Don’t get scammed yall! I’m just trying to help 😂 I also dont think I went too deep into it but just because someone is selling a splashy NOID hoya doesn’t mean its a wilbur or something fancy! Hope y’all enjoyed or learned something!! 💚💚
Preach! 👏🏼👏🏼 Wilbur graves is beautiful, no doubt but it’s JUST as pretty as a splashy carnosa or pubicalyx. And if you can’t really tell the difference, what’s the point? 🌝
I’ve definitely spent a pretty penny on certain Hoyas that I personally found worth it, but Hoya prices are seriously crazy right now. As much as I’d love to grow some of the more hard to find/rare Hoyas, I just can’t justify their price tag. Thanks for giving some great options in this video! I definitely want to try and find a few you spoke about.
I’m tooting my own horn when it comes to Hoya. I love the “dinner plate” varieties which are soooooo much more striking than splashy, ghosty or whatever the fad of the day is. Give me a glabra, latifolia or even Golden Eye or Viola over anything splashy
OMG!!! I had this exact conversation about my pubicalyx the other day on one of my local plant pages!! I got it for $10 and it has super fun strikingly splashy leaves and several people told me it looked like a wilbur! So funny!
Yes your video makes us keep an open mind when buying splashy or variegated hoyas or plants in general...the variegation or splashiness sometimes revert back to the original green ...and this is because sometimes they are not stable, sometimes they need more light and exposure...knowing this, like you, I'm not too interested in variegations because it's harder to check for pests like mealy bugs and others that are camouflaged in the splashy leaves...also when they flower, it's a better contrast on a green leaves than variegated leaves....it looks more stunning as it doesn't compete with the variegations....
Aaah you are so right!!! Been thinking a lot why Wilbur graves soo expensive 🤷♀️ And I am so agree again about krohniana and lacunosa snow caps, which I recently bought (because they are within my budget) I am so in love with them..they are so cute ❤️❤️ Never get tired see them at my plant shelves 😄
i got a giant pubicalyx splash my first hoya for $21 at a local store :) i went to a bunch of local stores and it took me a while to find a hoya but i’m glad i got it it’s a big boy and was very much worth it. it’s so beautiful xx
I used to collect hoyas actively. Then those people who just want to collect just because went crazy and everything went over-priced and this movement really turned me off. Those people don’t even care that Hoyas actually bloom and.... no matter what the leaves look like, the blooms are the same. 🤷🏻♂️ and those people spend HUNDREDS of dollars... I thought we are in financial crisis? 🤷🏻♂️ apparently not.
Iu just started w hoyas again. I'd given up on them . Killed my first 5 attempts. A gift got me started again. Ha. 8 different hoyas in 5 months and not one leaf lost. That's why I am kinda stalking your CZcams channel. 😂. Splashy obovata is now on my list. Loving the non splashy obovata too much to not get a splashy one too. 🌱❤️ Thanks
I almost purchased wilbur graves that had wrong ID, twice from different sellers. Good thing i googled and found out those plants were not wilbur graves.
Well said! I agree 100%. Aside from the fact that I am not really big on splash, anyway, Especially the solid type. All that being said and discarded, you left out one of my faves. As a person who "specializes" in small leaved Hoya, I have to recommend Hoya parviflora. Really gorgeous little thing, grows like a weed, not fussy. Keep up the good work.
I know I'm a bit late to the party since you made this video a year ago, likely when the Wilbur Graves was even more expensive! But now it seems a bit better than it was, I mean yes there are Definitely still people trying to sell 1 or 2 leaf cuttings for $150-$200 (on Etsy mostly) but here in Canada I just got my Wilbur Graves cutting and my New Guinea Ghost cutting for $60 each, and I got them locally which is great! :) I totally understand what you're saying though. If you're not 100% sure what to look for it's easy to get scammed. I also have the Lacunosa Super Silver, and the Sigillatis which I love! I also want to add that another option that is not only great but absolutely beautiful, is the Crassiopetiolata Splash! Stunning leaves, a bit on the expensive side, but if you look around a bit you can get some affordable cuttings here 🥰
Lolllll Im just trying to get a PSA out there that people dont even know what theyre selling sometimes and people are buying them for expensive just bc theyre splashy 😂💚
Really feel u! But I have to say I bought a hoya mathilde splash. And I'm very happy to have some splashy hoya soon! But in the end. I won't buy like 3 different splash variaties of the same plant. Not my thing. Also I love plants but I hope ppl buy them bc they love them too and not bc of the "hype" that would be a waste of money. At least in my opinion🥺💕
Ok not related to this video but I am traveling to Houston next month. Can you please please recommend a plant shop I cam visit so that I may purchase some plants. You mentioned in one of your videos that houston is a planty city and I haven’t forgotten! Thank you in advance!!!!
You know things are getting out of hand some are taking advantage and making plant shopping a terrible experience. Funny I m currently looking for Hoyas. 👍🏻
Idk people should do their research period before buying any pricey plant, period. There are so many Hoyas that some people have called the same plant different names. Philodendron, Anthurium are both plant species that I’ve seen people buy a plant as one thing and it winds up being something very different. I have an adverse on to spending triple digits on pretty much anything but definitely on plants. Plants can die within a week. Sometimes it’s what we do, sometimes it was shipping and sometimes it just don’t love it’s environment. I always hope though that people spend their money on the things that make them happy.
The only reason I buy expensive Hoyas is to make money in the long run by selling cuttings. I spent $400 on a Hoya Silver Dollar, which is a lot, but I’ll easily make that back in a couple of months.
I mean if someone wants a hoya in that price they want THAT hoya not something splashy or similar. its like telling ppl to dont get a monstera that cuz the albo is cheaper
I really want a side by side of a full grown Hoya pubicalyx and a Hoya pubicalyx splash or grey side by side. Bc I highly doubt there’s a difference so noticeable it’s worth tripling the price. Like all variegated plants some leafs revert some don’t or some are super variegated so in the end a full grown plant will be similar. But maybe I’m wrong. I haven’t seen it and I want to.
I want a Hoya Wilbur graves but I do also own a super splashy pubicalx that’s posted on my IG so bc of that I know what I’m looking for and I’m not going to buy one that isn’t super splashy like I said I won’t waste my money on it if it’s not totally worth it and yes my super silver is EVERYTHING TOO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT ONE TOO!! Super amazing 🤩
Wilbur Graves is a BEAUTIFUL plant and is quite different than a pubicalyx, but sadly I have seen pubicalyx sold as WG on Facebook and Etsy, when it’s clearly not because the leaf shape is long and slim... which is a dead giveaway for a pubicalyx. Wilbur Graves are shorter and rounder leaves.
Oh yeah I think buying if youve researched and found reputable sellers its great! I do hope that the splashy no id/pubicalyx sellers can stop trying to scam people because I think they’re devaluing the actual wilbur graves plant. Im hoping this video can serve as research to people deciding whether or not buying one is actually worth it! My opinion right now is to avoid and save for cooler things 💚
@@LessyasLeaves I guess agree even though I have Wilburs 😂 however! I do think that the pubicalyx wilbur graves situation really started from the sale of the Carnosa NOID splashes that were originally being sold as Wilbur Graves. I really do like my Wilbur graves and NOIDS, but wouldn't make the mistake to buy one again because the splash is very fickle. I LOVE my Mathilde Splash though, its been pretty stable on some vines, but it does revert on others.
Don’t get scammed yall! I’m just trying to help 😂 I also dont think I went too deep into it but just because someone is selling a splashy NOID hoya doesn’t mean its a wilbur or something fancy! Hope y’all enjoyed or learned something!! 💚💚

