How about doing the random starters but you pick your opponents team. And I mean you both see the set of random starters and the you pick from them for your opponent, could be fun to see each person have a bad team and what they do with it.

I personally understand being abke to choose evolution forms and what not. But i don't think you can normally change the type of giratina. It almost might be more interesting in these if you are stuck with the version of whatever legendary that actually showed up in the randomizer.

You should do a "choose our starters by only using their pokedex color category" which divides pokemon between the colors of red, blue, yellow, green, black, brown, purple, gray, white and pink, these categories can be pretty strange though like Brozor as green, or Druddigon as red, or Orthworm as pink, is that "gray" option an Iron Hands or a Misdreavus? Is the "purple" one an Eternatus or a Tsareena? The "brown" could be a Gimmighoul or a Volcanion, it could be pretty fun with numerous "WHAT DO YOU MEAN ROARING MOON IS GREEN!?" type moments
An idea we choose our Pokemon on guessing which Pokemon has the higher stat total and you guess right you get to pick the mon you want outta the three and pick their ability guess wrong and your opponent picks your mon and that mon gets randomized ability
