It would be so awesome to have a retro teal livery plane in the Air New Zealand fleet. If you were to choose one to showcase in retro livery, would it be a flagship such as 787 or 777? Or a humble Dash 8 Q-300 'dashie' ?
Not really, the Teal looked outdated, it was the colour of 20th century Air NZ. Teal was chosen to symbolise the natural beauty of NZ, but NZ has changed since that decision was made, black has become a more prominent colour in NZ culture, it's also much more sharp, modern, strong and versatile than teal, it can be worked with more colours and more gradients hence why Air NZ manages to slot in pops of purple, blue, green or pink etc. Taking that and the changing climate into account teal would have become more random overtime, it also would not be in step with other Airlines who are opting for more broad dark tone colours to emphasise warmth, depth and a more modern aesthetic, and black fits that climate well because it's often associated with luxury, sophistication, power and confidence.

I actually went on one of the last of those. I was able to go into the cockpit. I think it was a teal. It was amazing to see.
