How many people started playing guitar because of this man?
Me, and I only started maybe 2 months ago.
i'm guilty
Him and Steve Jones.
Him, slash, angus, and kirk
Air guitar! 😂
His '78 solo STILL stands the test of time
Yep, just listened to it during the week. Favorite song is "Speedin' Back to My Baby". But the whole album is tops.
He crushed the other three...
The "test of time" isn't much of a test, though, as everything music-related has, generally speaking, been going downhill since.
I love how down-to-earth he can be, for a spaceman. :D
Nah, he’s down to earth because he is a plumber
Ace is the genuine rock star of Kiss. Ace pulled off the best 78 solo album because Gene & Paul always choked his songs off the Kiss albums. In a funny way Gene and Paul learned a cruel lesson there when their solo albums struggled to sell. Paul in his book totally avoided this little bit of Kiss history, it must grind on him to this day.
Im an Ace fan. But his solo album had NY Groove, which he didnt write. Otherwise it was on the same level as Paul's
KISStory*
@@rticle15 Rip It Out is the best original track from the Kiss solo albums
@@EKNYR i might agree with you on that. I didnt think there were any standout tracks on any of them. But if i had to pick the best original, may as well be Rip it Out.
Bought all of their solo albums on picture disk and Ace is the best out of the lot!
Im getting into ace all over again. He was my childhood guitar hero and I have alot of respect for him.I wish there were posters of him from 1975 I love his first space man suit with the high boots and that chest plate thing that looked Japanese from outer space totally my favorite costume of his.
I like that - "getting into Ace all over again" - I think Ace is getting into Ace all over again as well. You know, we all loved him back in the day, but even I, the ultimate Ace fan did not realize just what a really important part of Kiss he actually was. And I think for all his blowhard remarks, Gene kknew it too. Gene now bitches about Ace and his problems, but there was more of a reason than just money to deal with his issues. An astounding talent and one of the greatest guitarists of rock. And a great songwriter!!!!! Remeber how impressed YOU were with his solo record ;-)
It's 2017 and I too find myself getting into Ace all over again. He was my mystical space hero from about age eight to about age 12 ('73-'78 or so). I had their posters on my wall, & bought their first five albums or so. When I heard he left KISS, KISS was dead to me. DECADES later, in about Jan 2017, I happened upon his book in Barnes & Noble. Started reading & couldn't put it down, so I got it & brought it home. Looked him up on youtube, bought his '78 solo album, am listening to ALL his albums now, and am watching footage from his Feb & Mar South American tours, where he kicks ass, especially for a man about to turn 66! I was sad when I read about all the self-annihilation he went through, and so happy & relieved to see him come out alive, sober, & still rockin' in the end. I will NEVER spend time not paying attention to him again, because I consider him a national treasure. The character he created? A magical unicorn! His songs? Great rock & roll! His guitar work? Spellbinding. Legendary. His voice? My favorite in the band! His role in KISS? Totally underrated, & Gene & Paul made a mistake minimizing it, and pissing off devoted fans.
Me too... I rediscovere Ace about every 5 to 10 years. Long live the space man.
The late great Dimebag Darrell picked up a guitar because of him
Ace you are the man, I don't care what the dumb ass nay sayers say. You are the true Spaceman now and forever.
Great Person....Great guitarist....God love's him.
like him or hate him, Ace gives u str8ht up answers can u say the same when gene n paul talk? he even said of all the Kiss books out P Criss was the most accurate and he bashed ace so thats saying alot
Funny but Lydia says most of Peters book is made up !
There was a time when there was three versions of "Hide Your Heart" playing on the radio.
Robin Beck did it on her "breakout" record TROUBLE OR NOTHIN' in 1989, which was produced by Desmond Child.
There were more than three. Molly Hatchet also recorded it and that got a little air play.
The Kiss version eats Ace alive .
I wondered why he wasn’t on the album thank god this video gave me the answer love u ace
The Clarences love & support Ace and Ultimate Classic Rock!
Thee best NY accent!!! love ya ACE!
Psycho Circus was actually a pretty cool song.
DevilFish69 psycho circus sounds like Paul lifted riffs off of his 1978 solo album. Check out Love in Chains. It’s the same exact riff.

