Bottle gourds are also good food when they’re young and fleshy. It’s got a spongy texture and a very mild, zucchini-like flavor. Excellent for soup. The leaves, shoots, and tendrils are edible when young as well, and the seeds can be roasted and eaten like most other squash or melon seeds.
    Definitely a versatile plant.

The way it has been done for thousands of years is to let it dry for approx 1-3 months until its hard, cut it open and clean it out (with a stick like in this video or my preferred method - tumbling a couple handfuls of rocks inside), then (frustratingly not shown in the video) seal the inside with wax. Preferably beeswax but any food grade wax will do, prehistoric people even used animal fat. You should not be drinking out of a gourd that hasn't been properly cleaned and sealed unless you wanna spend a couple days switching from vomiting to diarrhea and back.

    • @claritey

No, there's no credible evidence this was ever a thing. It's just a fun but false urban legend. The earliest mention of Cleopatra's bee powered vibrator anyone can find anywhere is in a book from 1992 by Brenda Love called _The Encyclopedia of Unusual Sex Practices_ which cites no sources for this claim. No citations and no previous mention in history suggests she may have simply made up the story to spice up her book.
Futhermore, the idea that Cleopatra was weirdly highly sexual in the first place is rooted in Roman propaganda meant to slander her. Then there were some poorly forged "ancient" letters from the early 1600s and fictional stories and poems from the 1800s that told of her having orgies with hundreds of men and inviting anyone to have sex with her provided they be executed in the morning that added to her mythos. From there the story was wildly embellished upon by modern media and so today we have the urban legend of Cleopatra "the Powerful and Irresistible Femme Fatale Nymphomaniac," Queen of Egypt.
Here is an article that goes much more in depth for those interested in the particulars of how and why she was portrayed this way including a whole section about the bee vibrator.

I hung some up in a closet and then my garage and they did well. Got some spotting but i think they're still good. Definitely leaving them in the elements will cause them to decompose (as they do in nature because you're leaving them out in nature). Keep them in as dry and cool a place as possible.

No worries. When ready to harvest...I bring them into a cool dry place and let them dry naturally. Expect a few spots and some occasional thin walled spots. Letting them do their natural journey will provide the best results. Climate is a factor and should be considered. Thanks for watching!.

After getting the seeds out, put some small rocks inside and shake around for a few minutes. They will knock loose any bits inside that you couldn't scrape away. You can also pour some hot bees wax and swish it around and pour it out to make a thin layer of wax inside. Just don't pour any hot liquids inside.
