This is real old school psychic fighter pilot drumline shit right here!!!! Robbie Bucks (the Ditty before the Ditty existed), with the "Darls Bar" at the end, and the quest for the "Perfect 5-Stroke Roll", complete with a hearty "WE'RE OUTTA HERE!" This is legendary stuff- for guys my age or a little older, these lines were our heroes. This history is being lost every day. I'm so glad there are still these wonderful videos to give younger players some insight into the way the activity used to be, how it's changed, and more importantly, how the essence of the incomparable drum corps experience hasn't changed one bit- merely the technology.
G Bugles made all the difference, they were scoring in the 90s in June, and only got more sublime from there. One of the best the activity has ever seen.
I can never watch this Finals show and not get teary-eyed. So much talent, passion, melody, beauty, emotions etc... from the whole corps. You can feel it by watching it. I was there watching from the stands as a Suncoast Sound member. IMO, the stars were aligned for this show and it will always be my #1 DCI show. Malaguena was pretty epic but you shouldn't win a championship with half a show. This show was pretty flawless from beginning to end. Thanks to everybody who was part of this show.
@@Inspadavethank you. This whole notion that the Scouts played whole notes and ran into each other in the opener has gotten out of hand. BD fans can’t admit that their 88 show was built around the horn line and didn’t offer a whole lot more and it caught up with them in the end. Of course, the judges not being known beforehand may have helped. And we saw how long that lasted.....🙄
definitely one of my favorite musical performances ever, and my ageout year was 20 years later. they really set a high, nearly impossible standard, for playing with copious amounts of style and confidence. they swung like pretty much no other, and wayne downey's brass arrangements were unbelievably melodic and catchy back then too, while still being complex and challenging. 19:17 was insanely in tune, check that moment out.
Hi! I’m part of today’s youth! I would love to have marched this show. I’m becoming a director just for that very reason: to bring MARCHING and MUSIC back to the marching arts! Thank you! Sincerely NPHS graduating class of 2020.
This is the best small stadium drum corps show of all time. The drill fit the music perfectly and the show just flowed from one moment to the next. You can't tell because of the recording sound on this vid but this was a tremendous horn show. I will always believe the gray unis made them not visually effective in a large stadium which cost them a championship. They were undefeated all year until finals week.
Mario Fabilo playing the solo on Old Black Magic. He was a great horn player who was in the Sacramento Freelancers with me in 83, 84 , He also marched Sac in 81 and 85.
This was my first cassette tape experience hearing drum corps from my new assistant band director at a Tennessee country ass school. The first part with soloists and then the swell to the hit, I was a porcupine with chillbumps!!!
Great show! Wish someone could remake that famous snareline t-shirt that the guy in the pit is wearing. I've been trying to find one of those for years. I had my original one for a long time.
I aged out this year from BD. It was lots of hard work and hell of a lot of fun! Give anything to go just one more time!
My favorite BD show of all time! Pure power and refinement.
Did u age out at 35? Gollllly ALL these people look like they forged their birth certificates
One of BD’s hardest swinging music books ever!
Proof that IN TUNE was always louder than blastissimo. Top 3 horn line all-time (for me) to this day! Love those 2 valve Kanstul horns
Those are King bugles

They didn’t score above 90 until July 30th.

You are correct- They still were better than anyone else
Saw them live in Stockton in 88! This is one of the best shows of all time!

But what a half-of-a-show it was!!
@@johns3106 No argument there !
Madison did not win with "half a show". The whole thing was great.

i mean half the show is clipped on youtube but if you watch the first half, its still really great.
One of my favorite brass shows brilliant

Wish corps would play music like this again....
armynurseboy same, drum corps would be a lot better if they go back to their roots. That's just my opinion.
Do you honestly think kids today would still have an interest in drum corps if they still did what they did in the 80's?
BrothaNBlue - YES!!!
@@ThatIsJustCrazyTalk you obviously don't work with today's youth.

One of the greatest shows of all time.
Those “all meat” drum lines of the 80s were tough!

Ah yes, I remember watching this show live, 10:35 brings back some memories.
What an amzing year.... the corps was a beast

Terrific blast from the past. Loved that show. I really miss those years. Thanks for posting!
My favorite show ending of all time. Knocked you out of your chair the first time you saw it, then waited for it every time after.
Beautiful pure drum corps!
And on the 8th day God said, "I shall give thee 24 badass Sops!" LOL
You weren't kidding. I have a G mello and tried to play half the stuff these sops were and could not even get close.
BLUE MAGIC
Wow... looks like rehearsal gear hasn't changed for horn lines for at least 30 years.!
I'm not a colorguard expert but they add so much to the closer.
That hornline..... Jesus
Wow, the keyboards were so low! Ouch, that would hurt my back after playing for so long
God bless you for posting this!
ALL OF THESE FOLKS ARE 50ISH NOW
ish
And Legendary Gods
awesome!
Great show! Wish someone could remake that famous snareline t-shirt that the guy in the pit is wearing. I've been trying to find one of those for years. I had my original one for a long time.
Kevin Murray Mike Mcintosh Dave Walters Larry from the 83 Bridgemen ,,,,,allstar snareline
Dave Krepp too
Who is the Soprano soloist just after 8:10? Loved watching this guy through the years. I was in Scouts 84-89.
That's John Meehan. He's been teaching BD for decades and is the BD brass (co?) caption head and a DCI hall of famer.
run starts at 4:50
Larry Cohen is that you from Bridge-men snareline
Who's the Gentleman with the trumpet solo at 14.33-14.42 ish. Hes awsome!!! My fav
Tim Root. He is also in the quartet and nailed the double C at the end of the show.
That's my husband! :D
He also does that beautiful, soulful intro to " Since I Fell For You".
@@TracieRootbizacct Pardon my language, but your husband is cool as fuck
Does anyone else find it weird that they never show the conductor in the broadcast?
10:30 You can see Nelson Agregado's feet on the podium. Only 2 DMs then, not a whole section.
16:31
When drum corps was drum corps- not musical theater with props, amplifiers, electric keyboards, voiceovers and synthesizers. Booo!!!
R.I.P. Tom Float.
Was the "Curtain Call" piece at the end always in the show from the beginning of the season???
no
I concur at 15:03-15:07
