Ryudo family just kinda disappeared after 3

The biggest thing missing from the Dragon Engine games is the bartender. You used to be able to pick what you wanted to drink, and the bartender would give you some brief notes about whatever you chose. It always made the game more relaxing and got me interested in several of the products in the game to try in real life.

This is a 18 year old Peepeewine, it is made from finest grapes in the mountains of Okinawa, in the cherry tree barrels. You killed like 5 people to afford one shot of it

I think it was because of drawing a with the licenses being a bit funky after the mid 2010’s, but I’m not sure. The post-0 games had some major flips between the licenses.

Should've put in the dynamic street interactions with NPC's that were in Yakuza 0.
Seriously, the new games LOOK wonderful but remember how immersive it was when NPC's would actually walk in groups with each other, have conversations on the street, shop at businesses, and salesmen or working girls would approach you for business?
Like they really could make Ijincho feel so much more alive by making the homeless people have little routines and meetups, and the uptown areas have buisnessmen hanging out at night, or high schoolers actually hanging out (and not getting their faces disfigured by a man riding a skateboard).
I remember the same three salarymen running at the same time like it was yesterday.

Bowling, Pool, and Fishing have to be brought back in the 8. the amount of potential it has for banter between Ichiban and his party is huge
Yeah I don't think bowling is coming back anytime soon. If they chose to not bring it back for the remake of the game that introduced it then why would they bother again? I'm going to assume the Dragon Engine has an issue with ball physics which is why bowling doesn't exist anymore in the series and why they chose to use Unity for Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania instead.
I think fishing is cool and has lots of potential for new party chats, but bowling and pool is really just a roundabout way to add more one on one sessions, which the existing minigames and Drink Links either did just as well or better.

Also, shoutouts to Bob Utsunomiya, dude filled all of the coin lockers in presumably every game he appears in, so he may still be with us, stuffing anything and everything imaginable into those lockers (except for babies, even he has his limits)
That’s why Bob started stuffing the lockers after 2001 - he couldn’t bear another baby being stuffed inside and turning into a criminal, so he started filling them all to make sure nobody ever had enough space in them to do it again.

Remember when Yakuza 1 to Yakuza 4 had substories with actual cutscenes in them? And the only reason Kiwami and Kiwami 2 have them is because they're remakes, but even then Yakuza Kiwami turned one cutscene of the Mizuki substory into a regular dialogue scene.

If the rumored leaks about Ryuji's past being shown in Yakuza 8 is true and they follow the story from RGG Online then Shinada might return very soon (as well as Kuze) since they are an integral part in Ryuji's story...

@@Casshio There are other leaks showing Ryuji. I personally reckon the Ryuji leaks are a separate game if they’re actually real, though.

I think those leaks are just some kind of testing, as they show both joon gi and ryuji walking around onomichi. I don't know why they're there, but I doubt they'd use different animation rigs for the models they use in RGG online cinematics, so I'm gonna bet they were just slapped into yakuza 6 for whatever reason.

As much as I adore Shinada, I'm unsure what they could even do with him in the future, his little part had an arc that started and ended. Tanimura on the other hand really felt like he couldve been a recurring character in kamurocho.
I think having him as a minor character would be neat in Ichiban’s adventure. Just a casual pal like what was supposed to happen with Akiyama before Nick was put in to replace him (which, for the record, was NOT to ignore Akiyama, his VA just didn’t have the schedule available).

I don’t get that, why people hate Judgement? It fixed several Y6 and YK2 combat issues and got rid of every single Yakuza character to build an amazing story.

atleast they scaled down the number of tailing missions in lost judgment. apart from that one tailing mission in the kaito files that made me want to jump off a building

I'm hoping Bowling and Pool returns in Yakuza 8. They are perfect games to play with your party members.
Shinada is still one of the best characters in the series. It is criminal we don't ever see him after 5.
Especially considering they at least had a perfect cameo excuse for baseball in Yakuza 6. Guess Kiryu called when he needed good players, but Shinada still had no data.

How could you leave out don quixote, I cry at night when I remember it's removal. The lack of the iconic don quixote jingle makes the streets of kamurocho feels so void and lonely. And even though it's gone the memories made aren't, so one last time "don don don don qui, don quixote..."

As a beginner in this franchise, I'm so sad. I've spent 107 hrs. in Yakuza 0 and most of it in minigames. I'm still in chapter 6 ffs.

The reason why Shinada is gone, is because there is literally no reason for him to be involved in the story anymore. His story just so happened to overlap with the rest of the guys’, and when the story was over, he played his part, and went home to live his own life. I love Shinada and he’s an amazing character, but he shouldn’t be brought back if it doesn’t make sense. If he makes a cameo at some point, that would be cool.
Edit: I also feel bad for Tanimura’s original actor, and what happened to him. They *might* have been able to let him make an appearance in 6 with his recast actor……
but he was kind of a boring character anyway.
I think the real wholesome message we can all unite under as a community is:

I loved yakuza 5 and I guess most of it came from Shinada alone, his character his music his story his goals his philosophy and that fan who now he owns money even him made the game much more beloved for me. Oh and don’t forget in the remastered version the music in his fight with daigo god damn it was amazing and fitting so well.
Sad to hear that, also, the shortcuts in judgement was removed on 2021.
I hate the fact that I can't see my character eating in the newer games. It was one of my favorite little things in yakuza and now it's gone 😢
