    Hi Tom. Catching up on your past videos. I was able to purchase a Cole planter this year at super cheap. Late model with practically zero usage. It is set up as a three point. No extra gears but 4-5 plates. I intend to increase the granddaughter’s garden 6 fold next year and the Cole will prove helpful. I love all your buildings and appreciate the guidance. Thank you.

      Thank You. My last Cole planter had a fabricated 3-point hitch on it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all with that planter

      @@LedgemereHeritageFarm Between rain showers today I rechecked the Cole planter. I have 4 unused plates plus one I in the planter. In addition I “found “ 3 additional gears, an unused 10 and 12 and 14 that may have been used. I did not check what is in it yet, hopefully an 11. With a set of instructions as well. Been on a buying spree, now need to get on a using spree.

    I have had one of the cole planters for about 30 years. It is a constant battle. Works great for green beans. Everything else just always has problems. You never ever put it down unless you are moving in my soil or it will plug up every time. Thanks for sharing.

    • @LedgemereHeritageFarm
      @LedgemereHeritageFarm  Před 2 lety +2

      I’ve had issues with it plugging in the drop tube as well. Very frustrating indeed. Unfortunately, by the time I work the bugs out every Spring, I probably could have just planted everything by hand. This is my second one and it doesn’t work as well as the other one I had. I had a chance to by a couple John Deere planter units and I honestly wish I’d bought those instead. Thank You for watching

    Just used my fathers this morning to plant corn, beans and pumpkins. Nice planters, he loved his and had bought and traded them for years. Couldn't find his seed plates, but was able to order the ones I needed. I'm sure I'll stumble upon them eventually. Thanks for the info.

    Excellent tutorial Tom! You said it right. When you're done using the planter or fertilizer hopper on the tractor, wash them out and clean them thoroughly. When they've dried, oil or grease them thoroughly otherwise the fertilizer residue with eat the metal like acid.

    • @LedgemereHeritageFarm
      @LedgemereHeritageFarm  Před 2 lety +2

      I’ve seen them afterwards. It’s like the salt spreaders we use in the winter. Some people use fertilizer spreaders for road salt and don’t wash them. I bought mine that way. 1 year old and frozen solid😵‍💫

      @@LedgemereHeritageFarm Thanks for the reply. I noticed the depth adjustment on the 12MX Planter and I just went down to the shop and looked at the old duplex. There aren't any depth adjusment skids on it and no holes/slots for one to be mounted. I think I can fabricate something out of some 1.5" right angle . I wonder how the old timers adjusted depth control?
