    I’m thinking that she needs to have an animal fake dead and then the video is a murder mystery where she goes around interviewing the animals for their alibis (with the tiny mic of course) and then it ends with a wholesome ending where the animal was actually just napping or something

    24:35 i listen to all three podcast (and enjoy all of them) i would say
    the yard is full of funny bits and jokes but i don't think i ever remember what topics they talked about and they flow in and out of topics constantly but smoothly
    Fear& gives me whiplash (in a funny way but still) jumping from one topic to another and more like someone presents a topic and the others chime in which often leads to funny reactions
    Wine about it feels like an *actual* conversation (probably because there's 2 and not 4 speaking) and almost always topics I personally like or even want to share my opinion on
    Tldr u guys are all doing a great job but just have different strengths and vibes

    • @bibubbletea
      @bibubbletea Před 3 měsíci +3

      Definitely agree, they all have different vibes and that’s what make them special.
      To me personally, Fear & is more snappy like a hangout sesh with friends where everyone is on their A game, The Yard is more polished to the point that sometimes it feels more like a comedy show or a tv comedy, and Wine About It comes across like a sleepover where they’re more earnest and get into deeper topics but sometimes hit on really funny jokes that almost feel like inside jokes

    1) Maya is right, Brazilian folklore is believed depending where you live or grew up. There's DEFINITELY people who truly believe in folklore, ESPECIALLY if they grew up closer to nature like lots of people in the Amazonas state where she was.
    2) Backwards feet character is Curupira - protects nature and harms those who hurt it. Not sure if he's the knock-on-wood one though because I've never heard of that.

  • @whschopke98
    @whschopke98 Před 3 měsíci +15

    Maya is picking up on Brazilian folklore and I’m here for it let’s gooo!!!
    The backwards feet guy is called Curupira, and the lore is that he is a protector of the jungle and the animals so he lures poachers then makes them get lost chasing the nonsensical trail he left behind.
    The pink dolphin is called “boto cor de rosa” and that’s pretty much on point, he seduces young indigenous women at night.
    These are indigenous folklore to be precise, so just like the US is a huge country colonized, so is Brazil and these stories are mostly just known as folklore

    to answer mayas question about the cannabis leaf, no, eating a leaf will not have any effect on you, it doesnt have any "trichomes" (tiiiny sticky resin tipped sticks). Eating a cannabis bud will also not have a psychoactive effect despite having the trichomes - you specifically need to heat the trichomes in order to turn the resin into stuff that can get you high

      Well some leaves have trichomes when they are near buds, they are called “sugar leaves” ,so it can have an effect on small animals like dogs, who can decarb inside of themselves and get high from it, so be careful if you ever bring your pup around a plant while budding! But yeah, in people it has no real effect.

    For anyone wondering, Zyns are actually covered in a menthol layer, which basically burns away the upper layer of your skin in your gums, so the nicotine can be absorbed. It would probably also be absorbed without the menthol, but that way it works faster and more effective. And also the menthol covers the pretty bad taste of the pouch itself.

    • @naterocks96
      @naterocks96 Před 3 měsíci

      It is not meant to damage you, and doesn't. This was a myth with dip/chew too. Someone saw the sugar or salt glistening in dip, and started a rumor about fiber glass. Your body rejects foreign objects (like nicotine) when it's injured, so micro cuts on your gums does not make sense. Your mouth just absorbs that stuff better, because it's your mouth. And you swallow your spit with Zyn, and dip too, even if you spit. So it was probably something people started saying, to scare people from getting into tobacco

    As a listener of both podcasts and a patreon of Fear &, Will and Fear & does definitely speed through topics but I do truly love both for some reason. I don’t think it comes across repetitive to me even though I often go back to relisten to episodes, because it’s pretty snappy and covers a lot of topics. Every once in a while, the speed will come across as too jarring, like this last week’s episode where a bunch of topics were raised for a minute or two and then everyone moved on, but it’s usually not bad. I think the patreon episodes linger more on topics than the regular ones. But I remember more about Wine About It episodes because they aren’t as rushed and you two are more in-sync

    Maya is probably talking about the decades of rumors of chewing tobacco putting fiberglass into the product to cut up the mouth and help absorption. Something to do with how it can feel abrasive in the mouth (honestly. There's no part of dip that sounds appealing). This is not a real thing, though, the fact that it's kinda believable says something haha.
    I've heard it said that tobacco tends to cause cuts anyway, even without fiberglass. But I don't know. Either way, that's where it comes from.

