He completely fingers who did it and how based on remembering who exactly was in the large crowd of people who heard the joke, without Paulie himself even having been at the event. Watching stuff like this back you realise that as despicable as he was the guy really was kind of a genius.

I think almost everyone nailed their character and this is why makes the show so successful, every character is different and well act so you wont feel bored watching it.
The gerbil line still gets me to this day even I know he's about to say it, the delivery of the whole thing is some of the best dialog they wrote for Ralph

Paulies mother could be the sweetest character in the entire show. No concern for the debauchery, her immediate and only concern was her sons health and making sure he got the care he needed. What a lady and a true mother, respect.
