The Day I Fell in Love with 28 Gauge

- I have become smitten with these little guns over the year for their beautiful lines and broad load range, but it was only when I shot this little gun at Hudson Farm in New Jersey that I fell head over heels for them.
I have a feeling this is going to be an expensive passion!
Enjoy!

This has very quickly become one of the very few channels I watch all of every video on despite them not all being relevant to me at all. It's always been a good channel but the last few years since you guys took the full plunge into CZcams and TGS Outdoors the content and it's quality really has been fantasic and we can tell! Loving the videos, the filming and the presenting guys. I might even sneak in a membership :)
28g has been my favorite bird cartridge for 25yrs. I loved shooting Hudson, beautiful grounds.
Almost 20 years for me now. Still go to my 20s once in a while too though.
I bought my wife a 28 gauge autoloader, which she loves. In fact, so do I and U find myself reaching for it over my own 12 ga. 28 gauge is so overlooked and underappreciated.
I have a 28 gauge Ithaca, built in the first quarter of 2010. My favorite uplands gun. First off sold in Tennessee then somehow emigrated to Ontario, Canada. Slightly edging out the 20 gauge as my #1 field gun.
I handled and swung that gun, yesterday. Beautiful gun, works great on quail from what I witnessed from the two guys shooting them. Half or a third of the weight of my Caesar Guerini and my K-80
I enjoy shooting my MX-8 and Marrochi Model 99 12 gauge clays guns, but I LOVE shooting my Browning Ultra XS O/U and CZ Ringneck 28 gauges at ANYTHING!
getting better with every episode, thank you, cheers.
Can’t tell you how great to see this video in my feed today. My favorite channel and host at my favorite place to shoot. Yes, I have to take a lesson to be able to shoot at this private club (or participate in one of their many charity events), but it is so worth it. Looking forward to attending their 100th anniversary event in June, where I’ll have the opportunity to try all the top shotguns _- hopefully the Longthornes as well. Thanks, as always, for the premium quality video, information, and entertainment!
Top class content - always “time well spent” watching TGS
I have recently purchased a Beretta A400 Xplor in 28 guage, I’m excited to go shoot it! Thank you for another great video Johnny, keep up the great work!
I absolutely love tgs videos. And i love hearing about new guns. Every video is amazing and I can't wait for the next one. Good job lads.
Wonderful video on the farm, the guns, the shooting, and the 28 gauge. I own two 28-gauge shotguns. My three daughters and my wife have learned how to shoot on the 28 gauge Beretta 0/U. It is a great gauge for dove and upland shooting. Perry Pappous, California, USA
Loved to meet Jonny Carter At Hudson Farms seriously one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met!
The first time I’ve ever heard anything remotely positive about New Jersey lol
What a stunning Longthorne 28 bore would love one . Great film by the way boys👊
Always amazing content!
Longthorne guns should come with the rolled edge trigger guard to make it a bit more "best gun" .
28 gauge is my favorite!!! There like lays potato chips. Can’t just have 1.
Bought a kofs 28b for my missus to learn with. I quickly stole it they are so good. Such a pity there’s no real non toxic at a reasonable price in the uK so short of reloading it’s damn tough to use on game.
Great time there. Just wish my 45 minute commute there from my hotel hadn't turned into 3 hours. Great video as always. Hopefully you have some footage of Andy crushing birds at Sandanona with the 28 Ti. He's saving his pennies for one.
I can confirm the 28 Ti is a work of art. I am smitten.
wow , that Longthorn was amazing
Love the 28. ❤
Great video and beautiful guns! What a fantastic sporting clays facility there in NJ!!!
Glad Longthorne are keeping the British world bearing engineering alive 👍
Great video, but Johnny is getting a pretty rarified glimpse of American hunting. I guess I’m jealous. I suppose I could afford it now, but there were decades of rough camps before. I’m learning what I missed.
Supreme!
Yeehaw! What a great episode. Sasha’s great camera work keeps improving!
The man is solid gold
This video is of course, the whole reason to sub to your channel in one place. Wonderful it is - and thanks for the upload.
Don’t shoot shotguns but always look forward to your series, and wow what a place you have just been in the US would love to visit such a place maybe one day.
Great video guys
28 Gauge Army! they are the best quail gun there is
Johnny I love this 28 bore Long Thorne gun and its nice to see you back in the States .
This Longthorne gun is a remarkable sweet looking gun. And with all said alot of people will want to buy this great quality of a gun Handling well in such terrain.Have you been to M&M's it's in NJ also.
Lovely video, lovely guns!
Really hope longthorne are looking after you. You really know how to sell their guns
Longthorne looking great 👍
Johnny you are one very lucky guy!!👍 Lovely 28 gauge bet you buy one soon..... Malc and Ann Lincs xx
Hudson farm is a beautiful place ,it is very unaffordable to most of your viewers. I have had work done there and it is a pricey shop. The gun room as you showed is a gem . There new showroom is being built and should be outstanding. Pricing is high as are fine guns everywhere. With out a drought it is the best collection for folks like me to get a glimpse at a best made British side by side.Should have made a side trip to Chicchis pizza in Bound Brook. The best pizza around.
Although i wanted to go back regardless, any local food recommendations are a magnet for Sash and I
Jonny, you might as well buy you a place over here and apply for that dual citizenship. We really want to see you shoot the big blasts over here more often!
Outstanding work in this video as always !!
Love my 28 OU but I think I might have to stick with a Browning.
