    Self-fulfilling Prophecy
When a person is labeled as something by being told again and again and again, by others or their own self, the label will get instilled and the person will grow into that exact label. Even if s/he is not even that to begin with.
This is important for educators when we want to produce positively-trait students.

This is also the reason why good role models are so vital to a healthy society, being able to see someone's example and emulate the traits you want to embody is the fastest way to develop new traits. And because you're learning by watching and then doing yourself, it will naturally have your own personal flair on whatever trait you are picking up. Making it a truly unique aspect of who you are.
The problem is that we don't really have good role models on the public scenes, and society has structured itself to rip apart parents and children through various things.

I really need to figure out who I am. I tend to just adopt the personality of any given person that I like at the moment, I start to put a ton of effort into making the choices that I think they would make. Even down to the music I listen to and how I carry myself.

I was taking a walk today near my residence and I noticed there were a couple of pigeons on the street and a bunch of litter, including two bags of bread pieces and some other empty bags and containers in the middle of the street. Even though it wasn't a busy street with a lot of cars, I was still concerned about the pigeons being on the street, seemingly lured by the litter. So I went and picked up the litter and threw them into nearby trash can and then also moved the two bags that had bread in it onto the sidewalk. 3 positive character traits: 1) I'm considerate and helpful; 2) I have initiative, don't need someone to tell me what needs to be done, 3) I'm intelligent, quickly found a solution to a problem and fixed it. I wouldn't have thought twice about it (yes, I ought to give myself more credit), but this exercise 2:45 enabled me to see what I'd normally take for granted.

Having been through CBT over the last year, and still on the meds this is the sort of thing that helped me the most, everyone should try it even if they don’t believe themselves to have issues as a preventative measure.

I feel really dumb asking this.... But i missed something.
    1. Daily write down something you are proud of you did.
    2. Find a list of characters traits.
    3. Pick 3 traits. Is this daily? Or 3 you want to enforce. 3 you want to be? 3 you identify with?
    4. Keep a tally. Is this if step 1 aligns with step 3. Or step 1 is stand alone. Are you tallying actions related to the traits. Tallying examples or actions through out the day.
This excersises does sound hard. I have been trying to work on establishing a better identity. An other help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    • @GeorgiaDow
      @GeorgiaDow  Před 2 lety +3

Start with just one thing you are proud of a day. Then do that for a few weeks. then what traits you think you have. I use a good traits list from good. start there and see it

Honestly, this video is something I should probably keep tabs on because my identity, especially in a professional environment, is something that I've struggled with off and on since the start of this year. It's not easy for me to deal with criticism, especially if it's said repeatedly and I continue to get angry over it. I also feel as if this plays into my mental health issues sometimes because whenever I think about a situation for too long, it starts to affect me in more ways than one. Thank you for this video, Georgia

There are truly people that have a hard time forming healthy relationships because they take on the identity of the people they are around or know. You become them literally and they operate like your actions should be the same as theirs. Anything you do as an individual is imitated and mocked OR CHALLENGED. It's proof that identifying with yourself is a sign of mental health. You are no one but YOURSELF, 24/7.

  • @cubanadiense

I feel like everything is fine with me including my defects (non physical), but my physicality is a huge block on the way to feel secure about myself. It impacts me hugely as I feel disrespected because of how I look, always finding myself in situations where ppl disrespect me. as well as I always end up betrayed for someone prettier /physically above my level, even by men who are less good -looking than me. It happens every time, whoever I want ends up wanting someone else with better physicality.
As I feel like this is just the hand that was dealt to me by life, I realize I might be stocked in a self-fulfilling prophecy due to feeling this way and can’t feel different about it even tho I have tried to internalize a different core belief. How do I overcome this?
I imagine this is connected to the fact that I was bullied for my body since very early childhood till even till adult years by a sibling. How do I deactivate this feeling of being less-than cause of my physicality?

I look for ways to help people. I'm Canadian, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone around here who thinks of a card carrying aboriginal as the "good guy". Since the first grade , guys were trying to beat on me simply because I'm native. Being respectful, I'd wait for the teachers to intervene. One day, five boys were punching and kicking me. Two teachers came around the corner, saw what was happening...and turned and walked away. The boys saw this as 'approval". I saw this as a statement that I wasn't viewed as a person and that I didn't matter. That I had no worth. I knew I had worth. So I knocked the five boys on their backs. I know who I am. Someday, others may see it.

could you do a video on what to do if your unattractive and how and why the opposite sex will all of a sudden be attracted to you. despite them telling you in more ways than one that your not good enough for them. for several decades.
