Arijit is probably on of the most versatile singer in bollywood history... He has the classical Gulam Ali vibe in PHIR LE AYA DIL and has the modern hard core party vibe in SOORAJ DOOBA HAI and also has the sad vibe in TUM HI HOO... I just love this man and at the end of the day, after being such a big celebrity and a huge name, he is soo grounded and simple in his life style... Oooo u guys are great in what u r doing... He doesn't really have a genre, he is actually the most versatile singer out there. He does these sad songs that will make you cry your heart out, he can also do a lot of pop, rock and classical music. He is classically trained but very gifted in doing basically everything in music.
He can sing hindustani semi classical. He is also well suited for “Gazals”. He has a few hit pop songs in his repertoire. But he is best known for being the musical angel for people falling in or out of love. Passionate love songs and heartbreak songs are his best ones.
He's that one type of allrounder singer who can sing any genre. That's a great benefit of learning Classical music since childhood, which helped him. He started learning Classical music since Age of 3.

I've yet to find a genre where he isn't the master. Dude puts his whole soul and a bit more in to every song. I've heard his songs thousands of times yet I find something unique everytime.

Although there are similarities in the kind of songs Arijit appears in, I think they cover a diverse set of genres. If you look at his entire collection of songs, you could call it a combination of Hindustani, Sufi and rock, R&B and other contemporary influences I guess.

For anyone interested, I think the highest note of the performance is C#5 at 10:08 and lowest note is A2 at 7:49. What a range, any note above b4 in full chest voice is holy grail for baritone singers.

Arijit Singh is a traditional Indian playback singer who sings mostly for film. The thing about Indian films is that the music can vary so largely from jazz, folk, and Indian classical to pop, rock, and hip-hop. The style for a song can be based on the feeling it's trying to portray, or based on the theme of the film. The singers do not compose or produce the songs for the most part. This is done by the music directors. They then choose who they want to sing their song for the film. Arijit Singh being one of the most popular choices. Most of these singers are very versatile and can sing multiple genres. As far as this performance is concerned, it was a medley and all of the music from the original songs was slightly altered so that the performance felt more harmonious That's why the whole performance had the whole alt/indie feel.
