Sprouts for Chickens - Let's make it simple!

    When we got our chickens over 5 years ago, we knew we wanted to keep costs low, provide them a healthy and happy life style and good nutrition. Sprouting made a lot of sense, but the ways people described doing it seemed SO complex that it was a real turn off. Over the years we've found ways to distill it down into something easy to fold into our work flow and wanted to share this with you. Hope you find it helpful!

      It's an important reminder for all of us. I think we can get stuck on getting the right design dialed in before we start a project, and it's a real missed opportunity to just start and learn!

    i spilled a bunch of chicken feed at some point when i was a kid and remember being upset for being wasteful and clumsy. A couple years later that spot was growing a 2ft tall, unthinned, super dense variety of plants that somehow survived despite total neglect.
    i like your reverse-tractor method of containing and rotating access to the plants rather than containing the birds.

      @squange20 Před rokem +1

      Yes, this looks easy enough. And being in the ground, it won’t get mouldy like if fresh sprouts were left for a longer period. It’s also good for the soil in case the chickens don’t finish all of them. So all round a very good solution.

    While northerners can’t employ this year round (makes me want to return to my home state), I do sprout every day without rinsing and rinsing. A sunny window, some seeds, a tray and a spray bottle is all it takes. Plus, I like the idea of soaking one night and spreading their feed seed. I’m going to do that with my scratch mix which is just for them to keep busy in the cold months.

    Wow, I like your idea. I'm going to do for my chickens too so that they get good nutrition. Thank you.
