(not to big myself up or anything) But I would be considered a very competent whistle player so I know what I'm looking at here...This guy is at Jedi skills level! .Sean sa Ceo is a tricky song to play on the whistle but to do it at that speed and with the variation he throws in is just mind blowing. You can even hear some guy in the audience after 0:28 (who I imagine is another whistler) gasp at the brilliance of the drop cuts he throws in. Amazing whistle playing!
Snap. Vinnie's version of Sean sa Cheo on whistle is the best i ever heard - i only discovered it ironically because it linked from my recording of the same tune. Having said that i think he accidentally goes into the A part of the Merry Sisters of Fate instead of the part he meant to go into at 0:48. Oh rats. That means if it sticks in my head, i'm liable to do the same...
Mighty playing from Vinnie Kilduff. When it comes to the tin whistle, he really is the master. He is the daddy of them all. The first tune, Sean Sa Cheo, is in many ways, a different version of Jenny's chickens. The second tune is called The Shepherds daughter.
Thanks for this video. I'm learning this on tin whistle and don't even come close to sounding like this. I have a long way to go. But now I now how it should sound.
I admire clean playing at speed, only sometimes, because of the dedication and skill it takes, but at some point speed subtracts from the feel and possibility of the music, and can undermine it, and I would suggest the feel of the music must always rate as highest priority. A musician has two jobs: entertain yourself and communicate music to others.
This is more of a show piece I guess. He can play quite beautifully at slow speed. But I don't think a piece has to be slow to evoke feeling. czcams.com/video/X17HLvE7MWY/video.html
Brilliant musicianship but he's playing the reel too fast. I've been playing Irish music since I was 9 years old and I can't understand the fascination with most musicians playing reels at extreme tempo.
genuinely brought me to tears, bloody fucking brilliant
This Celtic whistle reel is very beautiful! Like from Romania!
Excellent , Vinnie..
That's how it's done..🥇

I agree 100%. Jedi skills indeed!
I am at Ewok level. Got to start somewhere.

It's more like, what is the fascination with dancing at such an extreme tempo. Would people dance reels this fast?
Too slow
