Gotta say..I'm in Cedar city this week visiting my daughter (1,800 mi from my home in MS ) So..I had to journey to the Fabrats shop today and get a T-shirt and hat. Paul was out unfortunately , but Shawn and Grandma Lolly couldn't have been nicer folks..allowed me to check out the Willys and generally get in the way for a bit...just great folks!
Back in the 80s growing up i Colorado my dad had 1956 wagon with a 430 Buick engine. I painted it blue with white spider web on the side paneles. We had a tire cover painted with his face on a mule, he called it the blue mule😂
Uncle Willy is appropriate and fits the vehicle perfectly. 😊

It's great to see how quickly you are able to turn work surfaces into temporary homes for every single thing that you touch. Unfortunately, those things are never where you look for them- like your tool boxes etc. That's PRO level chaos!

You should have a reunion episode with Randall, Ben, Hunter, and Sean. It would be good to see everyone and hear how they are doing. Maybe get everyone together and thrash on the Jeepster or something

Hi Paul and all. A good name might be "The Original". Being a Willys guy I know that the Willys Wagon is the first SUV 4x4. First one made to pop the family in and go into the wilderness. And since you are building an overlander this brand IS Willys Overland - So, to me, something like "THE Original" would be good-as it is just that.
BTW it is looking awesome. Thanks to all for being so nice when I dropped by a year ago.

Chad's fab has to be included in the name being a team effort.
I like Pac Rat but lose the "K" so it is PaC Rat, short for Paul and Chad Rat.

WILLIE JOHNSTON in honor of Medal of Honor to 11-Year-Old Willie Johnston Willie Johnston was a drummer during the Civil War, and he did just that.
Nowadays, there’s no way you could get away with joining up at age 11. But things were different in the late 1800s.
Willie’s father enlisted in the Union Army in 1861 when they were living in Vermont. Willie didn’t want to leave his father, so he begged to join with him. Somehow the commanding officer agreed, so off Willie went to join the other Army musicians in D Company of the 3rd Vermont Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
It was between June 25 and July 1, 1862 - dates known as the Seven Days Battles - that Willie earned his medal. These battles were part of Union Army Gen. George B. McClellan’s Peninsula Campaign, in which McClellan’s Army of the Potomac had tried to invade the Richmond, Virginia, area. But Confederate States Army Gen. Robert E. Lee’s troops drove them back, forcing the Union Army down the Virginia peninsula.
As the Union soldiers fled, many of them dropped their weapons and other equipment to lighten their loads as they retreated. This included the musicians.
When the troops finally got to safety, Willie was the only drummer in his division to get back with his drum in tow. As the men regrouped, Willie was recognized for that and was asked to play his drum for the whole division.
When President Abraham Lincoln heard about Willie’s bravery, he recommended the boy for the Medal of Honor, which had been created around the time of the Seven Days Battles.
On Sept. 16, 1863, Willie received the medal from War Secretary Edwin Stanton. He was 13 years old and remains the youngest person to ever earn the Medal of Honor.

Paul ,I remember when I was your age and my back would go out, I'm not sure if it will work ,but try and drink more water ,when it gets really hot outside you probably don't realize how much you sweat,I know it worked for me . I was told by an old timer the muscles constrict and need more moisture. definitely like " uncle Willy"
He's sweating out his salt. Just drinking water won't do it. Take salt tablets. The Mountain Dew and other soft drinks do NOT hydrate. Caffeine dehydrates. If you start getting leg cramps, you are seriously low on salt.
First off DON’T set your seats on fire this time! Now I like “the Willy’s rat lander” as a name. Uncle Willy reminded me of the country singer who’s always smoking stuff.
Hi Paul - Someone else might have already thrown this out but, an Overlander type vehicle can pull a "Trailer" with a pop-up tent/kitchen set-up. Then you don't have to throw the tent on the roof of the Willys.

First rule of being a good camera operator, you never argue with the Director..
Second rule is, you always have the camera rolling, because most of the good action happens, when you least expect it.
Third rule is, if you don't have enough material for the film editor to edit, the editor and everyone else won't have a job..

When I was about 6 or 7 (now 77), my dad had a Willis. It's well ventilated, mostly in the floorboard. It could not be driven in the winter time, the heater couldn't keep up the with the floor a/c. My feet weren't big enough to block the air or water. It was a rough ride but fun. I think my mom had something to do with it's fate. It was just gone at some point. Always wanted another.
I vote for Uncle Willy. It just fits. Keep up the great work guys. So much fun to watch, and I'm even learnin' some stuff!
A old connecting rod that has the big end big enough to go around the column works great for mounting. Alum or steel. Can cut, weld, tap other end for whatever is needed to fit vehicle.
Lots is going on with the Willy build it now has steering, the floor pan has been repaired {for the most part} and now it has good seats! AC will definitely be a plus for desert running and Chad will like it. What a treasure Grandma Lolly is the Paul and Jace battering is nice. I'd like to see this Willy fixed in the headliner also when you get through racing it and make it a going to town grocery getter for Michelle. Lol.

My old man had one back in the 70s and 80s it was a sand drag and hill climber truck before he purchased it. We took it to the drags and hill climb and took off the exhaust caps and at night the flames shot out going up the dunes. It was called the The Orange Crate, so maybe The White Crate

Getting them through sunny days and snowy winter days. Kids loved Willber, many a long nap in his backseat while on a family road trip. Well then ol Willber was sadly retired and put out to pasture. Until... the Fab RAT shop decided what better vehicle for a upcoming competition than Willber ! So yes folks, Willber is getting a new makeover and some much needed modernization..he is coming back kids stronger, faster and cooler than ever !! To make your patch fit like a glove. First cut and bend your patch slightly larger than the the area to be patched. Then trace the patch on to the original metal and cut that out and you'll have a perfect fit.

I love using 16 gauge, but 18 cuagr is easier to bend and shape, 18 is the thinnest I use.
I even use 18 gauge for body metal often .. makes welding easy!
Fitting all these complicated shapes is awesome work to me ! :)

My brother and I used to check our trap lines with the exact year of Willis it was crude but effective we had many a good time in that old beater and it was capable had more shifters comming up from the floor than you could deal with one handed in a hurry - its nice memories you are bringing back for me seeing that we jus lost him a bit back and I jus Wana wish youns luck with your build THANKS
The best thing about fabrication is once it does not work, you’re still fabricating until it does work.
If I'm not mistaken this is a overland type vehicle for this onx build .. you should call it the pack-rat... got to pack all your gear in it and wheel it

I'm rebuilding a 1980 J10 and I have to redo most of the cab floor. I need to mount the seats to new steel. I have no idea how to mark the holes now. Thanks kid! 😂