Interesting observation...I can hear in my mind the part you are referring to and I see the similarity, I doubt it was intentional though.
Except the phrasing, you're in the PSYYYYYYYY. Huh? a half of a word?

Ace is ACE!
He seems like someone you could walk up to and talk to like a normal person
Ace You Rock! Can't wait for another solo album and/or another Kiss reunion tour with you as 'you' (aka the one and only Spaceman). I still luv kiss but it's still not the same without you brotha! It's like eating pie without the 'Rockin' crust, it's sweet but just too mushy.
Ace always delivers tha goods.
The Ultimate New York Rocker!!! B-A-C-K ! In the New York Groove.....

ACE IS KISS
He’s a great musician
Ace is great, "I don't like wearing the makeup, it's a pain in the ass"...there you go.
Ace you were the shit man . God bless you.
Your still my spaceman
Ace was on more of Psycho Circus than he remembers...the track Into the Void, the amazing solo of "You wanted the best", vocals along with Peter,Gene and Paul on "U wanted the best", during Psycho sessions he also recorded "In Your Face" singing lead vocals and guitar and was b-side to special cd single of Psycho Circus. He also shares lead vocals on "Its My Life" with Gene recorded during Psycho Circus sessions. The single appears mastered on Kiss Box Set and it appears of Gene Simmons Vault 2018. Peter plays drums on Into the Void, sings vocals on "You Wanted the Best" with Ace,Gene and Paul and sings vocals on "Finally Found My Way". The reason Peter doesn't have a songwriting credit on circus album is because the songs he submitted were the ones that made up his eventual solo cd One For All. I purchased it because I support ALL members of Kiss past and present but if you've heard that album it's not the best stuff and certainly nothing as good as Finally Found My Way that Paul wrote for Peter with Peter's style in mind and I like it. As for not being invited to play more sessions it admittedly was the producer the late Bruce Fairburn that insisted Tommy play more of the guitar parts and Kevin Valentine the drums. In fairness Bruce was rejecting many of Gene and Paul's ideas too. I think the album sounds good and sonically has a good vibe.
Into the Void is great. Ace - Why did you not produce more songs with Kiss? Obviously highly talented as the best solo album out of the four. There should have been 2 or 3 Ace songs in every Kiss album
Hefty Alan technically there was.he just didnt start doing lead vocals till shock me in 77. parasite, cold gin, getaway etc were his songs but gene or peter did the vocals
jendel15 Very true but I would still like to have heard more Ace. When he did Shock Me I thought the roof was going lift off when Paul announced it. The screams were deafening and it was one of the highlights of the night. I would have liked more of that.
They were probably afraid one of his songs would become a hit, then not only would he be getting acknowledged/credit more but they might have to pay him residuals.
Good point . And Ace DID have the only radio " hit " of those solo Lps with " Back in The New York Groove " , KISS actually played it on the last original tour for Dynasty..I relished watching Gene have to sing backups .
What a pity with all the great Icons that have passed in the last year these guys cannot ever work it out. Kiss is on life support and Ace has had a great life because of that Pain in the arse make up. Without it he never would have ever been heard. So they all need each other and if the price was right??? Ace you would have to shed some pounds and really get you shit together and Paul would have to have some serious vocal help. Peter could not perform an entire gig and Gene ? Well he would fuck a goat for the $$$. Psycho was good album really some good tunes and outside production and it is far superior to Sonic and Monster which Kiss MK II say are All killer no filler but man they are not great. I yearn for the Reunion Tour as it was fantastic the original guys just taking the world by storm and putting a nail in the coffin of grunge and making rock fun again. The last few Kiss tours have been boring with all just going through the motions and same set list and same antics and same banter. Too scared to stray from the old tried and true safe method. They should have just did what the Stones do . Tour and record when they feel like it and really give it a blast when they do. But they would rather lose the war than admit to the mistake.
Well to be honest, without the makeup none of KISS would've ever been heard of. The makeup and their enormous stage show is what made them. Love or hate em, when they came out with all that you couldn't ignore them. Everyone at that time was like WTF? They took a gimmick and made it work and work well. Yeah today it's became a little stale and very predictable, but het still love KISS.
Ace is too cool for kiss
Finally kiss ist Not kiss without Ace.his 78 First solo Album ist the best kiss Album thats ist Not released under the kiss name.a true Rock/heavy Rock Classic.all Killers.no fillers.
Without Ace Frehley or Peter Criss, there is no KISS.
+Legally Resisting Tyranny Well actually there is. A lot of their 80's shit is awesome but today's KISS with Tommy and Eric is half a tribute band.
+Dude According to Gene and Paul, KISS will eventually become a full tribute band.
Yeah I heard, they are open to find replacements for themselves to keep the band going. Terrible idea. Sometimes it is best just to leave a legacy, not beat a dead horse.
+Dude Gene and Paul are going to ruin the legacy of kiss, due their own greed.
+Legally Resisting Tyranny THEY ALREADY HAVE...
Hello?the japanese Version of psycho Circus Had a Special Pop Up Gimmick Cover and more important the japanese only Bonus Track "İn Your Face".its a Good song.has Ace forgot it?No one Others Here knows?

