If you dremel the bottom of the existing hood scoops it opens them up just fine. There is a youtube video showing that according to a dyno that the stock airbox is better in HP and Torque than the S&B. So you can save yourself over $600 (S&B and hood scoop package) with just a little dremel work.

    • @jesusjuice7592

Thanks Larry. Doing some research it doesn't seem as though there is any added benefit to changing out the box. I was going to go with the scoops alone, figuring that it certainly can't hurt to suck in cooler air into the engine bay, and save the $400 on the box, but I'll try this first, and see if I can save another $200. If not, I'll order the scoops only.

Thanks for this upload. Its a very slick design configuration. I saw that there are scoop covers for possibly using during cold weather to contain under hood heat which is great. Im not sure if this is mentioned in the nomenclature, but what is the protocol for when it rains and the passenger side scoop is paired with the S&B cold air box? It seem that it would go in the vent (especially when at a rate of speed) and route down into the airbox.

Dust? Every filter I've changed had a dirty air box on the intake side. I've also never seen an air box that didn't have a drain hole in the bottom. I doubt either will be an issue.

  •  Před 4 lety +1

The cold air system has a lid on for a reason. 4×4 wheeling would have a more direct line to the air filter with dirt and dust wouldn't it? I like the idea but I'm not sure of the way it would preform in dirt. A car on a paved road yes but on a 4×4 in the dirt, I'm not convinced.
