    If I had my way Sykora would be an oiler until he retired
    an absolute beauty of a player and an even better person

    @yoovechkin So he gets a different flex. The certain length is a certain flex, you cut it down it loosens the flex, and the extension doesn't change the flex at all.

  • @braineroner
    @braineroner Před 13 lety

    @yoovechkin he does that to add weight to the top of the shaft to give it a more balanced feel.

  • @ryanisahockeynoob
    @ryanisahockeynoob Před 13 lety

    @yoovechkin it gives it more feel believe it or not. the vibrations travel through the extension much better than they do the normal shaft. also it does make it sturdier

    I miss these oliers.

  • @eceagles66
    @eceagles66 Před 13 lety

    He does it so he can have a custom grip on his stick. If you look closly it is shaved of a little bit. That is exactly what i do with my sticks except i make it narrow in the middle

  • @Kipperluongo
    @Kipperluongo Před 13 lety

    @yoovechkin not exactly sure but when i put an extention on my stick it makes it whippier, so maybe he cuts it to make it whippier?

    @AznxNija12 my extension keeps getting loose. what should I use to really keep them sitting tight for a long time?

  • @REWREW789
    @REWREW789 Před 13 lety

    The wood in the end, is common i heard in the pros, it stops the whole stick from vibrating when the puck hits it, and gets rid of some of the "tin feel" of the one-piece stick. Im not sure if this is 100% true.

  • @rbkhockey83
    @rbkhockey83 Před 13 lety

    @pgbruiser where the stick flexes, the lower it is, the quicker you can get shots off.

  • @31NST31NZ
    @31NST31NZ Před 13 lety

    Usually the extension is to dampen the vibrations. Wood doesn't vibrate as much.

  • @romfordicehockeyluke
    @romfordicehockeyluke Před 13 lety

    he plugs it to balance the weight of the head and the top of the shaft

  • @beckonband
    @beckonband Před 12 lety

    They charge $400-500 for top end sticks in Australia.
    An EQ10 or 2K stick here goes for $100.
    EQ5 Skates are $700 where as EQ50's don't even cost that must plus shipping.
    We get shafted for hockey gear in Australia.

  • @CrazyNoodles85
    @CrazyNoodles85 Před 15 lety

    because the wood plug is sanded down so he has a better grip

  • @russellblack
    @russellblack Před 15 lety

    I understand it that he says sometimes he goes 6 games without breaking one, sometimes he breaks 3 or 4 in a game. But over the course of a season it's close to 100.

  • @morgoonafeta
    @morgoonafeta Před 13 lety

    @yoovechkin because he wanted to have a smaller but end to have his feel on the stick if u look u can see that his but end is shaved down quite a bit

  • @devilsfan964

    @canufi well when Gretsky played only wooden sticks were available, im sure if he was playing now he would be using composite like everyone else

    @BadKidBlastid because it make the flex higher in the stick.

  • @honeybobkins

    Probably just makes the blade a bit closer to the ground or for a bit of a flatter feel, I guess.

    how can u curve a composite blade

  • @diskjockie818
    @diskjockie818 Před 10 lety

    bc it can give the stick more flex sometimes for when you shoot

  • @honeybobkins
    @honeybobkins Před 14 lety

    @yoovechkin Probably just to be able to file down the wood and make a better or more personalized grip to the stick

  • @Derthas88

    Can anybody plz tell me what tool he is using to actually curve the stick?
    He puts a bit of the blade into it and then bends the blade to the right curve.
    What is that tool, how do I get one?

    @thebomb667 um...no he cuts it and then adds a thinner butt end its not for flex its for his top hand grip he clearly likes a thinner grip on his stick if it was for flex he wouldnt of cut it down

  • @PiggyWaffle1YUM

    @canufi lol who can forget those awful aluminum sticks, a friend of mine had one it was heavier than any stick I've ever used. I believe Iafrate set that record with the wooden stick, I can just imagine what speed he would have reached if he had a composite, could you imagine Al MacInnis with one of those? lol but i agree i love wooden sticks but the modern materials and technology used to make the newer sticks is amazing.

    Hahaha that's funny. Pro stock sticks are different than sponsored retail sticks man. It's the composite mold that they make the pattern out of that can't be curved the way he wants so even his pro stocks have to be recurved like many many nhl'ers do.