I did it. Wouldn't recomend it. Maybe with beer but not 15%liquor
Ace is totally Kiss
I believe Ace's explanation of Psycho Circus. I'm sure he had something to do with the fact he wasn't there. He probably wasn't invited because his lawyers made it hard for him TOO be invited.
Kiss is Ace, Peter,Gene and Paul period. Anything else is just???
best plumber and trout player the rock world has ever known!
Ace got another raw deal yet again with Gene and Paul on Psycho Circus. Those guys fucked him over so many times. Should've listened to him because his solo albums since have all been better than anything KISS has put out since the Reunion.
Is it just me or has everybody all but forgotten about the Late Great ERIC CARR??? he saved KISS in the 80's too bad Paul and Gene are so delusional and full of themselves that they won't admit to that theory.
Eric’s first album was the Elder...
Not forgotten but The Carr family has asked that he not be dragged into the crap that has become a bitter feud.
Eric Carr saved them no doubt!! Put them back on a heavy track
wooop woooop
'Psycho Circus' is a great song!
it pisses me off how they always got fill in's to play for eric and ace heaps
I don't straight up believe everything Ace says. I've come to learn that he has quite an ego too (nothing wrong with that), but I believe the truth is probably a blend of his stories and those of Paul and Gene's.
Paul's Hide Your Heart is the best. period. It's a Paul song and naturally, he can vocally wail on it. But it was still cool (at the time) to hear Ace do it, because it was the closest thing we could have to a reunion kind of energy.
+taergehtsiram Yeah, as with most things, the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle.
Peter's book was very straightforward too.
i was wondering i've notice ace dosen't look the same i heard he was in a real bad car wreak along time ago when he had a porchs, his looks are different just wondering be safe ace my GOD be with you god bless🌠

Plus he is 65
Ace had a wreck back in 83, he has a song with it in it

Pictures have leaked of Ace drinking at a biker cookout. I love Ace, has been my favourite member of KISS and my main guitar hero, but he is a bald faced liar. I hate to admit it, but he's anything but sober. That's why he has had a few of the solo performances on Gene's Vault tour yanked from CZcams as he is clearly wasted in the one
@@tsbirthdeath I am willing to bet you aren't wrong. I personally find it hard to believe he's been sober for that long.

