- Holy ball skirt! I'm deboxing and reviewing Symphony in Chiffon Barbie doll from 1998 who was part of the Barbie Couture Collection.
Totally dying for all this marigold satin, wow! She is pure 90s couture extravaganza and I am so in love. The details of her exquisite little blouse are truly breathtaking paired with a mile long chiffon hooded cape which is the star of the ensemble. Embroidery, beading, tassels, bows, peplums, chiffon, silk shantung, satin, tulle, gold threading, and more! Opulence, darling!

Excellent review, as always! I've always loved this line of dolls - they are a reminder of how high Mattel's quality standards used to be! As to the shoes... they are exactly like the 'gem-studded' shoes found in the 'Pretty Treasures' accessories sets being sold at this time. We have a lot of those 'Pretty Treasures' sets, and yes, the shoes are indeed very costume. However, because of that, they are great for New Year's masquerades or Mardi Gras ensembles!

It's giving me hot spicy vibes and also pumpkins and pomegranates in a sort of tequila sunrise way...yummy whichever way you see it!
I love seeing you review all the clothes. I am forever lusting after these older dolls simply to get my hands on these wonderful pieces. I hope one day to have a comprehensive library of patterns for all these gorgeous clothes.

WOW, All the detailing in that doll and outfit and those shoes were such a surprise. I wanted this doll so bad but didn’t get because she needed a big space to displays that ballroom skirt. Thanks for reviewing this doll, I always wanted to know what she looked like!

Because of you I just got the AA version of her last week on Ebay and she is so stunning and gorgeous one of my favorite Barbie in my collection. Oh you have inspired me to get at least a total of 5 Barbie from the past on Ebay 🤣

This is the barbie that i grew up loving. I dont know where she is now. Watching this put tears in my eyes.
As a gay kid, this doll is everything. That big skirt, pedicoat and the chiffon cape.
Also there's something about the silhouette of the 90s doll shoes made me obsessed with barbie shoes.. It always makes me sad that i lost her =(

Loving the vivid coloring of her ensem and it was constructed very well. Her skirt and cape are my faves. I always wondered why the AA version never had the exact same face sculpt. The brown skin option was great, but in most cases I would prefer the face sculpt of the Caucasian doll. At any rate...thanks bunches for another fabulous review love!!💌
Ps. I hope the blemish vanishes asap, but you still look adorable.😘 And you were right about Poppy...my MD is so pretty! I was surprised at how much I like her.
Yea, I also wondered why the AA doll didn't get as much airtime as this doll. Shady! So glad to hear you're loving your PP. Seriously, she will become your new addiction. Just wait until you get a darker toned Poppy. OH MY GAWD.

I recently joined some Barbie FB groups to "start selling some of my dolls"😂 and someone posted this video. I watched it a couple of times and ended up buying her when a girl posted her for sale😵 you make me laugh so much when you start saying: I want to....but it's the same story....😂 You're so genuine in your excitement for Barbie!! The only doll I have from this collection is Portrait In Taffeta. I saw a major steal deal on eBay a few months ago, and I had to get her. She's really lovely, I remember wanting her back in the day, but I was focused on collecting Vintage at the time. Now that I have her, I think she's fab. I love her hobble skirt with large sweeping overskirt with its almost origami-like planes. The only thing I don't like is that she is sewn into her gown. Someday I might convert it to a zipper or an Integrity-style hook and thread loop closure.
Symphony in Chiffon is pretty too, I think I might stalk this one or the AA version on eBay and see if another steal deal falls in my lap. And you're right, the top of the ensemble is very much a Marie Antoinette look. Throw that jacket on top of a matching bright magenta silk shantung pannier-style skirt and you've got a pretty legit-looking 18th Century getup. I'm sure that had to be an intentional design choice, and I'm sure pairing it with a more 19th Century skirt silhouette was intentional as well, but I think I would have preferred a more historical look. I honestly love that jacket, and I love the color of the skirt, but for some reason I don't really love them together, probably because of the overall silhouette. The headband is also not doing it for me for some reason. I think if I did have this doll, I would be unable to keep myself from editing the look a bit.
I know one thing, a lot of these 90s dolls look ten times more fresh and lovely when they are deboxed. I think it's kind of a shame that so many of these dolls were collected originally as 'investments', and they just stayed in their boxes all these years, not really appreciated or admired for their beauty and craftsmanship. Mattel was killing it with regard to overall quality at that time.
I agree with you 100%. Collectors who kept these in their boxes are not getting 75% of the doll's beauty because most of their ensembles are tucked in the back and around the edges. I also agree that she has A LOT going on. I just submit to excessive nature and imagine that Monsieur Lacroix from the 90s would have loved her haha. xoxo

I've reviewed one of the Christian Dior dolls from the 90s and the new ODLR doll from a few years back. Both on my video feed. Considering an original Oscar from the 90s but my doll cabinets don't have a lot of room for those GOWNS haha

I wish they used dividers for the barbie doll boxes because if you ever want to put your doll back into the box there's ALWAYS a piece of plastic that you can't get into place. You also forget how the ribbons were tied etc.

Hi Suresh! Huge fan - can you do a video or provide some tips on how to navigate the gong show that is Mattel barbie? I want to purchase the "Sweater Barbie" and to try and navigate that website is horrid. As well there are a number of other items that maybe you can provide some information on - how to track down items such as the accessory packs, your tried and true doll dealers. Being new it can be so overwhelming not knowing what to do.

Last time I was at my local doll shop here in Chicago I believe this doll and Portrait in Taffeta were both there for less than $100. They were both still in their boxes although I can say the boxes themselves are in totally mint condition. The store is called Gigi’s Dolls and Sherry’s Bears in case anyone is interested.❤️
