My guest today is economist and podcaster Glenn Loury, whose new memoir is titled "Late Admissions: Confessions of a Black Conservative". Born in 1948 and raised working-class in Chicago's predominantly African American South Side, Loury tells a story of self-invention, ambition, hard work, addiction, and redemption that channels Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography, Richard Wright's Native Son, Saul Bellow's The Adventures of Augie March, and Milton Friedman's Capitalism & Freedom. The first tenured black economist at Harvard, Loury emerged in the 1980s as a ubiquitous commenter on race and class and was offered a post in the Reagan administration. Then a series of scandals involving affairs, arrests, and addiction threatened the end of his personal and professional lives. Late Admissions is an unflinching look at Loury's failures and successes, written by one of the most popular academic presences on CZcams.

Great interview and I always enjoy Dr. Loury’s conversations. I have been looking forward to the release of his memoir and got a copy for my dad for Father’s Day.

Always a treat to have Nick interview anyone, but I love Mr Loury - been watching his clips with John Mc Whortor (sp?) and enjoying it immensely.

Long time listener of his podcast. He and John McWhorter have together played a not insubstantial part in my recent shift from center-left libertarian to center-right.

@@jacobstamm the myth of left and right. It is a recent book, the authors have given interviews on CZcams. If you are acting in good faith you'll probably agree. In the popular consciousness it is meaningless.

But professional economists cannot say that accounting/finance should have been mandatory in high schools since Sputnik.
Even though Adam Smith wrote "read, write and *account* " multiple times in Wealth of Nations. That book is free on the Internet. Search it for yourself.
Oh yeah, Adam Smith and Karl Marx never saw a Planned Obsolescence Economy. The depreciation of durable consumer garbage is not relevant to modern economics either.

Brilliant mind and with allllll going on the country, outside of the country (St Peters...) on the brink of WIII, live streaming a genocide, etc, et al. And yet THE #1 issue of Black scholars is critiquing Black ppl. With this trope of being an outlier.... feigning as though mavericks, when "Black Conservative" is NOT a new thing and has a long legacy.

1 of 2: *This is how you always need to vote:*
We must fully resist and _always vote_ against (& less authoritarian than) both the Republican *and* Democratic Parties- including all of the squad, Bernie Sanders, Edward Markey, the justice democrats, & all other democrats.
For _all_ public positions. And this same strategy applies against the same one or more party-monopolies in _all_ countries worldwide.
Real progressives will never be Democratic Members or Democratic loyalists. Never vote for _any_ Republican member or loyalist either.
You can always _write-in_ an anti-authoritarian person if no candidates for a position fit that bill. This will continuously reduce the power of _all_ authoritarian parties in the party monopolies. Until our task is complete.
Repeat strategy for all new authoritarian parties that emerge.
