Story 1 annoyed me. Why in the world would you let a stranger into your home?
Right! Let alone let them walk through your house.
Could very well be fake. I feel like lots of these are written specifically for submission to these channels.
Presuming the story was told by a guy: young woman at his front door, kicked out by ex boyfriend, alone and needing to get warm…deep down, he probably saw this as a possible opportunity to get some.
The desire to be nice and not seem rude, even in absurd situations, is very strong with some people. It’s why people ignore their instincts in the first place. It sounded like it was written by a man, so I’m assuming he thought he’d be able to protect himself from her (although, if she’d had a gun and he didn’t, he would’ve been screwed).
In terms of letting her walk through his house, I think it was probably more shock than anything else. It probably happened really fast. This sounds like someone who isn’t very assertive, so he was probably letting it play out, before risking coming across as rude. I mean the poor guy’s first thought was, why is she going back outside? As soon as I heard she was heading for the back of the house, I knew she was letting people in. Some people don’t watch a lot of true crime and have good intentions but are just naive or make unusual decisions when put on the spot.
I watch a lot of true crime and horror movies and have often wondered what I’d do if a woman who appeared to be in real distress ever came banging on my door. I like to believe that I’d be more compassionate than the neighbors of Tommy Doyle that Laurie Strode pounded on the door of when running from Michael Myers, but I’ve also heard too many stories like these and while some may be fake, not all are. I’m a woman, btw, and I guess if I let someone in my house, I’d have to really believe they’re in danger and I own handguns so I’d keep one on me until help arrives. I wouldn’t let anyone in until the gun was on my person.
I’m also a recovering addict and while I’ve never robbed anyone, I know enough addicts (who are now in recovery, too) that have. When he said it was a girl who appeared to be in her early 20s, I figured she was an addict and the other people were addicts. And not just addicts, but addicts who are about to be dopesick. Attempting to rob someone in a snowstorm isn’t the norm, it’s an act of desperation. If you’ve ever been dopesick before, you know how desperate you are to not feel that way. I’m in no way condoning robbing anyone but Ive personally seen it happen. I had a manager at a restaurant I used to work at, that was into pills and about to be sick, and he stole cash that was turned in by servers. He later admitted it and got help but he said specifically that he was about to get sick and it made sense, he had just started his shift and had to be able to work and the only reason he’d steal and risk his job is if he was about to get violently ill. That’s the only reason that makes sense to me that people would commit a home invasion in a snowstorm. Having the homeowner present upped the ante in itself. Ps. I really did not mean for this to be so long…
I feel the same way! A lot of these true horror stories could be prevented if people would just trust their instinct. If something feels wrong, that is your gut. It’s part of your immune system, keeping you safe.
Story 1-Yes, they would have hurt the resident or worse. There is a big difference between a burglery, and home invasion with people still home. Very scary.
So many of these stories wouldn’t even happen if people stopped letting strangers into their houses.
Story 1 is exactly why more people need to consider answering the door with a weapon or firearm.

Exactly! That’s happened to me before and I told the man, in my case, to stay on the porch while I called 911. He of course wasn’t there when the police came. It’s an obvious trap.

story 4....brrrr.....so terrible having to have the "stranger danger" talk with your kids, but so necessary. You don't want your kids to be rude, but you surely don't want them talking to anyone. Trust your gut kids, and if it doesn't feel right get away as soon as you can! Thank heavens this boy stayed safe.

Story 1: If you get a bad feeling, go with it. This guy never should have let that girl in his house. As soon as she asked to come in, that should have been a red flag

Story 3: If you are being followed, never go home. Go to a police station or somewhere public and call the police

Ppl who rant about 1st story: it really depends where you're living.
Here in Finland it's normal to let ppl in your house when they're seeking for help.
I live middle of the woods and would help anyone coming to my door (and have helped), but I have also bandogs so anyone with bad intentions wouldn't take a risk with big guard dogs attacking them🤷♂️
The first story is one of the oldest trick in the book , I have seen people steal guard dogs and pit bulls using a female dog to lure the Male dog away so they can steal them

These stories are always written by classic redditor NPCs lol always a weird combination of timid and awkward "deer in headlights" reactions, dumb risk-unaware decisions combined with jumping at shadows in fear, and none of them own firearms. These people always seem like they would die of starvation in their own houses if they had to go without Netflix or Amazon prime for like 10 minutes.

Okay then stay outside and call someone or the cops. Unless you’re my friend or family, nobody comes inside.
Just tell them stay there and you will call the police if its legit they will except the help if not most likely they will run but never never let a stranger in your house

Yeah I felt a little bad for the guy in the first story when he actually thought she was going back outside. I think anyone who watches true crime or listens to these stories would know she’s not going out, she’s letting people in.

Good stories, well done! And the last story, it was definitely the neighbor & his kids trying to scare you because once you confronted him, the snowman was gone & no more incidents happened. Or the neighbor knew exactly who it was & told him to stop because you were starting to get upset & were probably going to call the police .👍✅🫶
