  • Hello there and welcome here friends! Today's video is all about cloth diapering and what I've learnt since starting one year ago. I primarily use pocket diapers from Nora's Nursery (NOT SPONSORED) and have found them to work great for our family.

Yes they are more work in the home. BUT if you consider the hours you’d have to work at a job to pay for disposable it really isn’t more work. It’s just different work

I plan on cloth diapering my baby and for me, the “ew” factor isn’t really there because, regardless, we still have to change dirty diapers whether they are reusable or not 🤷‍♀️ also, kids will have accidents in their underwear when they are potty training so what’s the difference?! You don’t throw out that underwear! Haha

Pockets have a stay dry layer so baby actually won’t feel wet during the night because the pocket is lined with a fleece material which is moisture wicking

Brooke Vanderkley maybe try stuffing your pockets with a bamboo cotton prefold or flat. They hold a ton I’ve never had a leak due to compression using those. I actually don’t use inserts with my pockets I always use the mf for cleaning my house lol

Just add a four sack towel for night time! It’s SO absorbent and you can put it against baby’s skin. They are SO cheap! 5 pack for less than $5 at Walmart!

Ok! So I had to check out Nora’s Diapers website. Every item is sold out!!! I love the look of these even though I am not a pocket diaper person. I really hope it’s a temporary thing with Covid. :(

I thought of using cloth diaper but for some reasons I never get to it. I will definitely try it out. Thanks for the info

What if you use a public laundry service? I can wash at home with an amazon washing system but need to dry at the local laundry mat, the dryers don’t have a sterilization option so is regular drying going to get rid of bacteria? Thanks

I know this video is 5 month old but it showed up on my feed and I decided to watch it since I cloth my baby.
Since people are coming to this video probably looking for information, there are 2 things you mentioned on your video that I felt I needed to add:
    1) you showed that you can place an insert on top of pocket diaper so its directly against the baby's skin and you showed this with a microfiber insert. Microfiber cannot go against a baby's skin as it can cause rashes by drying put baby's skin. Most diaper manufacturers do not recommend this and suggest that there be a barrier fabric between the baby's skin and a microfiber insert which is why pocket diapers are the ones that most commonly come with microfiber inserts.
    2) you mention that when you change your baby, if the pocket diaper does not feel soiled or wet, you remove the insert and reuse the pocket diaper with a new insert. While the cover may not feel soiled, urine has already passed through the barrier fabric and touched the elastic so its not very hygienic to reuse a pocket diaper after its been peed on. Covers are the ones that can be used for this as they can be wiped clean before being used again.
I know everyone does things different and I'm not trying to judge how you do things but I felt this may be necessary for someone thats new to cloth diapers to know.

I actually just re watched and saw you're using a bamboo insert so I stand corrected on saying you're using a microfiber insert.

Another pro is that cloth does not have the chemical stink that disposables have on the baby. I was afraid of my baby smelling, but it is actually way better with cloth

Is there an alternative stripping method other than washing 3 times back to back? Wouldn’t that jack up your electricity bill? Please advise, thank you!

    • @brianrietta
      @brianrietta Před 3 lety +2

Stripping should only be needed when you purchase second hand nappies or if there is a consistent problem with your wash routine. For instructions that are newer and science based I reccomend avoiding FLU like the plague and looking up "what to strip" on the clean cloth nappies website. You can do a strip wash using a sodium percarbonite booster in your machine for about an hour, there's no need for back to back washes for a strip wash, it is a waste of water and energy.
With your wash routine: the sun doesn't actually remove stains or issues, just hides them, and instead of using a wetbag for storage you'll have better results and cleaner nappies using an airy dry pail :)

Hi. What size do you recommend for a newborn? I'm about to have a baby soon and researching on cloth diapers. Thanks.

Please if you're using pocket diapers and your baby uses the diaper... change the whole diaper. So gross that she'd reuse that lol. If you wanna do that, use diaper covers, not pocket diapers.

When my baby was a newborn she would pee so little that the diaper would barely be soiled at all. As I explained in the video, when she was very small I would line the diaper rather than putting it in the pocket, meaning all that got a little wet was the liner and not at all the shell. It worked for me while she was little. When she was bigger and soiled more I would change the whole diaper.
