So many peoples' expectations were WAY too high for Sydney going into this. 49.71 as a season opener with such a clear mistake made in the race plan bodes extremely well for her. Good job Paulino on your continued dominance.

Syd looked like she was doing a stamina time trial, because down the back straight she seemed to be pressing on the gas still, when that should be the maintain form, keep pace and settle phase. The gas tank was out by 300m, but still did well to use strength to hang on to the line. Paulinho showed a seasoned formula for the whole 400m

@@afrobuddy4801 Sydney ran the 4th leg of the 4x400m at the 2022 World Championships in 47.91 and her leg was 403m. Digest that and look at the data from this race and you will see that Sydney wasn't even trying to win this race or set a PB, she started of at a pace that was on target to run sub 47.00 when the WR is 47.60 and she held that pace through the 300m mark until the wheels fell off between 330m -340m. The fact that she was able to hold on to finish in 49.71 shows how much superior she is to your 400m Queen Shaunae Miller-Uibo because in 2017 when Shaunae wheels fell off in the World Championship Finals in London she only manages to run 50.49 to finish outside the Medals in 4th. Had she been able to hold her form like Sydney, she would have won Gold because Phillis Francis who won the Gold Medal only ran 49.92.
When Bobby analyse the data from this race and finalise Sydney's race plan, the 400m WR of 47.60 will most likely fall before the end of this season at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships or at the Monaco DL. Sydney wasn't running to win that race, or else she would have been strategic and tracked Paulino for the first 300m and then use her superior speed to runaway from Paulino with ease in the last 100m. What Sydney did was start off at a pace that would shatter the 400m WR of 47.60 and held it until the wheels fell off, so that her coach, Bob Kersee can analyze the data and create the race plan that would give Sydney to best opportunity to break the 400m WR of 47.60. The data shows that Sydney held a pace that was on track to run sub 47.00 through the 300m mark and the wheels fell off at about 330m-340m. If you understand the data you would know that Sydney's performance was absolutely amazing, because it suggests that Sydney is going to break the 400m WR of 47.60 before the end of this season and most likely at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships or at the Monaco DL. Paulino isn't even in Sydney's class and the fact that she was smiling at the end with what she considered a victory, suggests that she have no idea what Sydney and Bobby were really doing in that race.

No, you can't expect Sydney to hit the mark every single time, especially in an event that she is just beginning to focus on. Paulino was insane in this race. Being pushed by Sydney at the front, if she didn't slow down by the final 25-30m stretch, she would have easily smashed her own PB, hitting low 48s or possibly better. That's an outrageous time. Sydney, whether intentional or not, paced herself incorrectly in this race and had nothing left by the end. It was a strategic error on her part, but even without errors, it would have been difficult to beat Paulino on this day.