KISS, ... the WWE of Rock & Roll.
"Into the Void" is the best damn song on the "Psycho Circus" record. As is the case with many of Ace's songs. I swear, if Ace had entered the studio with these four previously unreleased songs (that weren't written yet) - "Satisfaction," "Feel Like Making Love," "Rock and Roll," and "Sweet Emotion" - Paul and Gene would've rejected them. Not because they weren't elite, masterful rock songs, but they couldn't handle being upstaged by Ace. Still feel "Hard Times" is the best song on "Dynasty." "Two Sides of the Coin" is the best song on "Unmasked." Ace's Kiss solo record is one of the "band's" 5 best albums.
The songs he offered for PC were rejected, but Ace isnt telling the whole truth in this interview. He also did "You make it hard for me", that eventually became "Foxy and Free" at Anomaly. What's more, the original demo is present on Anomaly Deluxe Edition,
Ace is right; his version of Hide Your Heart is better...
Both suck, but I prefer KISS' version.
David Bruce wayyyyyy better
If you're part of the band, why would ya have to 'be invited' to the studio?
ace and peter are real genuine guys , the other 2 seem a little too fake
I really don't see why some fans think Psycho Circus is not a "genuine" KISS album. Ace and Peter were often not present for the recording process for many of the records in the 70's. Peter had one vocal on Dynasty but no drumming duties. Ace only played guitar and sang on Rocket Ride on the back of Alive II. Peter was not on Unmasked at all. In truth the only time KISS were actually a four member band in the studio was from the debut record to Dressed to Kill. So Psycho Circus very much plays to same beat as all the others.
The difference is almost half the record SUCKS, whereas all the 70's records are great from start to finish with only a few rare exceptions.
Peter did do drums on the one track (Dirty Livin') on Dynasty. I don't know where you got that bit of info on him not doing drums on that track.
They were (locked out ) of that album . The others were they were lazy and wanted to party rather than do the work to get the party.
I kent gebyuo time your tue king
Yeah Ace is a big baby...and if you ever get a chance to meet him he is a real prick regardless of how nice he acts when paid to do interviews.
He seems completely harmless...weird. Maybe he just doesn't like people coming up to him all the time-not all have nice things to say I'm sure!
John Rapp How did you know him?
Sounds like bull shit to me.
They're all pricks.
Everyone is a prick or bitch from time to time. I'm sure even you can be.
More proof of who Gene and Paul really are.
How is that proof? Heresay at BEST...

When I was younger Ace was always my favorite KISS member and I followed his solo career after KISS.I still like him, but I lost a lot of respect for him for the way he has not really taken responsibility for past mistakes. His book was titled No Regrets, which should give you an idea of his mindset. In the book he talks about his reckless past (hopefully) behavior and instead of admitting that he was stupid for not thinking what kind of damage it could do to himself or others he just seems to laugh it off.He does seem to be sober these days ,so good for him.
parlowderick He does say his next book will be titled "Some Regrets" though! lol So maybe, like me, you'll give him another chance.

Ace is hilarious-Working w/ Gene & Paul sounds like a lot of fun,,.
Only problem with Ace's interpretation of what happened during the Psycho Circus sessions is Gene and Paul have never denied he was not part of most of the sessions, never have claimed it was because he was "absent" and have both gone on record stating it was Bruce Fairbairn's decision. The Fairbairn decision might be a cop out on their part to some degree, but unlike the story about the infamous card game Ace had to attend during the Destroyer sessions, or the Elder sessions where Ace was in Connecticut and KISS was in Toronto, neither Gene or Paul has accused Ace of simply "not being there" for the Psycho Circus sessions. Ace accuses Gene and Paul of trying to re-write history, but he seems to be taking stabs at it all over the place these days himself.
Be that as it may. However, if the Fairbain decision story is true it could be said a REAL producer would have found a way to make it work. Perhaps Fairbain didn't try hard enough or have the skills to get what he needed out of Ace & Peter. Bob Ezrin was able to do it on Destroyer.

