    I had this as a kid. It did not work any better 30 years ago. My memories are exactly what you experienced. Leaked everywhere, would never fill to completely cover the figure, and however long you left it the flesh would never set properly and just fall off when you tried to take him out. All it did was infuriate my mother when it made so much mess. So annoying, it promised so much!

    The powder is Alginate and it will definitely not set properly after 30 years. Would love to see a video with a fresh batch!

    I found this video after visiting family and them digging up a home movie from Christmas of '92 showing me getting this thing. Honestly I remember it working pretty well when it was new. Maybe after 30 years the binding agents in the powder just haven't aged well. I know some people are here saying it never worked but maybe I was lucky.
    Come to think of it, I *may* have thrown the mold into the fridge for a bit to help solidify it. I think that worked

    I still remember the smell of this as a kid… mine worked fine at the time, the end result was what they probably intended. While The best part was seeing the goop rise up, the end result was just basically a naked man… best toy I ever had!

    The powder is just alginate. The same stuff dentists use to make impressions of teeth. So it's easily sourced if you run out.

  • @samuraicollector2903

    I had this thing as a kid, it has been 30 years, probably the powder doesn’t work anymore. Even when my terminator toy was new, you push the liquid into the mold and some liquid pushed out, so it was impossible to get it perfect, there was some bubbles over the figure, also the face did not match the skin, you cut half the face to look half and half machíne and the eskeleton was more lower than the skin, but it really worked, looked like pink jelly over the endoskeleton. One day I left it like that, and the next day the jelly got dry and it shrinked and got broken because it gets smaller.
    I always thought maybe is better to use pink play doh, maybe inject the playdoh, and inject into the mold, or put directly into the mold, but probably you cannot keep on the endoskeleton for to many days, if it dries, would be very difficult to remove, some clay would stay in the small gaps of the figure.

      @andysmith1996 Před 10 měsíci

      When you left it for a day and the "skin" shrunk, are you saying it broke the skeleton underneath? I wouldn't have thought it was strong enough to do that.

  • @skyblue11685
    @skyblue11685 Před rokem +2

    Being a huge fan of the first 2 films I used to have one of these as a kid. It was fun, but there were problems:
    1) It was messy.
    2) the "bioflesh" would dry out after a short while.
    3) the figurines could not move their limbs.
    4) you could not get all of the flesh to cover the entire figurine most of the time due to a design flaw in the mold itself.
    5) The "bio flesh" was always cheaply made(even back then it was bad/cheap), so I am not surprised at the cheap quality of the "bioflesh".
    There are probably other problems but I can't think of any other problems atm.

    • @toyscavenger
      @toyscavenger  Před rokem +1

      Yeah also the figures are usally broken at the arm also because one arm is made to hold in the mould and never fit correctly. I was lucky with this one! Messy should be written on the box!

    They rereleased this for "Terminator: Salvation" and on Ashens channel he was able to get it to set. It may be because the "skin" was not as old or maybe he used more powder and less water.

    I remember this toy and to this day I regret not getting it! Can I ask if anyone knows the ingredients of the "skin" powder mix? Also can I make a suggestion, use Play Doh instead of the powder mix, I'm curious to see if the results will be better... or your vintage toy will go bust!

      @@toyscavenger There was this Play Doh toy where you could put a little man with holes in his head in a special chair and squeeze the play doh through to make it look like his hair was growing and then you as the barber would have to give him a hair cut, it always struck me as the same principle as this toy which is why it occurred to me. 🤔
