Modern Metal: Gets angry, goes lower
Classic Metal: Gets angry, goes faster
Jeremy Fenix tes, classic is more of high tones. :)
am I the only person that prefers the standard tuning? it sounds alot puncher and has alot more attack and sharpness than drop tuning in my opinion. dropping the tuning just makes sounds so weak, it lacks the same power and energy that the higher tunings have
@@nuclearllama7239 Exactly
David Lofthouse unless we’re talking about the standard tuning of 7+ strings and baritone guitars. They probably stil have a lot of punch with their naturally low tuning.
@@nuclearllama7239 i think D standard still has plenty punch and power, but that's the lowest i'd say you can go and still retain enough attack for it to work proper.
Modern metal just sounds more difficult for the drummer
Double action foot pedals, or two pedals.
If you listen closely they use a lot less closed hat cymbol, so they can ignore that peddle and use both for bass drum.
Connor Hill in my opinion using double action pedals or just using two pedals is an easy way out for double kicking. I'm not trying to say that everyone that uses those two alternatives are bad but I use a single peddle and can still double kick at a really solid pace.
Crazzzzzzzziesandus yeah I'm a modern metal drummer and its usually faster and almost random
Connor Hill I was never saying that rick Allen was bad at all and he is extremely good at drumming for having one arm and you brought him up for no reason but I am saying in my previous comment that it took me a couple of weeks to learn how to double kick on one single peddle and it allows me to do more complicated kick and high hat patterns. I tried the double peddle and all it did was restrict me to using less complicated high hat patterns especially if I wanted to double kick while playing a complicated high hat pattern.
Connor Hill plus I said this " I'm not trying to say that everyone who uses the those two alternatives are bad..."

But, I also like some modern stuff such as Bullet For My Valentine, Asking Alexandria, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, some Pantera, Seether, Tool, Trivium, and a few others. The one thing that turns me off a little bit from modern metal is the overuse of the bass drum.

fair enough this is the acceptable response for this stuff not all modern is shit
It is not the bass drum itself, in fact it is probably my favorite part of a drumset, but when a song has a continuous stream of unending pounding, so much so as to outpace literally every other instrument, it starts sounding more like an electrocardiogram that wants to buttfuck me angrily with heart disease.

Modern metal is more brutal. Both are good. \m/ ( . n . ) \m/
Since the distortion is higher in the modern, the structure of the harmony must be simpler (usualy, without thirds. Otherwise it could becoume a timbristic hell, and more noisy than it aready is). So yes, the classic timbristic caracteristics can hold more notes in both a vertical (harmonic) and in a horizontal (melodic)

that would be like comparing a fish to a bird. two totally different classes of creature.......

+FortOfBlankets Well, depends on which MDM Bands you mean. Finnish MDM Bands such as Kalmah, COB and Norther tend to use a lot of power metal in their music. So they´re not that different. But swedish bands on the other hand have hardly PM influence. So it depends on the bands itself.

Actually clsiical music is the prettiest, and there are elements in classical music that sound a lot like metal. If you listen to Vivaldi's Summer (Presto) you will immediately see the similarity. My two favorite genres are classical and prog metal, and there are a lot of similarites between both.
Ok so 0:44 is right up my alley! I love the riff and the distortion is perfect bravo 👏🏼 lol

Well, considering that black sabbath released the first widely accepted metal song, I would say yes, don't think you could get more classic than that.

Just because Djent has simple breakdowns doesn't mean that the guitarist can't play. Djent actually has some great and complicated riffs while Classic Metal bands like Judas priest and other bands have literally the simplest of riffs (Not all Classic bands mind you). The guitarists from Meshuggah are the most skilled when it comes to advanced Polyrythms. Plus a lot of people think that Djent is another sub-genre of Progressive Metal and if you've never heard Animals as leaders, you can't tell them that their bad.

I think most people who don't like modern metal just can't find any good modern metal. It's definitely out there though.
The problem is that when people say "modern Metal", they're usually talking -core bands, and let's be real, [insert whatever here]-core is a subgenre of Hardcore. They do miss out on the good modern Metal bands because of this.
There's also good core bands. I like both classic and modern. I like the ability to be open minded.
system of a down?
The problem is, when people say modern metal, they don't really mean modern metal. They mean the stuff that's just sort of been thrown together with guitars tuned so low they make a bass sound like a prepubescent child.
Not that you can't make something like that sound good though. Hell, put enough work in and you could probably make a dying cat sound good.
But yeah, modern metal as in actual modern metal does certainly have some good groups out there when you move away from the stuff that's just effortlessly thrown together. For example, groups like Alterbridge, Dorje, Babymetal and Trivium are pretty damn good.
Adrian Thorneycroft trivium is actually good though.
Gotta love your sweep technique

David Casez you rock bro! You know what's up ✌️
I find a lot of modern metal mostly just sounds like the same super-low growling muddy guitar with over-drummed backing. Infact, I feel sorry for bass players these days... what purpose do they even serve? Next to none. They're completely lost in a thick, muddy soup of Dropped tuning chug and double kick drums. Yes, dropped tuning sounds aggressive and heavy but you can't hear the individual parts that well... they're all so low pitched that they blend together (and not in a good way).
Honestly, I think the muddiness just kills how heavy a song feels. Stuff like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest still feels a lot heavier than most modern metal for that very reason.
Most classic metal just use the same overused pentatonic licks to make a solo and call it a day
2:13 Is there band/single like this?

It'll be like Miles Davis's "Bitches Brew" to his classic "Kind of Blue"... and that'll just about kill off the last shred of popular appeal the genre had. After that, it'll be nothing but rehashes of classic Black Sabbath/Iron Maiden/Metallica style stuff for an increasingly aging, shrinking, and out of touch audience...
