      am I the only person that prefers the standard tuning? it sounds alot puncher and has alot more attack and sharpness than drop tuning in my opinion. dropping the tuning just makes sounds so weak, it lacks the same power and energy that the higher tunings have

      Double action foot pedals, or two pedals.
      If you listen closely they use a lot less closed hat cymbol, so they can ignore that peddle and use both for bass drum.

    • @angrypenguin6673
      @angrypenguin6673 Před 7 lety +39

      Connor Hill in my opinion using double action pedals or just using two pedals is an easy way out for double kicking. I'm not trying to say that everyone that uses those two alternatives are bad but I use a single peddle and can still double kick at a really solid pace.

      @angrypenguin6673 Před 7 lety +12

      Connor Hill I was never saying that rick Allen was bad at all and he is extremely good at drumming for having one arm and you brought him up for no reason but I am saying in my previous comment that it took me a couple of weeks to learn how to double kick on one single peddle and it allows me to do more complicated kick and high hat patterns. I tried the double peddle and all it did was restrict me to using less complicated high hat patterns especially if I wanted to double kick while playing a complicated high hat pattern.

Djent actually has some great and complicated riffs while Classic Metal bands like Judas priest and other bands have literally the simplest of riffs (Not all Classic bands mind you). The guitarists from Meshuggah are the most skilled when it comes to advanced Polyrythms. Plus a lot of people think that Djent is another sub-genre of Progressive Metal and if you've never heard Animals as leaders, you can't tell them that their bad.

      The problem is that when people say "modern Metal", they're usually talking -core bands, and let's be real, [insert whatever here]-core is a subgenre of Hardcore. They do miss out on the good modern Metal bands because of this.

      @bioactivevirus Před 7 lety +16

      There's also good core bands. I like both classic and modern. I like the ability to be open minded.

      The problem is, when people say modern metal, they don't really mean modern metal. They mean the stuff that's just sort of been thrown together with guitars tuned so low they make a bass sound like a prepubescent child.
      Not that you can't make something like that sound good though. Hell, put enough work in and you could probably make a dying cat sound good.
      But yeah, modern metal as in actual modern metal does certainly have some good groups out there when you move away from the stuff that's just effortlessly thrown together. For example, groups like Alterbridge, Dorje, Babymetal and Trivium are pretty damn good.

    I find a lot of modern metal mostly just sounds like the same super-low growling muddy guitar with over-drummed backing. Infact, I feel sorry for bass players these days... what purpose do they even serve? Next to none. They're completely lost in a thick, muddy soup of Dropped tuning chug and double kick drums. Yes, dropped tuning sounds aggressive and heavy but you can't hear the individual parts that well... they're all so low pitched that they blend together (and not in a good way).

    • @kemanorel3110
      @kemanorel3110 Před 6 lety +6

      Honestly, I think the muddiness just kills how heavy a song feels. Stuff like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest still feels a lot heavier than most modern metal for that very reason.

      Most classic metal just use the same overused pentatonic licks to make a solo and call it a day

      It'll be like Miles Davis's "Bitches Brew" to his classic "Kind of Blue"... and that'll just about kill off the last shred of popular appeal the genre had. After that, it'll be nothing but rehashes of classic Black Sabbath/Iron Maiden/Metallica style stuff for an increasingly aging, shrinking, and out of touch audience...
