    henry those fishes looks gold to me! i pay $5 on a little can white albacore tuna here in canada and who knows how old those tuna really are in a can. fishes are man's best friend specially to gym rats like myself, so seeing all these and so cheap it's so unreal, the reasons i watch your channel btw. there are so many healthy fruits and veggies considered superfoods in the west that's very common in PI. btw seaweed pickled in coconut vinegar eaten for straight 7 days will 100% help get rid of these bad bacteria that lives in your body usually caused from eating all that meats, amazing! mallunggay is also called the tree of life in africa. it was credited as the plant that singlehandedly feds more sick and starving people more than any help/aid sent to them by all countries around the globe combine! in PI there are 1 or 2 mallunggay tree every household. how amazing is that!

      +LuvMyLilBabe yes, i had a mallunggay tree in my yard on bohol as well as lemon grass. i eat mangosteens when they are in season, great anti-oxidants. :)

    Cool video. With my love of catching and eating fish it almost seems like heaven there. I was going to ask if you could haggle with the price some on a slow day like Sunday but to my surprise most of the items in the main market seem to be marked.

    9:48 lolz...dangerous indeed. Yeah the bolo is an all around toll for farming, carpentry, cutting meat, as a weapon against small animals and for just about everything. My grandpa who was a farmer always carry a bolo in his side just like how police have side arms. But yes indeed kids get injured with the bolo all the time. My friend almost lost a finger while cutting bamboo to make a kite.

    Yup! That was the misses and I's mistake when wr first got here to the Phils over 2 and a half years ago. We did USA style and would go out and stock up on food good for 1 and a half to 2 weeks. BIG NO NO. Aint gonna fly here in the Phils. It doesnt matter how big your fridge is, you gotta litetally hit uo the market every 2 to 3 days maybe 4 days max. Stocking up is NOT advisable here. Things to go bad quickly here. You hit it right on the head again, Kuya Henry. :)

    • @Lifebeyondthesea
      @Lifebeyondthesea  Před 9 lety

      +TokTok Cali and then add in 'brownouts' where the fridge can't run all day, that doesn't help. ha! plus, going every 2-3 days is something lyn and i can do together. take a ride into town, get some lunch then hit up the merkado.. maybe grab some chicharones while we're there. :)

    Great look at the market ! I saw mentioned, on another video, the producer mentioned that the vegetables, which look great, should be avoided completely, because of the use of unhealthy fertilizers used in growing, including human waste. It was the first time that I have ever heard this mentioned. May I ask your thoughts?

    • @Lifebeyondthesea
      @Lifebeyondthesea  Před 6 lety

      you'd be surprised how prevalent human waste fertilizer is in american foods. do a search on youtube for a video by VICE. it's been going on for a long time in america.

    how does the smell compare to Manila? I live part-time between Toronto and Asias... spending alot of time in Manila (have a business there) Thailand and Vietnam. I'm thinking of relocating to Bocolod or Dumaguete from my Manila place! It seems nice in both places do you recommend 1 over the other?

    • @Lifebeyondthesea
      @Lifebeyondthesea  Před 7 lety

      pretty much every 'wet market' merkado is a bit humid and 'funky', just the nature of the situation. :) i've not been to bacolod (yet), but i've been in Dumaguete for 2 years now and i've really enjoyed the size of the city and things to do locally within 30 minutes.

    • @erinarmstrong1170
      @erinarmstrong1170 Před 7 lety

    ..............If you have a problem with bones in fish, ask them to fillet it for you. Might be a little more expensive but so what? Still eat it carefully but most bones will be gone. Try and stick to fish with a large center bone not the real bony fish.....................

      +mountaincat8 most of the items in this merkado are marked. but i have had it happen with unmarked items. the key to not being overcharged is to take a moment to mentally convert to dollars, euro, etc. and ask yourself if that's a fair price before buying.

      +richard none these fishes are caught and sold the same day. nobody buys frozen fish in the wet market in PI. from my experience fisherman do iced the fishes as soon as they are brought to the market but never frozen. i guess displaying it with constant ice would jack the prizes up tremendously. anyhow another PI secret is 99.9% of filipinos eat cooked fish. they do find raw fish disgusting, even vegetables are cooked only horses and goats eats raw veggies according to filipinos. lol
