    Had the exact same thing happen to me, had an alignment done and the car drives straight and perfect but the steering wheel is crooked. About to center the steering wheel and see how it goes, did centering the steering wheel affect the clock spring mechanism (where the switches behind the steering wheel is) at all?

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  Před měsícem

      Good thought but no it has not affected it at all. I'd have to look at the diagram to see if it would have an effect on it but with the small adjustment we made, it works fine.

      Next will be full Diffs, transfer case, and transmission oil change. Then after that CV Axles.

    Hi, thank you for these videos, it's so hard to find good 2nd gen content. You said you did all the steering components at the same time. I have a 94 4WD with 210K miles and all original parts. I want to replace all the components as well. Any tips regarding order that will make the job easier? I'm thinking relay rod or steering damper? Thanks!

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Our pleasure, if I were to do it again, I would do control arm bushings, ball joints, shocks. Then idler arm, pitman arm, tie rods (get an alignment done after this), then steering damper and if need be, straighten the steering wheel.

    At 7:20, do you know what the button at the far left is for? The button right below the vent, to the left of the red light.

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That's the clutch cancel button. Pressing that overrides the clutch pedal sensor and allows you to start the vehicle without pressing in the clutch pedal. Some folks have mentioned that in gear, they have used that button to move the vehicle using the starter although I have never tried it.

    Hi! How much did the steering play improve after this? Is there a way of knowing if my pitman arm is loose? I have a 91 ...

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  Před rokem

      To test it I imagine you could free it from the cross bar and try to wiggle the end of it. I did the steering components at the same time so I couldn't tell you if the pitman arm specifically tightened anything up.

    Would you say the parts you select are near OEM quality? I try to to always use Toyota parts but sometimes they’re hard to find to very expensive. I need to do a bunch of front end suspension work and steering work.

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      I wouldn't say they are as good no. A lot of the parts i'm pretty sure are made in China. Most of the parts I use are ACDelco or Moog and I figure I run a high chance of beating them up offroad.

      @@roughcutsgarage ok thx for input. I have a 2WD daily driver that doesn’t leave pavement so I think non-OEM will have to work for some parts.

      The knuckle in the arm was worn out causing sloppy steering. We swapped it out with a new arm.

    Should have taken it for a wheel alignment. Next time you go for new tyres and wheel alignment, your steering wheel will be out again.

    • @roughcutsgarage
      @roughcutsgarage  Před 3 měsíci

      Haha funny you should mention that. Not sure if the previous guys did a proper wheel alignment because they were the ones that knocked it out of alignment in the first place.