    To be fair, one-on-one conversations are much more manageable than group discussions. That being said, QT is absolutely right. On "Fear&", they attempt to come up with topics, but the conversation feels forced as everyone ends up delivering a lecture on their chosen subject. The occasional "what did you do last week" chats are far more engaging. Recently, we've seen QT alongside Will on the night show and with Austin on the WAI, where they effortlessly bounce off each other. So, I believe the issue on "Fear&" lies in how Hasan and Will assume the role of managers, quizzing others about their topics and then arguing over whose topics are superior. Hasan's attempts to introduce topics like Taylor Swift or popular culture, hoping QT can contribute, can sometimes come off as condescending. Your lives are interesting enough; just talk about that. For instance, I don't recall QT discussing her identity theft on "Fear&". It's been mentioned briefly after the fact, but QT hasn't shared the full story or any aspect of it.
    Anyway, apologies for the lengthy comment.

      QT is like the mom who hears the boy's rough housing and having fun together in the basement and decideds that she is going to join in. The second she does though, the boy's stop having fun the way they would together and start acting the way they need to around "mom" no matter how much mom wants to be one of the boy's and join in the fun she can't and she shouldn't. Fear & is really a guy's podcast, just as much as wine about it is a women's podcast. Maya, I don’t think you need to be an expert to be a good science communicator. Often experts make poor communicators because they forget what the average person does and doesn’t know. Brady, for example, from numberphile, sixty symbols, and all his other channels is great at science communication despite not being an expert because he has an uncanny ability to ask the questions his audience is thinking.

      Brady is such a good nmberfile hoast because he asks every question that i want to ask at the time that i think about them. I can completely follow the conversation because Bradey asks these down to earth every-man questions.

      @@Elijah-eg1xt I completely agree. He’s proof that you don’t need to be an expert to be a good science communicator.

    As a photographer, I have to say that the royal family photo really ain't that weird. It's super common with photos of multiple people that you HAVE to edit them. Not everyone smiles at the same time, someone blinks, someone looks away, one of the kids is making a goofy face, etc. It's super common to composite multiple shots in order to get a good picture. Almost every wedding photo you see is edited this way.

    The zyns don't cut your mouth at all! It's basically a powder with nicotine in a cloth-like packet. The nicotine gets absorbed through your gums/mucous membrane. Dip was the OG method and it did have abrasives in it to make the nicotine get absorbed faster

    Doesn’t matter if it’s leaf or bud, the thing that makes you high is heating the thca to a certain temp to turn it into thc, if it isn’t heated to that point, it won’t become psychoactive for a person.

    as a BrAzILiaN listener it was really cool to hear maya talking about some of the folklore myths i grew up with hahaha but tbh i’ve never met anyone who believed in any of them, it’s just something that’s part of our culture. but i’ve also never been to the amazon forest, so i kinda get that some of the locals around there might take them more seriously.

    Blood vessels are close enough to the gums surface that nicotine products and other substances can get into the blood without the need for open cuts. SOME chewing tobacco pouches have some fiberglass to create micro cuts to allow the transfer quicker (there are also cigarettes with fiberglass filters, mostly menthol I believe) which also create micro cuts in the throat and maybe even the alveoli in our lungs in order to allow a quicker transfer of Nicotine.
    Nicotine Gum, for instance, has no fiberglass, no cuts, just the raised risk of diabetes due to Nicotine intake as well as slightly increased heart rates from the stimulant.
    In terms of the cocaine thing, from what I understand, you get like a tingly/numb mouth if you rub it on your gums and like a little wired but because there are many more blood vessels in the nose, when people snort it, it is a much stronger effect overall. I think people's faces still get a little tingly and numb even if they snort it, but it's more of their face, not the inside of their mouth.
    Also, I don't think eating a cannabis leaf really has any effect on someone, as typically it needs to be heated in order to release the THC Amino Acid. This is why edibles are made with an oil or butter that was heated with flower in them and then strained, as it's heated the THC releases into the oil/food vehicle, and then you strain it and use that. Additionally, when THC is consumed in this manner, the liver converts it to a chemical (via the digestive process) that converts THC to a chemical that is 5 times more psychoactive than THC, this is also why edibles tend to FUCK people up unless they start with something low like 5mg or lower.
    Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

    Zyns don't contain glass. It's an urban legend that in the old times swedish snus (of which nicotine pouches like zyn are a cleaner option) contained glass but it was actually salt. You just put in under your lip and the nicotine enters your circulation. Snus and nicotine pouches are quite popular in nordic countries like finland, where i'm from.