You should have asked him why he keeps scratching his forehead... There's two nasty pre-bruises there. XD
Why there are so many cuts in that short Video ?
Think about it ...and why he dont Show his Eyes ? ......
He's an addict thats why, and that is the reason why he was fired in the first Place !
Glama Basic He was fired a couple of times. Paul and Gene are just acting polite by saying that he left for personal reasons in 1982 (or was it '83?). Then after the "Unplugged" stuff and then after (I mean, amidst) "Psycho Circus".
+Glama Basic ACE was never fired - he quit, twice. PETER was fired - twice! The first time Ace quit, Paul drove to his home to beg him not to quit. The 2nd time Ace quit was because he didn't want to go out again on another 'farewell' tour, which he thought would be dishonest to the fans. But he was still an alcoholic drug addict and very difficult to handle after 'Destroyer.' Criss just totally destroyed himself, and had to go.
+Glama Basic You don't have a clue, so shut up, knucklehead.
Glama You're an ignorant little bitch, and you don't know what you're talking about.
Hide your heart was also on a Molly Hatchet album at the same time.
Now hear This ? If the price was right ? Even Ace like the almighty Dollar not just the two Greedy Jews . But on the other topics , he loved & hated the make up but without he never would have been. His songwriting is better with the Kiss confines , and 78 solo album is his best solo work. Sad that on Psycho he and Peter were not involved all the way , but that was Paul mostly not Gene as Paul by that time was becoming a megalomaniac. Ace talking about it all come across better than how Paul does by sounding bitter! Sadly the legacy is tarnished and Thayer writing Ace themed songs on Sonic and Monster shows how he was attempting to emulate Ace and not bring his own (inner voice) to his own songs. The End Of The Road will be lambasted by many as it is half hearted forced farewell tour that should have been done ages ago but with the whole band bowing out.
Yeah, Ace is no different than Paul or Gene when it comes to doing pretty much whatever it takes get paid, just not necessarily for the same reasons. It's pretty clear from his Q&A appearances in the past year or so that he just wants to get through the event, collect his check, and go home. And Psycho Circus is proof that Paul and Gene hadn't changed, since it was falsely presented as a reunion album. And they talk like they were on top and were being generous by reuniting with Ace and Peter, when in fact KISS had once again lost its way (this time by playing grunge influenced music).
True on all here . Paul is the biggest issue in Kiss now and I think he has become somewhat delusional and Gene has noticed it as well. The Reunion Tour was a result of loss of direction and when they realised that the four real guys back together was much more powerful (profitable ) they jumped on it. Sure Ace & Peter thought they should get a biker slice than they got , but it was Gene & Paul who kept the band alive through the dark times. But for me nothing will ever top The Reunion Tour It still lingers in my mind with clarity to this day . But they are a joke now and when this tour falters , Ace will be back in the fold thats for sure!@@Supertron1

Goes to show what a narcissist Gene is that he would demand Ace remove a song from his album long after Ace was out of Kiss! I'm sure it was hell putting up with Gene's over-inflated ego when he was in the band, but to have to deal with it outside of that? I'm glad Ace told him to go pound sand!
Gene is the one who pushed Ace to sing in the first place and pushed him to contribute more songs... he is also taking ACE out on tour with him right now to help Ace financially. Gene has his flaws, but lets not always blame others for mistakes Ace has made. This kind of thing actually happens all the time, but usually it's agents and managers making the calls, not the guys themselves. Plus, Gene's side of the story is a bit different and honestly, we don't know WHAT to believe in the end. But Gene said he asked if he could hold off on it for a bit, out of professional courtesy since theirs was already done and mastered and shipping... not just throw it away. I'm a KISS fan, but these guys... just so much drama with Ace and Peter and honestly both Bruce Kulick and Tommy have played on more actual albums than Ace and BOTH Eric's have been drummers on more albums and for more years than Peter. Hell, Peter stopped being their drummer in many ways, clear back on Alive 2 with the new recordings. A mess.
Gene is more a control freak than a narcissist.
"Into the Void" was the only solid tune on that album....
The Ace bonus track "In Your Face" is a way better song than "Into The Void", in my opinion.
Both great.
You and Peter got left out of the album because your not getting writing credits they want all the money
Or just because Peter can't write a decent song and Ace is so lazy
He put on some weight...
Martin Sierra wonder what he'd look like with the makeup on now that he put on some weight he'll look horrible hopefully if he rejoins kiss he'll loose weight again
*lose. And he doesn't need KISS.
good questions.
I so wish Ace wouldve kept the makeup n mystique. I would love to see what costumes he wouldve created
I think gene wrote the lyrics to into the void ace
His hide your heart was better.
He only played on 1 song on Psycho Circus. Into The Void.
Vince niel from the crue
Your version of hide your heart was much better.
That n title track were the only good songs
Ace seems like a cool guy. He gets that he was a mess in the 70s and 80s. He was an important part of Kiss and I can understand the frustration he felt during the Elder and Unmasked. Too bad he didnt stick it out because Creatures was great and it could have gotten interesting with him in the 80s kiss
