Diving with THRESHER SHARKS in the Philippines /// RIP to my GoPro10 /// ep. 12 - Malapascua

- This was my favorite week so far! Swimming with thresher sharks has been a dream of mine for so long, I can't believe I actually get to ✅ this one off of my extremely long bucket list!
My friends and I traveled to the island Malapascua from Bohol. We took the 6am ferry from Bohol to Cebu City, then a 5 hour bus from Cebu City to Maya Port. From Maya Port we took a boat over to the tiny speck of an island called Malapascua.
TRAVEL TIP: When hopping from island to island in the Philippines, you will most likely not be able to buy ferry tickets and bus tickets online or in advance. You basically have to just show up early and hope there is room for you. It is very difficult to find bus and ferry schedules, so once you arrive, head to the office and ask how often they leave. In many cases they have ferries/busses leaving to different islands every few hours, but for some islands they only operate transportation once per week.
Malapascua is such a quaint little island, there is not very many options for food, but there are a few great places we ended up going to a few times! The market area is the hot spot where everyone goes. There are some restaurants with local food, and also some small food shops to buy fruits and the basics. Outside of the market, there are some more western style restaurants here and there, and some really great food at the scuba shop restaurants!
Our first full day in Malapascua we went on our thresher shark dive! We woke up at 4am, as our boat was leaving at 4:30am! Thresher sharks come to the cleaning stations only at sunrise, so we have to get an early start!
The dives were MAGICAL!!! And everything I ever hoped it to be! It's hard to tell exactly how many sharks we found, but we had about 20 sightings! This day has gone down in my books as one of my favorites!
We also went on an evening dive to find the mandarin fish! There are very few places in the world that you can see them, and they are famous for their beautiful colors and mating ritual which is like a dance and only occurs at sunset.
Lastly, SAD news! My GoPro10 flooded when we were out snorkeling. GoPro coverage won't ship to Asia, and I am not planning to head home until October! If anyone has any ideas of what I can do, PLEASE let me know! I feel like I have no good options in this situation!

Tubataha coral gardens in Palawan, Philippines is one of the best diving spots on the planet. The biodiversity of marine life and corals are undescribable. This was featured in Natgeo countless times. This is the "Mt Everest"for all diving enthusiasts.
This is the crown jewel of the Philippines!
Oh my gosh! That sounds incredible! I am immediately adding this to my bucket list!

Nice Thresher Sharks maybe they are dropping by to talk the Octopus😅 saying who are these guys diving 🤿 to see us.
😂😂 I always do this when I go dive, I make up little scenarios of what the marine life might be saying or if they are out running errands or if they’re at work… so I think you’re right 😂
Malapascua means bad Christmas. Spanish sailors sought refuge in this island centuries ago
Oh wow, I didn’t know this! Thank you for sharing!
I'm not sure if you are still in the Philippines. If you are still in the Philippines, you can try to bring your gopro to repair shops in the malls. A lot of malls have small repair shops which repair broken cellphones, laptops and cameras. They might be able to fix your damaged camera.
Thank you so much for this recommendation! I’m going to try to make it to a repair shop soon!

Big bummer about your GoPro10 - I feel your pain. But at least you got shots of all the amazing animals!
I’m leaving the US for Cebu in about 3 weeks. Would you like to me to bring your replacement GoPro 10?

Yeah I’ve found a few places that sell GoPros, but the problem is they aren’t exclusively a GoPro retail store, they are GoPro partners so they can’t do anything with my current GoPro 😔
Hey Clare, I just watched this video which was posted 9 days ago. Idk if u already resolved ur GoPro issue, but just in case, my wife and I are leaving the U.S. for the Philippines this April the 22nd. Let me know if we could be of help.