Call me crazy, but I swear certain varieties of “silver” Hoya just look moldy to me 🤭😵 My Pubicalyx splash is prettier! Lol great video 😘
LOL!! I might not be able to unsee that now 😂
Haha undulata looks like sick seedweed to me

I have three Wilbur Graves, and they grow like weeds! I adore them!

That splashy obovata definitely knocks it out of the park!!
Yes!!! I need one of those! 💚💚
I LOVE Hoya. I’ve never heard, or seen any of those for sale? Do you have a special place that carries them, secret to the rest of us?💚🙃
I mostly get mine from facebook group sellers! 🥺💚
You can also get them from planthestudio I get most of them from there (: 10/10 recommend they restock every Saturday
Yes! if you watch through my unboxings playlist you can see from where I buy!

It’s true. So many sellers sold pubicalyix saying it was the royal Hawaiian version. You can’t tell until it blooms. And so many got scammed.
Yes we need to stop blindly trusting people!
I have missed your videos. This video was great. Keep smiling ❤🌿
Thank you so much! 💚💚💚

My splashy hate comes from jealousy too :) Wish I could have some of that splash!
Lol yes!
The Nova Ghost you showed is actually a Grey Ghost. 😇

Ive seen it a lot lately!! 😩

The silver dollar looks beautiful 💖

I did NOT think you could be any cuter than you are.. and then you made a blooper reel in chipmunk 🐿

Thank you for another informative video.
You are absolutely adorable and also pretty well versed in Hoya...
You know things are getting out of hand some are taking advantage and making plant shopping a terrible experience. Funny I m currently looking for Hoyas. 👍🏻
For sure so many scammers out there! And people reselling plants under incorrect names they bought them under 🤷🏻♀️
Love your set up today! Did you get a new camera? So high quality!
Thank you!!! This is a different lens than I usually use but I did get some soft box lights too so maybe thats it! 🥰🥰🥰
When you said you can find the lacunosa snow caps at HD or Lowe’s 😂😭 california don’t get em, been looking for one forever
Wow!
Love your videos, stay awesome😊
Thank you!! 💚💚
I'm so sorry that you showed me the Hoya silver dollar. So sorry, especially after you said that it was expensive.

I really don’t understand the hype behind the Wilbur Graves 😅 As well as the hoya freckles, stardust, & sprinkles. They all look the same 😆
Yes totally!!
I have an oblate but it has black spots on back of leaves. Help ,me please
I wish I’d seen this video before I bought two Wilbur graces 😂 and a mathilde splash
I 100% agree that splash is overrated ESPECIALLY with the wilbur Grave
💯
You are so frucking cute ! I love the way you talk
Is a Hoya obovata pink splash a thing or is it a silver splash that gets brighter light?
Pink splash is just regular splash in higher light 💚
