Ninh explains the Rules of Softball. I'm not sure why so many people requested this one given that it's about 90% similar to Baseball, but oh well. Hopefully some of you find this useful.

Hey Ninh, I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the comments section, so I wanted to raise an issue about base-stealing in softball. From my understanding it's quite a bit different than from baseball in that the baserunner MUST remain touching the base until the ball has left the pitcher's hand in softball, while in baseball, the baserunner is not obligated to remain touching the base (known as leading off when they leave the base) and may break for the next base whenever they so choose.
Believe it or not, those rules vary still depending on whether it's fast-pitch or slow pitch. Whilst they're both different to baseball, I felt that explaining these differences would confuse a complete beginner, and thus omitted that.
Just made it simple - that you can steal bases.
@@NinhLyUK rather that true there its easy to claim in fast pitch runnrs cannot leave before the pitcher releases the ball and slow pitch you have to check with you local leauge. i don't co-ed where they couldn't steal but everything else was normal other than i think got 5 fouls out....

I made the team abt 3 weeks ago and our first game is April 7th 🤦🏾♀️!! There’s still rubbish in my head about this sport but I’m trying to watch these videos and pay close attention when we practice after class. My coach is putting me in the outfield.

Oddly softball is closer to earlier (vintage) versions of US Baseball and to Irish Rounders and Welsh Baseball, than modern baseball. Like the underarm pitch, and the relaxed "lets have fun" atmosphere of the game.
The underarm pitching does change the dynamic a little bit. However, according to ESPN's Sports Science, elite softball pitchers and elite baseball pitchers - the ball gets to the batter at roughly the same time so it's not drastically different.
Lol competitive softball definitely does not really have a let's have fun feel
At one time, the fielding team would throw the ball at the runner to get him out.

Not really. It is less dense than a baseball. This constitutes to softer. It's still not a pillow. and due to the size difference and its maximum speed: easier to catch.

So this is how I’m understanding
So if your batter and you hit the ball you run as fast as you can till you get to a base and if you have enough time run to the next and if you don’t hit the ball the catcher chatches it from behind and you have to go again and if you miss 3 times your out and of you the thrower you have to throw the balk and if the girl hits it you have to wait till another person throws it back to you

I'd personally like to know what the main differences between baseball and softball are, besides the pitcher throwing the ball under arm, only 7 innings instead of 9, smaller field. Anything else? :-) Great video as always!
Originally, softball teams consisted of 10 players on a side. The 10th players position was just behind the infielder and before the outfielders.
my mom signed me up for a league and it’s my first year playing and my first practice is today and my first game is tuesday (today is sunday) and I’m just a little nervous because I don’t know anyone and I have no experience 🤣 wish me luck!

I know this is an old video, and probably someone has said this, but you didn't really explain the difference between a force out and a tag out. A force out can only be done when a runner *must* run to a particular base. For instance, if a runner's on first and the batter hits a single, the runner on first *must* run to second base, and the batter *must* run to first base (of course they can keep going after that if they're not forced out). During one of these scenarios, if a fielder is holding the ball and touches the base that the runner must go to, that runner is out. However, if a runner does not have to go to a particular base, the runner must be tagged out. So in the situation I described, if the runner from first makes it to second and keeps going to third, they would have to be tagged out because at that point the runner can go back to second or go to third.

First one: It's rare, but yes.
Second one: yes and it's more common than in baseball.
What do baserunners do? I really got no idea about this game.
Baserunners stay on bases trying to run through the remaining bases and reach home to score a run.
This might make more sense if you watch a couple of games.

That's the gamble!
If the ball is caught in the air, you MUST start from the base that you were stood on. You can try and run early, but if the ball is caught in the air, you MUST run back to the base you started at. This might result in the players throwing you out!

Does a runner have to be tagged by a defender who has the ball for them to be tagged?
Yes, the defender must have the ball and tag the runner for them to be tagged.
What about ground rule double?
Ground Rule Double - a ball is hit in play between the foul lines that then bounces over the fence. This prevents the fielding team to try and get an out. An automatic double is awarded to the batter.

To elaborate on the field size, compared to a baseball field, a softball field is 2/3 scale. Home to first is 90 feet in baseball and 60 feet in softball.

So I have some questions. Can you simplify tagging up? I thought if the ball is caught then the batter is automatically out? Also you say base runners must run from the base they are at but is that not always the case?
Also hitting the ball between the foul lines means you want to hit the ball between the baselines connecting 2nd and 3rd base right?
Yes, the batter is automatically out if the ball is caught in the air. But any baserunners who are standing on the bases MUST start from the base he's standing on before running.
Baserunners will try and leave the base early to try and get to the next base without being thrown out. Sometimes, this backfires spectacularly.
The lines between 1st and 3rd base ... anything between those is fair game.

A couple more things, if the fielding team gets the ball to the 2nd base then the person running to second base is out but what about the person running from 2nd to 3rd? Are they safe?
I’ve heard different things about when you can start running when you’re on the base, some say when the pitcher throws, others say when it’s been hit by the batter, could you clear that one up for me too?

@@Soki7000 If there are runners on first and second base and the ball is thrown to second to get the runner out then the runner advancing to third is still in play and can be thrown out. That type of play is called a Force Out. There is a rule that states when a hit is made the batter must leave the batter's box and run to first. There is another rule that states no base can be occupied by two runners. So the runner on first is "forced" to run to second hence the term force out
