- Things to do in Depoe Bay - Whale Watching Capital of Oregon
Welcome everyone to Depoe Bay on the beautiful Oregon Coast. Kim and I are Oregonians and have been visiting Depoe Bay for decades. Come along as we show you some of our favorites sites and things to do in Depoe Bay.
Known as the “whale watching capital of the Oregon Coast”, Depoe Bay seems to draw whales to its horizon like clockwork every March through December. The town anticipates those migrations, with a Whale Watch Center, shore observation decks, and charter boats for an up-close view. Depoe Bay’s harbor is noteworthy for being the smallest natural navigable harbor in the world. During storms and turbulent seas, the area’s distinctive geological features result in a phenomena called a “spouting horn” where, much like a whale, the sea itself spouts a massive spray of water into the air above Main Street.

Looks beautiful. The bloopers were hilarious
😅. Thank you.
We love Depoe Bay. We need to find a way to spend more time there. It always seems to be a town we just pass through.
No doubt. They made the video.
You know, that is why a Depoe Bay video is needed! It seems like people go to more major attractions, and Newport, so some of the smaller towns do become just another town you're passing through.
@@kevinmcgauhey9813 agree. We have driven through a hundred time but never spent more than 20 minutes in town. We spend a few days and still didn’t get to experience everything.
Hope you enjoy our tour of Depoe Bay on the Oregon Coast. Feel free to comment and ask any questions. As locals we can answer it all
Having the girls there was the highlight
@@kimberlyrenfrow461 They kind of look like mini-Kims!
Wow.... Phenomenal ‼️‼️‼️‼️Your video's are always the best. You need a weekly tv show of your own....I love all the info and awesome sites you show.Nicely done as always ‼️😊👍👍👍👍
Much appreciated Raulia. Very kind of you to say.
Depoe Bay is my favorite Oregon Beach Town!!
Hi Rebecca. It is great isn’t it? Definitely doesn’t get much fanfare when you look up the Oregon Coast but we love it as well. Very charming little town.
Looks like a really nice beach town. Thank you for sharing.
Yes it is.
We stopped at Rocky Point & Newport but missed Depot Bay. Oregon has so much to see!
Yes it most definitely does
I remember Depoe Bay was only 2 hours out of Portland, so we used to go there a lot. I really miss those days!
I hear you there.
great video we are heading to the oregan coast for the first time in may
Awesome. If you need any tips just ask. We are Oregonians that have been traveling the coast for decades. Would be happy to help.
Enjoy all your OC videos! Great content!
Thank you Bryan. We are only a couple hours away so it’s a quick drive for us.
Looks awesome thanks for sharing 👍
You bet. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm going to explore Oregon this summer. I might have to include this on my list. 👍
It’s a nice little detour if you travel down the coast.
Thanks for another great video. I watched this over a bowl of clam chowder! I grew up in Oregon; (we lived in Ashland, Corvallis and Salem, and then I moved up to the Portland area). Our family went to the Coast quite often, and there were some amazing school field trips out there too. Anyone making travel plans in the West, I recommend travel to the Pacific Northwest FOR SURE, and definitely spend time on the Oregon Coast! I well remember Depoe Bay, including that Taffy shop! I have a vivid memory of tide pooling somewhere at low tide, including the moment when our teacher reached down and pulled up an octopus. I wish I could remember where that was. Was it Depoe Bay? Hmmm.
Thanks for the great response Kevin. Kim and I talk about moving all the time but the coast keeps us here. 😀
@@adventuresofjandk It's true, that is reason enough to stay in the area!
Can you please tell me what "beach/ cove" you were at -- where you needed the rope to hike down to the water's edge ... It was gorgeous ... I would love the name of that
beach ... Can you tell us where it is located in relation to either Depoe Bay or Newport -- please. I enjoy your videos. Thanks !
Hi Jeff. Would be happy to. It’s called scenic park and is really easy to find as Depoe Bay is so small.
Looks like a beautiful place to adventure. Have you had any more issues with your lance?
Hi Diana. Great to hear from you again. Nothing of note. Just basic maintenance issues which of course is common. We are currently in it this weekend for the first time in about 4 months. 😀
Well I want you to know you just made my whole evening it does my heart good to see depoe Bay again in that area I am bedridden at this time with a broken back and this just lighten my heart so much I miss working so bad I am currently in South Carolina just lost my mom too 😎🤠
Hi Philip. So sorry to hear about your mother and your injury. I am glad we could make your day a little brighter. All the best.
I did live in Portland Oregon for proximately 50 years so I know the coast very well I used to try to spend every other weekend at the beach it need tarts Tillamook especially and depoe Bay in the storms I was definitely a storm watcher I crabbed and fished Victorian Coast on a beautiful day just absolutely stunning it takes your breath away I've been gone from Oregon since 2014 shortly after my father died all I can say is I need your prayers this has been very hard thank you for responding 🤠😎
@@phillipjgustafson9792 Hi Philip. Thanks for sharing those great memories. Really sorry to hear about your more recent struggles. We are wishing you all the best and you will definitely be in our prayers. God Bless.
After lunch you can take a trip out on the ocean in a fishing boat and feed the fish.
We have talked about doing that a number of times.
@@adventuresofjandk I have a cousin in South Beach. I used to visit the area quite often. I remember the Kite shop and a Big spiral windsock. I haven't been there in 30 years.
@@jimholmes2555 probably hasn’t changed too much Jim. Nice thing about these small coastal towns. Seem the same after decades.
At 6::00 into video where is rope climb located?
Thanks Donald.
It saddens me to see everyone with a face diaper on. I hope we don't have to do that again for a long time if ever.
I’m with you on that. Luckily those days appear to be long gone.
While this video is good for tourism, please stop spreading how beautiful it is.
It will ruin this town, trust me
I know!
The locals will be forced out because they were invaded by the rich.
It's just not worth it!!!
Thanks. We’ll keep that in mind.
