At 18 years old
Nicolette, who has finally settled down (in Kansas City), has no desire to become a singer. On the other hand, she accumulates
diplomas in psychology and sociology. Which leads her directly, three years later, to a job as a part-time secretary
(she spends the remaining half-time serving in a bar). Decided to end this ungracious situation, she takes the road again,
this time alone aboard the Greyhound leaving for California. And so it is in San Francisco that she will get a more fun job,
the organizers of the Golden State Country & Bluegrass Festival is just looking for an experienced secretary.
Confronted with a musical environment, Nicolette Larson then ventures to sing in private. Encouragement multiplying, it begins
o occur in various bars on the Bay, as a member of David Nichtern and the Nocturnes. Then, she agrees to perform the first part
of an Eric Andersen concert in Vancouver: "I played four songs: a Poco title, a blues,
a Jamaican ballad and a version of Silver Threads And Golden Needles. It was not terrible, but I did not panic too much. "
Shortly after, his friend, steel-guitarist Hank DeVito, introduced her to Emmylou Harris, who immediately hired her as
a backing vocalist. She then moved to L.A., where she collaborated with Hoyt Axton (Ringo Starr's favorite countryboy),
before discovering Commander Cody's western-swing galaxy and the Lost Planet Airmen: "Working with this group was instrumental.
As every night I was entitled to a whole song, people finally found me and appreciate me. "
Contract signed, Warner entrusts it to the hands of Ted Templeman, the producer of Doobie Brothers, and Bill Payne, a former
member of Little Feat. An association called to renew itself for three more albums, which will however never approach the success
of Nicolette.
In 1983, Nicolette Larson participated in the musical Pump Boys And Dinettes (she plays the role of Rhetta Cupp).
She gives up Warner Bros. for MCA. This is the time when Nashville keeps raising it. She was even voted "best new singer of
the year" in 1984 at the Awards even though she did not even have a country hit. She still plays with Steve Earle and Poco,
scores two albums for her new label, and returns to the charts with That's How You Know When Love's Right, a duet with Steve Wariner.
Comedy in the cinema. But oddly enough, she is the most active singer, appearing in concert alongside Jimmy Buffett, the Beach Boys
and Willie Nelson, or participating (a little later) in the Harvest Moon of her old friend Neil Young.
Meanwhile, Nicolette Larson has been a comedian; on television first in the soap opera Throb, then in cinema, in Twins, with Arnold
Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
In 1990, she had to marry drummer Russ Kunkel to whom she was going to give a daughter Elsie May. It was of course for her that
she recorded, in 1994, Sleep Baby Sleep, a collection of lullabies and children's songs, with the help of Linda Rondstadt and
Graham Nash. This will unfortunately be his last album. Admitted urgently to the UCLA Medical Center for liver problems,
Nicolette Larson died on December 16, 1997 of cerebral edema. She was 45 years old.

Tnx Bob for the tribute.I knew there was something very special about Nicolette since the very first time I heard this song back in 78. She had such great vocal control , audio tone and sounded just perfect with the melody line on this hit song. If you talk to those who worked with Nicolette , they will all tell you how sweet she was to work with and, to be around.She was humble and had a heart of gold.Everyone was cheering for her success.If you study her many video presentations you can see the smiles to her by her bandmates as they truly did love to be around Nicolette.And she would spend much time with her fans after a concert or presentation.She would sit and talk with them until they felt like one of the family.She always had time for everyone .She left us all way too early and those of us who knew her were always the better for it ! I grew up playing Trumpet, cornet and baritone from age 8 and will be age 73. I do have some musical background .And am a retired Teacher and Employment counselor. RIP Nicolette..we do love your cherished memories and professional work . Dana

Nicolette Larson and Valerie Carter might of been the most beautiful and talented women I have ever seen. I was born in 1951 in Los Angeles, and growing up in the 1960's and 1970's it was sometimes possible to actually see women with this level of beauty, at the ocean in Malibu, or at Nepenthe in Big Sur among many other places. At this point in my life it truly creates powerful emotions within to remember the beauty and the supreme gifts that these amazing women provided to all of us. Thank you Bob for sharing this video and brining back these profound feelings and memories!

Nicolette Larson (July 17, 1952 - December 16, 1997) was an American singer. She is perhaps best known for her work in the late 1970s with Neil Young and her 1978 hit single of Young's "Lotta Love", which hit No. 1 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart and No. 8 on the pop singles chart. It was followed by four more adult contemporary hits, two of which were also minor pop hits.
By 1985, she shifted her focus to country music, charting six times on the US country singles chart. Her only top-40 country hit was "That's How You Know When Love's Right", a duet with Steve Wariner. She died in 1997 of cerebral edema and liver failure.
