- OPTIMIST is leaving San Francisco after a life largely spent in the Bay Area. As one of the early Americans to relocate to Asia, OPTIMIST lived in Taiwan bombing the city for 3 years during a time period when the country had no scene & the public was unaware of graffiti. Eventually he moved back to the Bay and has been there since. His life has been mired with a sense of instability due to involvement with graffiti. His upcoming art show “Travelin' Man” will be showing at RVCA SF on September 1st. 2023.

It’s ironic that he writes optimist after hearing this, but he’s absolutely right about everything he said in this interview. That’s not being pessimistic it’s calling it for what it is. That’s why the other half of the new generation is so jaded.

Listened to this and felt pretty bleak and bummed out, then listened to the Trav MSK right after and was reminded life is all about your perception. Definitely recommend that for a pallet cleanser

It's sad. I love the city. But I've been seeing and feeling the same way for a while as well.
SF will always have so much to offer, if you get a chance to visit it go. Go to Coit Tower, go to the Haight, the park. But the vibes on a more local level are exactly how Optomist says. A lot of people are moving to Oakland. Maybe there's a change for a great art scene sprouting there. Oakland has a lot to offer as well. It's not all some giant ghetto like the bad wrap it gets. But the City was something special and now it's rich techies and lost souls, in general. Idk where that next cultural mecca will be. Are people still going to Portland and Seattle all them time

I kinda get what ur saying about writers coming to cities but pull further back on the time line and you see that nyc had artists long before graffiti. SF had an beat poets and artists before graffiti.

I’m always available for a fellow writer who can’t stop the madness, I also had a sustainability issue for over 25 years. Suffered so much longer than I ever needed to but I had to learn what I needed to learn in order to destroy my ego and ultimately survive through a life I never thought possible. Still bomb, still wreck shop. Nothing is more expensive than regret.
