  • In Namibia, more than half of the country’s rural population has no access to electricity. In many parts of the country, connecting households to the national grid is neither technically nor economically feasible. The lack of access to electricity remains one of the biggest challenges for the country’s sustainable development. The German-Namibian collaborative project “PROCEED”, coordinated by THI, examines options for using off-grid hybrid energy systems to establish an efficient and sustainable power supply in Namibia that is based on renewable sources of energy. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and forms part of the BMBF’s CLIENT II initiative.
