This was the blue Java one. It’s no where near fruiting this year and will die back to ground over winter. All way too big and far from house to try to overwinter
I don’t know if it’s true or not but from watching banana videos today it seems like the trees fruit ones and then die. But they send up “pups” that replace the plant for the next year
Right, but he didn’t cut this one because it already produced fruit but to save it from dying in the winter. It will come back and still go on to produce fruit if it survives the winter, next year.
Why is he a dummy?! He cut it to save it from the cold in winter, which can be done if it hasn’t yet produced fruit yet which will come back and go on to still grow more later on if it survives the cold. And you’re supposed to cut them after they do fruit so they will pop up more pups on the bottom from its roots and keep on producing more to keep growing more fruit. He’s not dumb for keeping his plants alive and knowing what should be done with them and doing them.
Just posted a video on this. I’ve got the veinte cohol in a trash can indoors for the winter. Should be about 4 feet tall in spring. Definitely will fruit
I cut down my young (ish, it was very sick and got it from a nursery. It has 3 leaves and a fourth one was emerging) banana tree. Will I be able to make two plants out of it? I know it regrows, but can the top plant root?
Unfortunately no. If you don’t see any roots on the top part, then it won’t grow back. If you cut it close down to soil and get a small part of the roots, then it will. But if you cut it like I cut mine, it will not grow back from the top part
@@flarethefox9836 you can either compost it somewhere or cut it up into small pieces and use as mulch. It will break down quickly and return nutrients to the soil

That’s part of the reason I cut this one town. It was only this tall and we were close to winter where it was going to die. So I chopped it down to have fun rather than the slow death by winter
I have a question, I cut down a banana plant after it gave bananas.the question is...my banana stump grew a plant from the middle. Will that plant grow bananas?
Yes! After you cut down a banana tree after it fruits, the center will rise and the process starts all over again! :) banana trees grow up to 8-16 feet in one growing season

lol
why did you cut it 😭

for everyone who dont know, banana only fruit once. if u see a banana tree fruits many times, actually it is from the new sprout. not the parent tree

Are you going to do a video on how to prepare your banana trees for the winter?
Yes. I plan on building small greenhouses around them in next couple weeks
Will also address some other ideas as well

Good compost material.

Idk why but like i love banana trees
Did you used that leaves to make tamales right ? Or you waste them
You can definitely use them. I just added these as compost to my soil
Coconut rice wrapped on chunk of ripe banana. Leaf wrap and grill. Reason I planted....😊
Tamales use corn husk...
Why did you cut it down?😮
If someone asks you to use the leaves for tamales...don't reply, they tell you that you can save toilet paper if..
I've heard blue javas take almost a full year to ripen. Only reason I haven't tried that variety.
The heart of the tree is apparently edible and used in Chinese cuisine
So it will grow back or have to rely on the pups now?

Can you replant after you cut it like that or can u go through a process to do so or is it just not possible
There are 3 suckers coming up if you look closely. Could pull two out and replant and leave 1 to grow back.
Why did you cut the banana tree? 😭

Cutting it off actually dwarfs the tree
If it hasn’t flowered, it can. But I did out to the roots and let a new pup takes it place for next year
you are strong
90 pounds is very light

Will it grow back to its original size?
Yes! Every year and they grow even faster
Keep free arm firmly behind back when cutting. I saw that on t.v.