Amen brother hunting america and shooting a 28 ga your well on your way you will buy a ford f150 next lol
enjoyed the video , what great guns 👋👍
Brilliant video as usual. Love longthorne guns. Sadly out of my means. One day maybe. Keep up the good work jonny and Sash. 🍻🍻👍👍
Thankyou 🙏
I keep waiting for American titanium 3D printing, you know you can do that now. I keep waiting for that to become the new barrels. I mean you could actually 3D print air pockets in it to keep it cool and light. Maybe that's how a lot of the gun industry might come back to America, because a lot of American companies, as you know make overseas.
Anyway, that's just something I've been wondering.
This place is way too fancy for me, it would be bad for my reputation to go there. I love that you went there in Goodwill clothing though haha
I really wish you could go into like a classic American hunting store, they just don't exist anymore. Bunch of old World war II vets sitting around drinking coffee usually made out of a enamel coffee pot. Pre 1964 Winchester Model 70 and Remington 700s. 1895 Winchester... Usually a pacific Northwest boot and some LL Bean boots. Maps tacked up on the wall, usually topographic. Kabar and case Scandinavian knives. A blaze orange hat with the store name on it, almost looked like they stamped it there with a rubber stamp. Military surplus field jackets, orange vest. Stories of the war, or of hunting, or old stories going back generations. It would tell you about a valley that they saw a giant deer in, ask them when it was they were only boy. They tell you about deer 37 points 7 ft. Spread, bigger than an elk. These old men, fusing folklore and the modern world. And all that's gone
I have a Remington 1100 28 gauge and I shoot some trap with it but mostly dove hunt with it
I grew up in NJ. Why anyone would beat their head against the wall to be a gun maker there is beyond me. All that aside, what a gorgeous club.
Love a 28 for trap!
I not know NJ has this and I’m from Dirty Jerz.
Everything is so clean and people dress nice. Maybe it was just for the video, but most shooting places I go to in the Midwest are pretty much all guys in pickup trucks who dress like farmers.
"quite an affordable rifle" 🤣 good one
Wery wery nice to se itrestin Guns 👍
For much 28ga the best
I always thought Jarrett built the best rifles
Can’t help but think of jeffery Dahmer with you in those glasses green shirt and chinos 😂😂😂
The Garden State
$28k for a 28g. Makes total sense 😅
I believe $28k is for barrels only
$5K being an affordable rifle is insane to me. British gun culture is interesting to me because you can see how much more of a rich man's pursuit it is there. Here in the US you turn 18 and go pick up a PSA ar15 and a holsun reddot maybe someone shows you how to zero it. I know this episode was shot in the US but this really isn't the experience of most American shoters.
You can buy an OK shotgun here in Britain for £200. I got a single barrel baikel for £50. It’s crap though lol
Yes. At 15 i was cut loose with a 65$ new marlin. Hunter safety training done & raised around steel items😃🎩
I have had the pleasure of shooting at Hudson Farm a few times. The amount of charitable revenue they are able to generate is staggering even if it is in an very anti- gun state such as New Jersey.
You get what you pay for awesome location 👌
It's better pattern than a .410 for rabbit hunting, but not as good as a 20 gauge.
"Boobies". Hahah sooo on point!
Just out of interest, can the barrels be anodised.?😊
Jfc £23,000 just for the barrels?!
Dear Jonny I am a Subscriber to your channel but how does one become a member. I watch on my mobile and can’t seem to find a membership link?
$25,000 for a set of barrels, I could buy my truck twice over for that or I could buy just about every gun on my current to get list (excluding machine guns and the Longthorne I do one day intend to add to the collection)
I bought my son a 28g last year to start him off with
Smart move. Glad you didn't fall for the old trap of buying a 410. Too much of an experts gun
I was a diehard 16ga guy until a very nice old German dude let me take a few shots with his 28ga at the trap range. It was like swinging a broomstick and follow up shots were too easy. Id probably have to get a divorce lawyer if I buy another gun but man……
How many separate trips has it been to US this past 12 months?
Not many at all
@@tgsoutdoors So, not enough!
The UK guns scene spells pomposity to me as do over and unders
I want to be you jesus thats an awesome firearm so well thought out but I’m poor as mentioned before… but one can always dream
Longthorne guns are fabulous and very desirable but TGS is becoming just advertising channel for Longthorne
Sorry another thing too , when is back from the brink coming back
" looking at what I can't afford." That's what I said when he mentioned 23K pounds for the gun.
Are 28 cartridges expensive? 20's are in comparison with 12's, but my guess is that's down to production numbers, as in the more you make of one type is cheaper it is? Sorry, my degree in Engineering took over..
Yes, 28ga and 410bore are about 20% more than 12ga and 20ga here in the US. At wholesale, 12ga and 20ga are identically priced for the same make and model loads.
You'r;e in my neck of the woods. I wish you'd told me you were around - I'd have hooked you up.
You are right about gun makers making the same guns for all markets you Brits at least get a gun case when you buy an expensive gun here in the US we get a Freaking cardboard box and no chokes crazy
Come on … a Longthorne is more like a fine Aston Martin not a Ferrari ;)
$28000. for set of barrels doesn't matter the shotgun is already out of my price range but even if I could afford it, it would never see the wilderness 🤣
Where are the markets for those rather vulgar Longthornes?
$6k entry level?
£23,000 for a second set of 28 gauge barrels to fit your 12 gauge Longthorn action? Not exactly a choice for everyman…..is it?
Not a choice for everyone, especially not myself, but that doesn’t mean I can’t want or appreciate them! I’ll likely end up with a significantly more accessible 28 in my armoury, but I will be happier if I can have one of there one day.
I really enjoy watching your videos. One gentle request however…. Please slow down! Moving and speaking very fast gets difficult to hear and understand you at times. Fine work otherwise.
6 grand is the affordable off the shelf gun ? You’re out of touch bud.
Lol nothing wrong with turkish shot guns
Ridiculous.
