- During her first week of kindergarten, Beth Usher had a seizure. As time passed, her seizures worsened. At the lowest point, Beth would have 100 seizures a day. Her family was frantic, searching for answers but coming up empty handed.
Yet in the chaos, there was a brief moment of relief each day. Miraculously, when Beth watched Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, she wouldn’t seize for the show’s duration.
Eventually, her family found an answer. Beth was suffering from a rare brain disease called Rasmussen’s encephalitis. The disease only affects one hemisphere of the brain, for Beth it was her left. After much consideration, they decided the only way to get relief for Beth would be to undergo a surgery to remove half Beth’s brain, performed by Doctor Ben Carson at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland.
As Beth faced the fight for her life, her mother reached out to her hero, Fred Rogers for an autographed picture. They had no idea the lengths he would go to provide true friendship to Beth.

Dr. Ben Carson and Mr. Rogers what a pair of guys!
Ben Carson and Fred Rogers, what a great team! Stay well Beth.
Mr. Rogers was no celebrity. He was an educator, an example, a hero! There is an extremely sharp contrast between what the world was like when he was alive and what it became after his death. The contrast between during Fred Rogers Years and Post Fred Rogers years is incredible. I am not referring to technolgy. I am referring to social construct. The decay level of society is horrific in such a short time. What will the planet be like 50 years PFR? 27 February 2023 will be 20 years PFR. Society is not doing very well.
Agreed 💯 percent, it's the fault of the young people 30 and under who don't care about the past, or about Mr. Rogers or how people used to be or anything good, because many people today do what they want to do instead of what they're supposed to do. And because of this plus all the other terrible things that are going on especially in the urban cities of America, it's only going to get worse till we destroy ourselves!!!!!
What an amazing story, make sure you bring the tissue. Fred Rogers was incredible man, I wish we could go back in time and meet him in person.
the impact one real person can make.

The surgery performed removed half her brain. It’s amazing she can reason and talk that well.
She had brain surgery and there are side effects. Just a heads up; you should be a bit more sensitive.
