Hey Zoe! I love your transparency and am so proud of your financial achievements!! You're incredible!
It looks like your RRSP and TFSA projections are about 5.5%-6.15%. For an RRSP that isn't bad, but for your TFSA you could just invest directly into the S&P500 and make a 10%+ average annual return. Unless your risk tolerance is really low (generally more for elderly people approaching retirement), you can get higher returns on that account by managing it yourself or changing your risk tolerance.
Managed accounts eat away at your returns with fees over time, so something important to consider over time.

Hey Zoe, unless you think you think your earning potential doesn't have much higher to go, you should be prioritizing your TFSA over your RRSP. RRSP contribution room will carry over, and you should contribute when you have higher income to bring your taxable income down, versus contributing to your TFSA which will not give you this benefit with higher income.

Dont know if you know this but in Canada you can also use your RRSP as a downpayment for a home if you're a first time homebuyer. You can take out up to 30k. The catch is that you have to "pay it back" in 15 years so you won't get taxed on it.
Me and wife did this and it was a simple process.

Great job on being able to save and invest so much! Just a question, have you considered doing self-directed investing? Idk if Wealthsimple has really high fees or if the fund they have you in is just very conservative but I punched in your numbers for the TFSA (it seemed really low to me) and based on market returns from 2021-2024 you should have about $8,500 today not $7k. And that was the calculation without any additional contributions so it would be even higher in reality... might be worth looking into doing self-directed and putting your money into etfs instead

Zoe what you've accomplished is great - I urge you to reconsider your position on individual stocks. Consider if you were going to purchase an entire business, there's a huge list of due diligence you would do first. Stocks have to be treated the same way. Because they are in fact the same, you're buying a business. They are not a gamble or a matter of timing the market, unless you fail to do fundamental analysis and/or you have a short term time horizon. It's fine if index funds are easier for you but too many people think stock picking is a gamble because they don't realize the amount of due diligence that is required. Reading 10Q's, balance sheets, listening to earnings calls, learning sector specific KPI's, and on and on and on. That's the difference between a stock being a gamble and an investment. If your time horizon is 5 to 10 years then timing in the short term doesn't matter, hence the phrase "time in the market is better than timing the market" - all that said, nothing wrong with just sticking to index funds if that's your comfort zone!

    Well this is pretty interesting.
I think being debt-free is pretty psychologically boosting, and money goals are supposed to be emotional anyways, but personally to me it depends on interest. Like below 4% interest debt is low enough to not bother me and almost gets cancelled out by inflation anyways.
Stock picking is gambling I agree, you cannot beat funds or ETFs that track the international market unless you're a genius and I'm definitely not, so I just invest in one of those funds/ETFs.
Crypto is an interesting but dangerous thing. If even 5% of your total assets is crypto it can make your whole portfolio significantly more volatile, and it just makes your whole life unstable if it's ever 10% or more of your portfolio.
Feels like the most educated finance people I listen to are Canadian (Moneyscope podcast/rational reminder podcast, Plain Bagel, etc.) and I'm not even Canadian so half of their accounts they talk about I don't even understand haha.

I get what you're saying about not having your net worth tied to your self worth but it should more looked at as "my net worth is equivalent to the amount of freedom I have."

@@angelicabrewer3711 You can make more money than a regular 9-5 but it doesn't provide more freedom. If anything, it requires more work and time than a 9-5 in a lot of cases. More assets will provide you with more freedom. Not multiple clients.

Does anyone live in Belgium and know an equivalent of the RRSP where you can invest with a tax advantage?

    • @CocoLicious
      @CocoLicious Před 4 měsíci +1

I don't know about Belgium, but here in Germany you have a tax free amount on gains. That means that accumulative funds are more interesting if you want to invest long term because they re-invest the money and you only have to pay very reduced taxes on your dividends - for example, my husband and I made around 1000 EUR in dividends last year and that only counts as 50 EUR of gains because our accounts are cumulative. We would have to pay tax if the gains were over 2000 EUR. (All accounts combined)

@@lorenam8062 Agreed! I tried to look on reddit (there's some Belgian investment subreddit) but it's mostly these "finance bros" and I don't understand anything they're saying lol! I do know you can declare your dividends in your tax return so that you get your taxes on dividends back (until a certain amount). But I don't know any arrangements like that for when you buy ETF's for example. I heard on a Dutch podcast that you can see how much "vrije ruimte" you have left for your retirement investments and then you can supposedly invest that amount yourself without taxes, but I'm not sure if that exists in Belgium as well... Hopefully this will become more of a mainstream topic and we'll have some more information :)

@@CocoLicious Thank you! Yes now that I'm thinking about it, you can get your tax money from dividends back in Belgium to a certain extent. However I'm not sure if there's something like that for the tax you pay on purchasing and selling ETFs for example.

Managed and individual stocks. Great video at young age you look like you're going to be successful. But I would stay clear of managed funds and picking individual stocks. Terrible chargers an individual stocks is more like gambling
